  1. Show a little patience and wait 2 weeks for boxing day. Trust me, it will pay off in the end. I'd bet you anything the RF-82's will be a door crasher again, regardless of what that sales guy told you. The last 2 years they have been $399.99ea.
  2. See, I have been there done that and all I can say is I wouldn't want to go back. Some have it and love it, others are like me and have owned it and now own something better. Nobody here can make up your mind for you, only you can do that. I think most people here would agree that at the $250 price you listed it's a fair deal... but make no mistake about it, there are better subs out there and if it were me I would rather try and do it right the first time then find out down the road that it's just not cutting it. Upgradeitis is a costly disease.
  3. Yep.. We Canadians pay a premium for electronics. Most yankees are shocked when I tell them what some of our prices are. The problem with Emotiva, for us Canadians, is that if ever warranty service is needed then we are on the hook for shipping both ways and what ever duty, taxes, custom fees come into play as well. If you are able to get a good model that lasts a good many years then it's a great choice, but if you get a lemon then you might end up shelling out way more then you might have spent buying locally..a lot more! Klipsch are so efficient I doubt most living rooms even need an ext amp anyway.. For you being in a condo I have to be honest and say any external am is over kill and the money spent on one would be better off spent else where.. Like maybe a meet and greet dinner party for your neighbors so whenthey hear your new RF-82's they don't call the mounties..lol
  4. My opinion is this.. The Klipsch RW-12 is an ok sub. I ended up selling mine because I found it too boomy on the lower end. Of course room treatment and placement play a major role in how it will sound but I just couldn't get mine to lose that boomy sound. I prefer a tighter bass and the RW-12 couldn't provide this in my room. If you are thinking of upgrading to the Klipsch then I would put that $250 in a swear jar until you have enough for something a little better. Klipsch make amazing speakers but they wouldn't be my first choice for subwoofers.
  5. What's your opinion on Onkyo?.. I like what I see from a spec sheet stand point but I have to say, I'm a bit put off by a lot of the reliability issues I've come across. I wonder how much of it is user error or the fact that they sell more the the compitition.
  6. Will do, It will be sooner rather then later. I'm basically down to the Denon 3311 and the Onkyo 808. Being in Canada I pay a premium for electronics so I am just going to hold tight until boxing day and see what deals pop up.
  7. Marc.. I took a scan of my Future Shop receipt. PM me your email address and I will send it to you.
  8. Also forgot to mention that from what I read over at AVS Forum, the 991 is the consumer friendly version of the 3311.. the 3311 has pre-outs for adding an external amp down the road where the 991 does not. Also, if buying the 991 I would reccomend buying it from Costco if you have a card there. They offer a 90 day return window and a 2 yr warranty extension for no extra cost whereas FS only gives you 30 days and then you have to deal with the manufactureer if any problems come up after that 30 days. Hop that helps a lilltle... I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to another forum but you can find more info on the 991/3311 similarities/differences over at AVS Forum. Just look in the audio section under amps/receivers
  9. TheFactor, How much do your Emotiva's play in the sound? I mean, you mentioned your Pio was on the bright side and I am just wondering if the amps have something to do with that?... The reason I ask is I am also looking for a new receiver and Pio was one of my choices. Now that I have an actual Klipsch owner say that he found his Pio on the bright side has me looking more at the Denon 3311.
  10. 3 weeks ago I was in future shop during their VIP sale when the RF-82's were on for $499.99 each and managed to talk them down to a pair of the RF-82's for $699.99 + tax.. after the $7 BC environmental fee I was out the door at around $791 for the two RF-82's. I can't comment on the RF-82 vs RF-62 but for me the foot print size isn't that much bigger but the sound was so I opted for the RF-82's. I would seriously go in and haggle with them. Also keep in mind that boxing day is coming and last year the 82's were a door crasher for $399.99 each. I would hold of if you don't like to haggle and at least wait for our boxing day sales because with the new MKII's out I have a feeling those MKI"s that future shop is still selling will be slashed down to very good prices. Not sure if it would help but I would be more then willing to take a scan of my receipt and send it to you if you think taking it in would help you score my $699.99 pair price.
  11. WOW!!.. Those speakers are very nice.. Makes my RF-82's-RC-62 look like garbage..lol..ok, maybe not. You're a lucky guy
  12. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I actually contacted Klipsch directly and they were nice enough to help me out.
  13. I'm bored and was sitting here thinking if there was any way I could determine my speakers build/manufactured dates? RF-82 RC-62 RS-42 I tried to do all sorts of searches but all I could come up with were older models and nothing for the refrence series. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be cool. Mike
  14. Does that determine the actual power pr chnl? Example, the Pio VSX-32 has a 400w consumtion rating but claims 110 watts a chanl.
  15. I'm not so sure they would be sitting low. My PB12's are about 20 inches or so high and if I place the 61's ontop the tweeters would be about 3feet off the ground. When I'm sitting thats just about perfect. As far as placing somthing inbetween, would a simple cloth work or should I be looking at something a little thicker/solid?
  16. Recently moved and am looking at a bit of a space crunch.. What are some opinions on placing my RB61's mains ontop of my subs at the front stage? What I'm looking for is opinions on if there is any risk of damage to the 61's. I hope some will chime in and give their opinions. Mike
  17. I agree.. I have the now RB-61 mk1 system and the terminals on the *new mk2 look cheap to me.. The grills are not so bad but I def like the terminals on my 61's better
  18. Thanks for the replies. I figured I'd be ok but wanted to get a cpl other opinions. smokarz, my local shop is selling the TX-SR876 *NEW* for $899.99. Keep in mind that I am in Canada and we pay a premium here for electronics. This unit sold for $1999.99 + tax so needless to say this is a steal for me.
  19. Hello, A local Onkyo dealer is trying to clear out the last of their TX-SR876 receivers at a ridiculously low price and I'd like to buy one. I am worried that it might be too much power for my system. Would my system be safe with this much power? I only use my system for movies and TV. Hope I can get some input. Thanks
  20. Well, I decided to pick up the Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K. I live in Canada and got it for $399.99 + tax so that is a very good deal, helps that a friend of mine gave me his employee discount. For a mid range unit I am happy with the weight and build, feels very solid. Haven't had much time to go over all the settings yet but so far I'm happy. Put 300 and Batman Begins in my A35, both HD DVD, and listend to their True HD tracks. VERY NICE! If everything stays on track then Pioneer has a happy shopper here.
  21. Exactly why I bet you anything the reason the 1018 isn't THX certified has everything to do with Pioneer not wanting to fork over licensing fees. Obviously I don't know this for sure but I bet I'm not very far off. Either way, it's not like that is a deal breaker for me, I just found it strange that up until this years model the rest of the 10xx have been thx cert.
  22. Are you saying the 1018AH has the same amp?..if so then why isn't it THX certified?
  23. Specs aside, that is one fine looking unit! I would give anything for silver but unfortunately it looks as though they don't have that option for the NA version of the 1018. After looking at past models it also looks as though the 1018 isn't THX certified, I wonder if that is just financial reasons, not wanting to pay for the licensing rights in order to keep the profits higher? After reading over the online manual I also see that the power output when powering 7ch is actually 110w but I still think that would be more then enough for my small (but healthy) system, @29lbs the unit doesn't seem like a wimp. I'm only running 5.1 now but obviously when I get a receiver that can handle 7 it's only a matter of time before I make the jump.
