sorry I know that this post is a few days old, but it sounds like you might have had a dud, I had a sub12 for over a year and it was flawless, it did bottom out on occation, but that was because I was really pushing it hard. I hope you were able to replace it, and have good results. ~ross

not sure if it's really correct or not, but I was always told that the distance from wall = size of your ports, so a 4" port would be 4" from the wall. As for the subs, I am a big fan of dual subs.... but I would go for dual 12" ~ross

I personally have really good luck with the Integra line, not a whole lot of difference between Integra and Onkyo. I like it as it also has the preouts if you consider adding seperated down the line. I am planning on upgrading this summer to the 30.1 or 40.1 model. ~ross

yeah I would be interested in hearing what others say, not really sure I'll change anything because it does sound really good, they never bottom out or pop, they hit hard when they should and have a nice smooth sound when listening to music. ~ross

It was my understanding that you don't look for dead spots (nulls) but you look for smooth sounding bass? Maybe I'm wrong. Can others clarify? I was told to look for a dead spot so that it fills in, maybe the difference is because I am running two subs vs. one. I spent alot of time with my LRD (major klipsch dealer) as well as time on the phone with Rockford tech support to get the boxes just right. The one thing I was told not to do was place the subs facing each other as it will produce a cancelation effect. I don't know if they knew what they were telling me, but they have a pretty awsome room setup with dual subs, and I really enjoy the sound that mine produce, room filling, multi-dimensional bass. but then again I could have just been very lucky in the placement or the subs produce so much bass I can't tell if they should be moved or not......hmmm ~ross

I really agree with this, it took me several attemps to find the right placement for my subs, I have a big bay window built out in my room so it really throws off the acoustics of the room. I did the same as youthman says I put one of them in my chair turned it to listening volume and walked around the room untill I found a dead spot, placed the sub there and then again for the seconed sub. Now when listening to movies or music there is really no way you can tell where the bass is comming from, also I noticed that as I played my subs more that there was a difference in sound and had to adjust my amp settings a couple of times. ~ross

I felt the same way, I wanted to move some air around. It took some patience, but I found the amp (KA-1000-THX) on ebay for 500.00 and I was in the subs and materials for about 700.00, I built the enclosures myself, they are 15" rockford fosgate power T1's 4ohm, for the money hands down my best investment and yes they move some air. I was just never happy wih a self powered sub, JMO though... ~ross

Why not another pair of RF-62's for your back surrounds and use the bookshelves as your side surrounds? Just a thought. ~ross

I would suggest the RC-64, or the RC-62. I had front RF-82's with the RC-62 and it was a great sounding front stage, just never could swing the price of the RC-64. ~ross

Yep that's what I did, 3/8" rod if I remember right, worked really well, I found some plastic plugs to fill the holes on top as well. ~ross

Ok, so it seems that there is alot being discussed about the different sound treatments, I am interested in different types and styles as I am changing up my room, so let's see what your are doing or using. [] These were made with Lowes bought fiberglass, layer of dacron (batting) and covered with burlap, frame is 1/2"x3" 2' square. I hung them from the ceiling instead of mounting on the wall. I want to make some bass traps up in the corners, anyone done that yet? BTW this was when I had RF-82's and the picture is from my phone, sorry about the quality, need to take some better pictures [:$] ~ross

Good luck on the sub 12, it is a great sub, also I agree that it is more fun to shop around and find good deals, and if I decide to upgrade I don't always feel that I need to sell something first before I buy something else. ok, so I am in the process of changing up my room, but I thought I would share some of the pictures as I go. Here is a picture of the Subs I went with. I made the boxes myself as well as the cables to go from the amp to the subs, these are a 4ohm Vs. Klipsch 8ohm setup. I had to go through a breakin period of a day or so, but the first movie I watched with them was the Dark Night..... I don't think I quit grinning for about a week. ~ross

End result, I do miss them they were a awsome speaker!!

I haven't heard much of the synergy series speakers, I think that the C-2 is not the center of choice for the F-3's. Most of what I have read says that one should really use a C-3 center for those mains. It would IMO be undersized and not be able to keep up. Sounds like you are the way to great setup, find a deal on a sub and your set. ~ ross

I haven't had the oppertunity to hear a Velodyme myself either, I have heard lots of good praise on the forum though, really I think it will come down to what you can get for a good price. IMO can't go wrong with either sub. [Y] Good Luck ~ ross

what kind of space are you refereing to? I have owned just about every klipsch sub at one time or another (well alot of them at least), and here is what I would suggest, my room is 12x14 approx, I really liked the dual sub 10's, great overall sound for both movies and music, decided that I wanted more boom to my bass and went to a single sub 12, I bought used on CL and worked when I got it, but only lasted for about 3 months, I think it had some really hard times prior to my buying it. I then decided to buy a new RW-12D and really that rocked my room, great for both movies and music, I really liked the the ability to adjust settings. So in my location, a couple of sub 10's approx 400.00 on CL, the sub 12 I got for about 300.00 on CL, new RW-12D I think was 700.00 or so, IMHO any of these options would serve anyone well. I know there are a lot of good subs out there but have always been partial to Klipsch up untill recently. I decided to get the KA-1000-THX sub amp and dual Rockforf Fosgate T1 15" subs (4ohm setup) couple of custom tuned boxes and a heavy duty kidney belt, nothing I have heard comes close, all movies have a new perspective at that level of bass. ~ross

I agree with youthman, go 5.1 if you are a movie guy, me I am more of a music first than movie so I have a 7.1, most of the time when I watch a movie that I am excited about I will switch to a 5.1 for better effect. As for the sub, I have owned just about every sub except for the RT series, and for the money see if you can find a Sub12, I don't think they make them anymore but are still available, or if you can find one for a good deal a rw-12d will rock your house.
