  1. I inspected my Belles and found a real mess. One speaker original oil caps and the other had "SiderealKaps". I thought the SiderealKaps tested pretty good here until I tested one of the new Solens. Here is the 10uf SiderealKap being tested. Looks like .11 on ESR and 142 on Q. Certainly not terrible.

  2. Vegas odds on the field beating tiger this week: 4:1

Even after everything, He is still the favorite to get it done. I would prefer to see him win over his wife and family first. Most Americans have or will forgive him for his indiscretions and that's probably a good thing.

I'm wondering if Erin will be there if he does win it?

  3. I find the sound from a fully horn loaded speaker IE: KHorn, Belle, La Scala) is the best sounding type speaker I have ever heard. Some small percentage is about nostalgia too I guess, but there is no denying the awesome sound reproduction of these speakers. You see, I really believe my 35yr old speakers are superior! No wooden boats here.

  4. Used Bob Crites' general criteria of ESR for cap condition I believe the first cap is indeed a good one. Also the second cap having an ESR > .5 ohms is old and not so good. Searching and reading previous posts on this topic has been a huge help. My reading would point to Bob prefering the ESR test and AL K. seems to prefer Q. But I think Dennis hit it on the head when he said those both can indicate cap condition. (if I might paraphrase him on that).

  5. I found a TH2821B on Ebay which was previously discussed in this thread.

I purchased one of these meters and have found it to be a nice meter. I have tested a couple doz. capacitors with it using the 1Khz test freq. and found it to be very informative. It displays the information as ESR and Q in the resistance parameter. I tested several oil filled caps and every time the old stuff tested much higher in ESR (bad) and lower in Q (bad). I have pictured here a brand new oil filled cap. Indicates to me that a new oil cap can have pretty decent numbers with ESR at .0247 and q over 600.

  6. Just got in from a day on the Big G. yeah that's Lake Guntersville. Great day for fishing with full sun. Water temp a nice 60 deg. F. and just a slight breeze. We caught some smaller bass and I did manage to catch a 3lb catfish on a Rattlin Roe (crankbait) of all things. Main thing was that the boat ran good and there is nothing to "fix" once back home. Hmmm, when can I go BACK!

  7. Check your audio cable connections between turntable and amp/receiver. I had a bad RCA connector on a recently purchased TT. Replaced those and TT became quiet. When hum is present try wiggling the wires around. That might give you a clue as to the problem.
