  1. Anybody here interested in a classifieds post on the this BB? I'm so sick of checking Ebay, audioreview, etc... for used Klipsch. Seeing as how we are all a big happy family here, wouldn't it be nice peace of mind to trade each other our equipment! I would feel much more comfy purchasing a high dollar vintage Klipsch speaker from the forum. We could limit sales to USED equip only, and not allow those "ebay dealers" to participate with their unopenned UBID crap. That would also prevent competition with Klipsch's dealers since we would only be selling used stuff. Sound good? 3. What? No takers on this one. How about it BobG, TV. Let's talk about these old babies and compare them to what's available (or soon to be available) today. I dare you.... 6. Hey guys. I know the old stuff is far superior and more expensive than the new, but just how good is the SW15? How is it different from the SW15II? How would this sub compare to the highly talked about SVS subs, and the soon to be released Reference Klipsch subs? I may have found one for sale, and I want to know if I should go for it, and how much money would be a good deal to offer. Currently, I have the KSW12, and am very unimpressed for music. Looking for something more. Also, with the passive radiator, how close can you place these in the corner, or how close to a wall can you put it? That's a concern for me as well. ------------------ KG 5.5 (mains) KG 2.2v (center) KG 1 (rears) KSW-12 (sub) Denon AVR 681/1601 Toshiba SD-3109 DVD Kenwood LVD700 LD Player Sony CD changer Sony 27" Trinitron Sony PLX I

  8. Please see the post regaring center for 4.2. Personally, I like the KG 2.5. Perhaps you can go in on a pair when one becomes available with the guy looking for one on the other post. 9. Wow! I didn't realize there were so many on both sides of the spectrum here on this issue. Everything I've read points to keeping the center set to small, so you don't overwork the drivers for low bass. It's really a simple concept, if you want to be technically correct. 10. maxspivak, I'm not sure about the KG2. I know it's a very different speaker with a passive radiator, and a boxy design. Check and see if bucking magnets are available. It might work. If it were me, I would hold out for the 2.2 or 2.5. 11. Thanks for you input, guys. Here today, gone tomorrow is definitely a concern. There response to my emails is amazing (within minutes). It just seems so good to be true. I think I'll give it a try. The local Tweeter won't budge on MSRP, and they don't know what they are doing anyway. The salesman told me today that the RF-3 was top of the line, and that the RS3 were dipoles. Oh yea, and Klipsch aren't good for bass, and that all there speakers are made to be used with a sub, and not by themselves. Apparently this was an easier explanation for him, than realizing he had them hooked up all wrong, and they sounded terrible. I just looked at him and said "whatever". 12. Has anybody purchased anything from Acoustic Sound Design.com? Was wondering if this is a authorized dealer, or if anybody had any neg or pos experiences with them. 13. Gentlemen, In an effort to get my point and opinion across quickly, I may have confused some. Of course, in an ideal situation, a center channel would be the same as the fronts. However, most people can't do this for several reasons. A large 4.2 would seemingly block the view of most televisions when placed in the middle. The alternative is to place it upside-down or on it's side (on top of TV)in order to get tweeters aligned with mains. Upside down looks a bit odd, and any women in the house would surely squeal. On it's side, the tractrix horn array is not aligned properly, and will give more vertical than horizontal imaging distribution. The other problem is that you would have a difficult time finding a single 4.2 for sale. This may frustrate you if you aren't willing to get a dedicated center channel like the 2.2 or 2.5v. The solution to these problems has been to create center channels that can be placed on your TV for most people. If this is your need, then my recommendation for 2.5 / 2.2 remains. I don't think most people are really going to tell the difference between a 4.2 and 2.2 when used as a center, and set to "small" with most DVD and 5 channel stereo applications. I could be wrong, though. I haven't tried it. I think many people are finding out that their 2.2/5 speakers are able to sell for more $ lately if they are split-up. Prices for these are nearly the same as I've seen 3.2 and 4.2s go for on ebay lately. It seems that center channel application may be the culprit. Especially since they work so darn well. I can't even tell mine is there (musically, and for HT). Now, if you had the component parts of a 4.2, and wanted to build a custom cabinet, then that would be a cool idea. You could certainly create a very cool and awesome sounding center speaker! Would love to try something like that some-day. STL, Sounds like you found a great speaker. Awesome that it was shielded for ya! I spent $50 a piece to do that to my 5.5s. ------------------ KG 5.5 (mains) KG 2.2v (center) KG 1 (rears) KSW-12 (sub) Denon AVR 681/1601 Toshiba SD-3109 DVD Kenwood LD Player Sony CD changer Sony 27" Trinitron Sony PLX I
  14. Get the KG 2.2 or 2.5. Available as either shielded or not. You can always shield the not "v" series your self. Get a single one for yourself, or a pair (would be easier to find), and sell the one you don't need, or save for 6.1 rear center channel. I simply love the sound of these as centers. No need to get a big 'ol 4.2. 15. Was considering the purchase of an SVS 25-31 sub, but would like to demo it first. The hype is just too much to believe on these things. Anybody in the Chicago or NW suburbs got one they want to show off to me? 16. Here's the deal...My Dad wants a 5.1 HT setup after listening to my system. He's rather frugal, but wants the same sound and slam that I have. Prob is (other than frugal) is that his room is 5 times bigger than mine, so he will need a bigger sub than my KSW12. I was thinking about going with SVS. $400 is pretty cheap, considering I can hook up the CS line with an existing AMP that I have laying around not in use. It's an old Kenwood Stereo reciever 125x2. Sounds like a good idea to me. Anybody out there using the 25-31CS? Will it really kick the crap out of the KSW line, including the KSW-15? I don't think he can afford the new Ref subs I've been hearing about. Any opinions? Also, may be considering RB-5s or RF3s for the mains. Wasn't too impressed at the showroom with these, though. My KG 5.5s seem to be much better. 17. Without question...set that center to small. Don't even consider large. T-man
  18. Well...I guess this is the response I was anticipating, and am glad to hear it. It's nice to know you can still get great results from an "a-la-carte" receiver. No beans and rice for me please, just give me the burrito. My dad (who lives in ND, 900 miles away) had his first Klipsch experience last night, and was totally blown away. He wants what I got, and now! My mom thought it was really cool, too. He just bought 2 WEGA XBR 36 inchers, and is ready to maximize the experience. Problem is that he lives so far away, and it would be hard to help him find and set-up a system - especially sub set up. One room is like a shoebox, and the other is a massive and open square. Unfotunately he really HATES the audio store in the area which just happens to be a Klipsch dealer. The competitors don't sell Klipsch.
  19. This one is right up my alley! I have the KG 5.5s, and have found the ultimate solution. It's cheap, and it works! Get yourself a KG 2.2 or KG 2.5. Both are available as a dedicated center which is already shielded or just as a stereo speaker. They truly are an awesome match with the KG mains. T-man

Buylow, I'm glad you found a method that pleases you. I think room and speaker location characteristics are perhaps the most critial control parameter with these sub set-up issues. Yooz gots to try everything Your sub should not be "hot to the touch". Mine is a bit warm when it's in use, but not griddle hot. The "auto" position works very well with mine, and would recommend using it. Troy
  21. Greetings all (I hope Dougdrake is reading this), I guess with all you Klipsch users out there, I was hopeing for some enlightenment on the following issue: All else being equal, would one really notice an obvious difference between and high powered receiver and a lower powered one when using ultra-efficient Klipsch speakers (ie. 98-105 db/meter)? Case in point, I noticed Dougdrake has both a Denon AVR1601 and a 3300 at his disposal. Big price differences, big power differences, and a few other differences (like rear centers and pre-outs and such). For basic 5.1 HT and CD listening, would somebody really notice a difference between the sounds put out by these two receivers in the same room, with the same speakers? It seems like overkill to have more than 60 watt/chan with my KG 5.5s, but I may be missing something I'm not aware of. My old Sony STRD1011s had 125 watt/channel, and the bass output seemed much better. Something tells me that power rating isn't the issue here, though. I love the features and the PRICE (YES!) of my 1601/681 (Denon), and I don't need any more features for now (unless they made with adjust sub out frequencies), so am I still missing something by only having 60 w/c? I only get it to -15 to -10 MAX on movies and music anyway, and then it's too loud. Thanks, T-man
  22. So what's the problem? Sounds like you have the perfect rears for that main channel set-up. If you are looking for better use with pro-logic, and/or want a more "unlocalized" rear channel sound, you would go with the SS1s, but for the price, I would suggest keeping those 1.2s They are great speakers. I have a set of KG 1s that I use with my 5.5s, and I couldn't be happier. T-man

"If you build it, they will come." Oh yea, don't forget to keep us budget limited folks in mind, too. Like Denon's 60 w/ch stuff, let's get some low powered high-end stuff to use with our efficient Klipsch!! This message has been edited by t-man on 05-29-2001 at 05:56 PM

    ksw-12 help

buylow, When you remove that LFE or Sub cable (Which I think you should), you will notice that you will have to turn your subs volume up quite a bit to get the same level of bass. With both connections, I got a loud amp squealing at higher volumes, and the manual DOES say not to hook up this way. In order to get all your LFE and Bass, you NEED to set your fronts/mains to large, and set sub to none/off. If you aren't using speaker wire, and only the sub/LFE out, then you are correct in setting them to small. It doesn't move more sound to the sub, but rather moves less bass to your mains, which frees up your mains to handle the mids and highs. You have to choose one method or the other, and not both. What kind of receiver and speakers do you have? This may help us a bit here. Where is the sub? In a corner in proximity to the fronts? A wife that likes bass....cool (: T-man

Boa, You aren't entirely correct. As I understand it, LFE was created not for home use, but for theater use. Rather than requiring theaters to upgrade all their speakers to handle the low frequency effects bass that movie soundtracks were adding, they decided to decode all that low frequency bass effects, or LFE, into a sperate channel. That way, they could just upgrade their subs, and have dedicated speakers for this added oomph!. In a Klipsch situation, most of us have speakers which are capable of the "oomph" factor. (ask Horned. He hates this problem) We still like our subs, because it frees up the mains a bit from being stressed out. What I'm trying to say is that main speakers can handle LFE. However, most of us like to have a sub to take care of the lowest of lows, and so we tune our crossovers ackordingly. Just so happens most of the LFE falls into the realm of frequencies we prefer our mains to leave up to the sub. In the orginal intent of the .1 in the 5.1 systems, subs were needed because the smaller mains just couldn't handle the bass. T-man
