Yes,Speakers disconnected. I was searching about checking dc offset for the 555 the consensus seemed to be to test with no load so I didn't get any resistors The reason I was concerened is I just bought the amp I always pop the top and look for any physical signs of distress And I found the left channel fuses wrapped in foil .

been checking out the service manual and it says to set the bias to +- 16 mv so its amost double on the l ch and more than double on the left i guess i should have it fixed i've been reading that as long as its under 50mv i wont damage speakers but may be losing some sound quality maybe thats why it doesnt sound a good as my other 555s

the gfa 555 usually goes for about 250 to 300 you can get the pre for under 200 i've bought a cout of the 555's and absolutly love them some ppl tell you they can be a bit bright but thats not my experience is it the mk 1 or mk ii that will make a difference in price

picked up a dmm to check the offset gettiing readings of r ch - 36.8 l ch - 26.3 it's a cheap dmm testing voltage setting 200m it shouldnt have a - ? my nad with the pre amp problem reads 0.00 both channels what am i if anything doing wrong thanks ahead of time i know I'm posting alot of question but alot of you guys have been such a big help and have tons of knowledge i dont posses yet

i'm sure there are alot of ppl who are electronics savy who find it alright to do something like that for a quick fix or what ever i am not one of those people. imo the fuses are there for a reson to protect my equipment. the seller got back to me and tried to pass it off on somebody else, saying he bought the amp used and never opened it up. i find it hard to believe that a guy who spent so much time building thoses beutiful 3 way speakers and has the knowledge of electronics he does would just hook up a used amp and hope for the best ! I almost always inspect any used gear before plugging it in .I did not do it right away this time and could have paid dearly for it thank god nothing happened taking it to my local repair shop on monday they give free estimates and can hopefully tell me if the amps ok to use

now if he did change the bias could that account for the fact that this particular amp seems to run very cool compared to the other gfa 55s i've owned through out the years dont know a whole lot about the subject also he was using this amp to power the woofers on on a pair of tri-amped homade horned 3way speakers very nice looking wich would leave me to believe he has a pretty decent knowledge of electronics i would not be surprised if he messed with the amp

thanks so much alreay got the fuses. the caps look fine visually at least none are buldging or leaky was planning on replacing anyway gunna run back to radioshack and hopefully get this figured out i messaged the guy very politly aked him why he did this,still hasnt gotten back to me i can telll he only did it recently the foil wasnt old, but thats a hell of a thing to do to somebody thank god i looked been running it for about a week now

hey guys,I decieded to check out the inside of a recently purchased gfa 555 when much to my surprise i found two internal fuses wrapped in f'ing foil I know this isnt good I actually remeber macguyver doing the samething back in the day. nothing looks damaged to the eye. I can only assume he did it for one of two reasons it was constantly blowing fuses or he noticed it wasnt working before i picked it up and just did it so worked when i picked it up. if i replace these with the correct fuses will it be safe to at least try to hook my speakers up?

all speaker cable wires and what not are hooked up i've done everything i can think of with connections i want to get this thing going

yeah everyone i have talked to thinks its weired too. i've been online trying to figure out the fctory reset no such luck,will try holding down the power button already opened it found the preamp section no luck finding any fuses i would love to get this thing working cant find any schematics to let me know where i could find the fuse

hi i have a nad 7600 right channel isnt working,i figured a relay problem so disconected the jumpers and decided to try just the preamp section same problem. this thing sounds amazing with my adcom 555 blows my dads onkyo 705 im currently using out of the water even with just the one channel anbody have any ideas on what it cdould be and if it could be fixed at home. i've been through the manual got it balanced have all the right buttons pushed i also have a chance to get a adcom gtp 450 for 90 bucks which i really dont want to spend if i dont have to as i have no experience with that pre

ok came home from work and nobody was home so i started messing around with speaker placement and i did a factory reset on the onkyo. after moving and listening ,and some more moving and listening and so and so on i was getting really frustrarated and more convinced these speakers were not was i was hoping for. then i heard the soundstage start open up started getting excited after a little more experamentation with placement boom there it was i was streaming flac frank turner(great folk punk rock guy from england) "i still believe" my god it was fricken amazing the .swear to god it sounded like someone was in my living room strumming an acoustic guitar. it's still not exactly where i want but getting pretty damn close makes want to hear the originals now i really cant wait to hear them on that mcintosh set up! i realy cant believe how much of a difference moving them apart from each other made,they were allready 7-8 ft apart now may 10- 12 thanks for all the replies

i will be bringing them down there either monday or fri of next week hopefully they sound the way i was expecting with that combo if it's just the electronics i can live with it,knowing i will be able to eventually get the sound im looking for. if not i can always return or sell them and either get my old 63's or since i plan on mostly doing 2 ch may go some cornwalls or a older pair of khorns or lascalas. either way im sticking with klipsch

That Acurus A250 is a very nice amp. I heard one about 6 months ago and it surprised me. It has some serious capacitance in it too. The guy turned it off while playing some music and it kept playing and slowly dimmed down, pretty cool. my uncle uses an acurus i think the 250,thats there 250 wpc amp.he loves it he actually bought because he thought it had all the qualities of the adcom gfa 555 that he liked and then some

I wasnt expecting a big difference ,I did however expect to hear the sound i got from the 63's but richer and fuller I have a local music shop that wants to sell me a pre so they are going to let me bring my speakers into there shop and hook them up to a $12,000 mcintosh rig in there treated audio room i've always wanted do that anyway so i will hopefully get my answer there

when i say muddled the instuments kind of sound on top of each other there isnt any space between them,the imaging i got with the 63s it was like there was space between each instrument.like i could tell where everything was when it was recorded. it was like music in 3d, i guess would be the best way to put it i'm sorry if im not usiing the right terms.

onkyo 807 was a really good model in my eyes.they took a step back with 806. with the 807 they made it like the 805 and added networking and other upgrades. the 906 is another great model it has everthing you are going to need plus usb. i would check those out you can save loot buying used. you are never going to use 90 % of the shit they throw into these guys the only thing the new ones offer that may be of use is 3d compatability. i dont like sending my video through these anyway the 906 has a decent chip in it so does the 805 they also have really some decent pre/pros also if you have amps onkyo is the reciever i choose,to me there alot like klipsch upper models have a nice sound and you get the most bang for your buck plus they are really dependable the 806 was really bad was always over heating i loved my 807 sounded like the 906 1007 without alot of the extra junk they throw in there

will try that.I think maybe placement and onkyo may be the biggest culprets,since i cant find anyone so far with similar problems,the onkyo is my fathers he is just letting me use till i get a pre. problem with placement is i have to the my girl happy too.For me performance beats looks anyday.for her there just nice pieces of furniture

no its not grainy,the soundstage of my 63's was amazing like being in the studio as music was being recorded.Not getting that with the 7's ,the sound is just kind of muddled.i loved the the 555 with the 63s the difference between amp and recievers was beyond night and day.The sound was crisp and clean without being harsh or tinny and again the sound stage was just amazing

ha i know she got an amazing deal too, cheapest i've heard so far they were slightly damaged though r&l didnt take good care in the delivery both grills were smashed to pieces .which damaged the top of the speakers slightly not really an issue to me especially with the price i got em for. mike from asd is replacing right away

Also,I know the ps3 isnt the best but had used in my other system and had better results. looking into adcom preamp/tuner gtp 450 can get one on the cheap or maybe that emotiva dac/pre emotiva has it on sale i find it hard to believe klipsch went backwards with this speaker i do find it funny there isnt any professional reviews though. i guess i could always sell and get the 63's back or may some used cornwals 2nd or 3rd gen i really dont want to. i do like the richness of the rf 7 ii the 63's were lacking somtimes sounded thin to me

hello everyone,a couple weeks ago i was in the market for some new speakers was looking at rf 83s because i had owned the 63s and was floored by the sound.just when i was ready to purchase some 83s from another member when one of my best friends died suddenly.I had to travel and ended up spending much of my money. It came to much of a surprise when a new pair of rf 7 ii showed up at my door i had showed my girlfriend a post from jasonj on the price he got them for. she got em for me guess she felt bad. boy was i excited to hook them up. boy was i dissapointed when i heard them. i cant believe its the speakers,not yet at least. whats different about my rig. onkyo 705 had 807 amp gfa 555 same model of amp i had previously with 63's,just a different one streaming flac to ps3,display went on my cd player placement of speakers problems,mainly soundstage ,imaging is absent! sound is muddled,mids arent bad though,bass is nice,dont seem as crisp and clean as 63's. i'm hoping it's the onkyo/placement? could there be that much of a difference between the onkyo models havent been able to find to much on the diff other than specs anybody else having the same issuses? please let me know.

thats awesome,just what i wanted to hear.if i have to get it worked on its no big deal i got it for free.i had to sell my old set up onkyo 906 and a couple of adcom 555s which made my 63s sound amazing.I know some people dont like either of those with klipsch, but they worked great for me.even the 63s being driven by the onkyo alone sounded great (not schrill in the slightest) when i hooked those adcoms the 63s came to life.I'm happy i wont have to spend the money on new amps and recievers.i'm good with 2ch stereo for the moment.i'll keep my eye out for the 2600 amp, maybe i can pick one up for cheap if i like the 7600 pe.i got a nad cd player too which sounds way better than my ps3 and 360 might as well make it a complete set. thanks for the info.
