  1. I think you will like it, let us know what you think! jeff
  2. Without a doubt it is better. The I-20 has its own 24-bit 192 KHz DAC built into the base. It has L-R analogue outputs in the back to go to your pre-amp. As I understand it, it takes the raw digital data from your Ipod, Iphone & processes it through the built in DAC in its base. I also docked the wifes Ipad 2 in it and stremed Pandora for a few hours. Sound was way better than it usually is coming from the head phone jack. I found mine on Amazon.com. Several suppliers, mine came out of GA, got here in three days. Total was under $100.00. I'm very happy with the unit. Jeff
  3. Just got my I-20 last night. I really like this, makes my IPhone sound great. The on board DAC does a good job, it's well worth the $94.00 I paid for it & it works with our iPad as well. Pandora sounded much better hooked up through the Pure than it did coming from the headphone jack to my BBX. Anyone else using this system?
  4. Craig, I'll pull the case & check it when I can slow down enough. Thanks for the suggestion!
  5. I'm gonna give this a try this weekend. Thanks
  6. Contacted Mark via email, went through a few steps to check the pre, everything checked out. Pulled every input from the BBX, plugged them back in, one by one. Turned out hum was coming from turn table. It's strange, P1 where it was connected hummed without the phono being turned on. Moved the phono to P2 and hooked it back up, all is now well. I really don't understand it. Well it was great getting help from Mark & I'm happy all is well in BBX land.
  7. Have not tried that yet, but I will when things slow down.
  8. Just noticed a pronounced hum in my set up. Volume up or down, no matter the source that is selected. Turn off the Pre & it is gone. First time I noticed it was when I hooked up my turntable. I unhooked the TT ground and it seemed to go away. Today it is louder than ever and not only on the phono selection. I still have the phono ground unhooked. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff
  9. Great to hear, have fun, let us know what you think when you get the BBX back in the line up!
  10. Can't speak about the Klipschorns, but my Latino ST120 paired with my JM Blueberry ex / cream & Cornwall I's sounds great. I had it set up with a Audio Dynamics B-200 SS amp before getting the ST120. It sounded real sweet, but not as sweet as the tubes. Just my $.02 Jeff
  11. I ran my Carver C-11 with my Latino ST-120 through my Cornwalls. Sounded good, just moved it to the bedroom system since I got my Blueberry extreme.
  12. Yes, it's old, found at an estate sale a year or so ago. Brought it home and tried in my bedroom system, sounded better than I expected. I then brought it down to my main system and replaced a much newer Sony cd player and it sounded better that that. So after reading a little about it, I was just trying to find out if it's worth updating or if anyone on the forum has hot-roded one of these. Heck, it may already be tweaked.......
  13. I currently have a Magnavox 650 cd player in my system. It plays great and has a very natural, uncolored sound. I have read that is a very modifiable player. Has anyone had any experience with modifying one of these? What type of modifications can be done to it and are they woth doing? Is there a Magnavox guru out there that knows all the tricks? Thanks, Jeff
  14. Jay's system sounds incredible! I had the pleasure of listening to "Little Hatch" from his Tape Project collection.......... pure, clean Nirvana!
  15. Jay the amp came with a 5AR4 Chinese rectifier. One day the main fuse popped. I replaced it and in a while it popped again. I called Craig at NOS Valves and we talked about it. He said that this being a ST120 it was pushing the 5AR4 to its limits and we also talked about the Weber copper cap. I also talked to Bob Latino and he said he really liked this amp with the SS recitier. I had two new ruby 5AR4's and ran one of them for about a month or two and then it went out. I had a 5U4GA that was an old tube and I called Bob and asked him if I could use it. He explained the difference to me and I put it in and re-biased everything. Had to crank up the bias on each of the KT88 power tubes. The sound difference was not all that noticeable if any, probably more in my head, but sounded a tad bit warmer with the 5U4GA. I ran it like this till the Webber came in and then installed the Webber, re-biased and have had the copper cap in since then. No real notice in sound difference except maybe a little more push in the bass notes. I think the design of this amp pushes a single tube rectifier to its limits. This amp could use two of the 5AR4's in my opinion, one for each side. I think I'll stick with the Webber for now. Some have advised me to find a NOS Mullard rectifier, but they are way too over priced to me & the SS Coper Cap is doing a fine job as it is.
  16. Jay, I have used a 5U4 GA in my Latino ST120, I called Bob before I tried it and he said that it would not hurt it, and it could actually make my power tubes last longer because it didn't push them as hard. All this, if you didn't need all the power of the amp, With my Cornwall's, my pre volume knob is rarely turned beyond about 9 O'Clock position. I ran it like this for about 2 weeks and went to the Weber Copper cap SS rectifier. I like the SS rectifier, Zero problems with it.
  17. It's all good here, I know what you mean with the amp, I thought my Latino ST120 would be a stepping stone, but I really can't imagine it getting much better than this. I've rolled a few tubes through the pre section and have wound up with three, NOS Ampex Bugle Boys replacing my NOS Mullards. The tape deck is great, I also found a NaK LX-5 that had been fully gone through, so I am also enjoying some cassette tapes as well. Meant to tell you I found a new copy of Little Hatch's "Rock With Me Baby" on a (AcousTech) 45 rpm 180 gram two LP set, almost as sweet as your Tape Project version, I said almost! You got anything new other than the amp?
  18. I run a Carver C-11 pre in my main system and it does a good job. I have heard good things about the C-1, would love to try one in my system.
  19. Good looking amp Jay! Bet it sounds great as well.
  20. Jay, that looks great, I know it sounds even better!
  21. Dave I have the OM & SM in a PDF file, shoot me your email address and I'll shoot them to you! Jeff
  22. I think I have the OM for it on PDF. I'll look. Jeff
