Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate the input. I am starting to believe that it is in fact the media causing the pops and snaps. It always happens in the same spot on certain DVDs (1 or 2), and CDs (2 or 3). I was wondering if it was the frequency response of the tweeter in the RF-3. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this annoyance with their RF-3's. On certain DVD movies, and with some music CD's, I hear annoying pops, clicks, and snaps coming from my right RF-3. This has just started to happen in the last 4 months, and the speakers are less than 1 year old. At first, I thought it was the media, because I could reproduce the problem by watching the Stargate DVD at the "Going Through" scene. However, I noticed the pops and clicks occurring with a brand new music CD I purchased last week. Anyone have any ideas? I have recently been turned onto the iScan Pro line doubler. Never even knew this thing existed. What is it all about? Can it really produce a picture as good as or better than progressive scan DVD? If anyone has this piece of hardware, I'd be very interested in knowing more about it. For instance, how will it work with a rear projection HDTV like the Toshiba TN61X81? Any input will be very appreciated. Wow! I've never even heard of that iScan product! You learn something new every day, and there's always something to spend money on. Can you please shed some light on how this thing actually works? I checked out the website, but don't really understand all that "line doubling" mumbo jumbo. I haven't even seen progressive 480p video in person yet, so I don't know what to expect. This iScan Pro product seems to do everything and then some for video. I'm going to put up a new topic on this thing because I haven't heard of other people on this forum owning it. Maybe others will have input. Absolutely, positively, without a doubt go with the RC-3 for the center and the RS-3 set for surrounds. To save money initially, I went with Synergy SS-1 surrounds. Eventually, I traded them in for the RS-3 set. Don't compromise now, and you'll be spared the trouble of upgrading. CB: The RF-3's are worth the price no matter where you buy them. Having listened to them, you should already know this. If you are looking for a deal, I would suggest you visit eBay. You can probably find a pair for about $500. If you buy new, expect to pay anywhere from $550 to $900. I own the RF-3's and paid $759.00 for them new. They are worth every penny.

One other thing belial... The RC-3 has a higher quality tweeter and drivers. You will get more depth in your midrange and also much higher frequency response as opposed to the SC-1.

belial: I purchased a set of RF-3's and a RC-3 with the SS-1 Synergy surrounds. I tried out the SF-2's in the store before I purchased my setup. To me, the Synergy series lacked the extreme highs and lows I was looking for. I found them to produce mostly midrange sound. I was lucky enough to hear the speakers side by side before I made a choice. I ended up going with the Reference for the front soundstage due to the amazing full spectrum of sound. The SS-1's were fine for surrounds, but I have since upgraded to RS-3's for even more clarity. Everyone is on a budget, so you have to do what works best for you. I would advise you to get RF-3's for mains, and get the matching RC-3 center for your front soundstage. Use your SF-2's for surrounds or "B" speakers in another room. If you want to try out the RC-3 with your SF-2's, and you are sure you cannot purchase it locally, make sure you go with a reputable online retailer that doesn't charge a re-stocking fee or an arm and a leg for shipping. This way, if you don't like the sound of the RC-3 with your SF-2's, you can return it. Good luck!

OK Razer, I got the RS-3's. I couldn't wait until Saturday. Overall, I immediately noticed a difference in the clarity of both the drivers, and the horns. I then set up the RS-3's as "B" speakers so that I could hear them alone. Highs and midrange were so clear, and the bass was so tight, that I would almost recommend these speakers for mains on a 2 channel system. What a difference from the SS-1's. I set up the SS-1's the same way on the "B" speaker outputs before I boxed them up and brought them back to the store. The midrange was clear, but the highs and bass were not as pronounced as on the RS-3's. In a nutshell, I believe the RS-3's are better speakers. For the extra $100.00, I would go with them over the SS-1's. I wish I went with them in the first place!

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into the Denon 2800 and the Pioneer Elite DV-37. I've seen mixed reviews on the 2800. Everyone seems to love the Pioneer. I may go with the Pioneer so that it will match my receiver. Decisions, decisions.

I have the reference series set also. I recommend the setup to anyone (RF-3, RC-3, RS-3). One word of advice, don't buy your speakers from an online retailer unless they are reputable and you have dealt with them before. I would suggest you spend the extra money and buy from a local dealer near you. These speakers are worth every penny.

Razer: I did the same thing you did. I bought the SS-1 surrounds with the Reference fronts because of the sheer size of the RS-3's. I have consulted this board, and many other audio enthusiasts about ugrading. In light of the feedback I have received, I am upgrading to the RS-3's this weekend as a matter of fact. If you want to wait a few days before you upgrade, I'll let you know how much better they are, and if it's worth it. The RS-3's are supposedly a much better full range speaker. They can handle more bass, and they have a much better tweeter for higher frequency response.
