  1. Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate the input. I am starting to believe that it is in fact the media causing the pops and snaps. It always happens in the same spot on certain DVDs (1 or 2), and CDs (2 or 3). I was wondering if it was the frequency response of the tweeter in the RF-3. Maybe it's time to upgrade to RF-7s if the frequency response is higher... ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RS-3 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Interconnects Monster Power HTS2000 http://www.jefnel1.com/hometheater/ht.html
  2. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this annoyance with their RF-3's. On certain DVD movies, and with some music CD's, I hear annoying pops, clicks, and snaps coming from my right RF-3. This has just started to happen in the last 4 months, and the speakers are less than 1 year old. At first, I thought it was the media, because I could reproduce the problem by watching the Stargate DVD at the "Going Through" scene. However, I noticed the pops and clicks occurring with a brand new music CD I purchased last week. Anyone have any ideas? The speakers are bi-wired with 16 ga. speaker wire. ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RS-3 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Interconnects Monster Power HTS2000 http://www.jefnel1.com/hometheater/ht.html
  3. Yeah Tom... I caught the Tommy Lee cribs also. What model speakers do you think he has? He does mention Klipsch, but doesn't plug the model. ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RS-3 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Interconnects Monster Power HTS2000 http://www.jefnel1.com/hometheater/ht.html
  4. I have recently been turned onto the iScan Pro line doubler. Never even knew this thing existed. What is it all about? Can it really produce a picture as good as or better than progressive scan DVD? If anyone has this piece of hardware, I'd be very interested in knowing more about it. For instance, how will it work with a rear projection HDTV like the Toshiba TN61X81? Any input will be very appreciated. I was almost ready to buy the Denon 2800! ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RS-3 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Interconnects Monster Power HTS2000 http://www.jefnel1.com/hometheater/ht.html
  5. Wow! I've never even heard of that iScan product! You learn something new every day, and there's always something to spend money on. Can you please shed some light on how this thing actually works? I checked out the website, but don't really understand all that "line doubling" mumbo jumbo. I haven't even seen progressive 480p video in person yet, so I don't know what to expect. This iScan Pro product seems to do everything and then some for video. I'm going to put up a new topic on this thing because I haven't heard of other people on this forum owning it. Maybe others will have input. Thanks! ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RS-3 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Interconnects Monster Power HTS2000 http://www.jefnel1.com/hometheater/ht.html
  6. Absolutely, positively, without a doubt go with the RC-3 for the center and the RS-3 set for surrounds. To save money initially, I went with Synergy SS-1 surrounds. Eventually, I traded them in for the RS-3 set. Don't compromise now, and you'll be spared the trouble of upgrading. Get the entire reference set and you will be more than satisfied for years to come. ------------------ A/V System: Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX Philips CDR-765 Sony CDP-CE345 Sony SLV-N60 Sony DVP-S530D Toshiba TN61X81 HDTV Klipsch RF-3 Mains Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch SS-1 Surrounds BA PV-600 Sub Monster Cable Connections Monster Power HTS2000
  7. CB: The RF-3's are worth the price no matter where you buy them. Having listened to them, you should already know this. If you are looking for a deal, I would suggest you visit eBay. You can probably find a pair for about $500. If you buy new, expect to pay anywhere from $550 to $900. I own the RF-3's and paid $759.00 for them new. They are worth every penny.
  8. One other thing belial... The RC-3 has a higher quality tweeter and drivers. You will get more depth in your midrange and also much higher frequency response as opposed to the SC-1.
  9. belial: I purchased a set of RF-3's and a RC-3 with the SS-1 Synergy surrounds. I tried out the SF-2's in the store before I purchased my setup. To me, the Synergy series lacked the extreme highs and lows I was looking for. I found them to produce mostly midrange sound. I was lucky enough to hear the speakers side by side before I made a choice. I ended up going with the Reference for the front soundstage due to the amazing full spectrum of sound. The SS-1's were fine for surrounds, but I have since upgraded to RS-3's for even more clarity. Everyone is on a budget, so you have to do what works best for you. I would advise you to get RF-3's for mains, and get the matching RC-3 center for your front soundstage. Use your SF-2's for surrounds or "B" speakers in another room. If you want to try out the RC-3 with your SF-2's, and you are sure you cannot purchase it locally, make sure you go with a reputable online retailer that doesn't charge a re-stocking fee or an arm and a leg for shipping. This way, if you don't like the sound of the RC-3 with your SF-2's, you can return it. Good luck!
  10. OK Razer, I got the RS-3's. I couldn't wait until Saturday. Overall, I immediately noticed a difference in the clarity of both the drivers, and the horns. I then set up the RS-3's as "B" speakers so that I could hear them alone. Highs and midrange were so clear, and the bass was so tight, that I would almost recommend these speakers for mains on a 2 channel system. What a difference from the SS-1's. I set up the SS-1's the same way on the "B" speaker outputs before I boxed them up and brought them back to the store. The midrange was clear, but the highs and bass were not as pronounced as on the RS-3's. In a nutshell, I believe the RS-3's are better speakers. For the extra $100.00, I would go with them over the SS-1's. I wish I went with them in the first place!
  11. BobG: Hello Regis: Hello BobG, Regis Philbin here from ABC's "Who Wants To Be A Millionare". BobG: Oh no, not again! Regis: I'm sorry to bother you again BobG, but we have another vomit related question. BobG: Can't you people call someone else? Regis: Sorry BobG, but you are the high master of pukeology, home theater, and Klipsch speakers. Who else can we call?
  12. Thanks for the info. I'm looking into the Denon 2800 and the Pioneer Elite DV-37. I've seen mixed reviews on the 2800. Everyone seems to love the Pioneer. I may go with the Pioneer so that it will match my receiver. Decisions, decisions.
  13. I have the reference series set also. I recommend the setup to anyone (RF-3, RC-3, RS-3). One word of advice, don't buy your speakers from an online retailer unless they are reputable and you have dealt with them before. I would suggest you spend the extra money and buy from a local dealer near you. These speakers are worth every penny.
  14. Razer: I did the same thing you did. I bought the SS-1 surrounds with the Reference fronts because of the sheer size of the RS-3's. I have consulted this board, and many other audio enthusiasts about ugrading. In light of the feedback I have received, I am upgrading to the RS-3's this weekend as a matter of fact. If you want to wait a few days before you upgrade, I'll let you know how much better they are, and if it's worth it. The RS-3's are supposedly a much better full range speaker. They can handle more bass, and they have a much better tweeter for higher frequency response.
  15. That would be great, JTYoung! Where did you hear the rumor? I've been monitoring Amazon.com for news, but nothing yet.
  16. I have RF-3 & RC-3 in the front, and SS-1 for surround. They sound great with my setup, so I don't see why they wouldn't sound good as rear surrounds in a 6.1 setup.
  17. Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life are good owns for DVD HT fans. They each have an outstandingly accurate soundtrack throughout the movie. The Matrix helicopter scene and shootout scenes are great for testing highs and lows, as is the U-571 DVD. Other pulse pounding bass honorable mentions (in my opinion) are as follows: the initial meteor shower in "Armageddon" the fuel plane exploding in "Air Force One" the blood club scene in "Blade" cannon battle scenes in "The Patriot" the "Going Through" scene in "Stargate" the narrated opening scene of "Terminator 2" An honorable mention for VHS fans, the Star Wars Episode I THX video sounds awesome with the DSP modes of my Pioneer Elite receiver. Especially the pod race scene. I was amazed at how good a VHS tape can sound if you have the right equipment. Let's hope this one comes out on DVD sometime soon.
  18. AChris: I have RF-3's and RC-3 for the front soundstage, and SS-1 for surround. The large size of the RS-3's prohibited me from going all Reference. The sound blends seamlessly througout my system. I would advise you to definitely get the RC-3 to match the RF-3's in the front, but do whatever you want for the surrounds depending on your situation.
  19. Wow BobG! This would make a good question for "Who Wants To Be A Millionare": Which chemical gives vomit it's awful odor? a) Sulfuric Acid Citric Acid c) Hydrochloric Acid d) Buteric Acid Good one. With the tidbits of information you provide, you educate the rest of us. Thanks.
  20. I don't want to introduce any negativity here, but I also tried and tried to get my KSW-10 to produce some audible bass with my RF-3's. It seemed like the midrange and bass of the RF-3's overpowered the sub when set in "Large" mode on my Pioneer receiver. When I set the RF-3's to "Small" mode, bass was almost non-existent without the sub volume on 10. The bass from the KSW-10 just didn't integrate correctly. Not sure if the KSW-15 has that much more output. Probably depends on the amp. Anyway, I have since replaced my KSW-10 with a Boston Acoustics PV-600. What a difference. The bass blends in seamlessly when the RF-3's are set to "Large" or "Small" mode. The bass is always tight and never muddy with the PV-600.
  21. Wife said...YES!!! My wife let's me buy anything I want. Even when I try to restrain myself, she pushes me over the edge. She says, "If you want it that bad, go ahead and get! Juststop whining about it!" Of course, if I get a new receiver, she gets new jewelry. If I upgrade my speakers, she upgrades her wardrobe. Give and take...that's married life. Ain't it grand?
  22. Another honorable mention is definitely Toy Story 2. The sound dynamics of the opening scene with Buzz Lightyear breaching the atmosphere of an unknown planet, and of course the tight, steady bass of the cement pipe rolling down the street in the crossing scene. I myself am not a big fan of kid's movies, but I picked this one up for the sound!
  23. I agree that the Matrix has some killer scenes with bass that shakes the room, but nothing I have heard yet can touch the magnitude of the "depth charged" scene on the U-571 DVD. The silence...as one of the first charges falls deeper and deeper underwater...then, BOOM! Wake up the neighbors. You then get a surface view of the charges exploding underwater. The heavy bass of the explosion, then the extreme highs of splashing water. This DVD is a must for any HT buff.
  24. I use the system for 50/50 HT and music. I don't use any DSP processing like 5 channel stereo for music at the moment. I am considering the purchase of a DVD-Audio player though, and that format is 6.1 channel encoding. Would you suggest going with the RS-3's for this reason?
  25. I need new surround speakers to go with my RF-3 mains and RC-3 center. Would a pair of SS-1 surrounds match my speakers just as well as the RS-1 surrounds? The RS-3's are very large in size, so if the SS-1's match just as well, I'd rather go with those. Is there a big difference in sound/quality? Information is always appreciated.
