  1. I have a pair of KSW-10's mounted on either side, right up next to the tv. The tv is a rear projection unit with the tubes about 16-18" from the sides. I agree with Ray, try it, you might be surprised. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair) Yamaha RX-V1 Reciever Yamaha CDC-655 CD Player Toshiba SD-1200 DVD Toshiba TN50X81 50" HDTV
  2. Keith, Try this link, they seem to have some good prices for Dish Network. Get at least the 4922 for main receiver so you have the UHF remote and Dolby Digital audio output. http://www.satellitedepot.com/ I agree with you about cable. When I lived in Huntsville there were two companies competing, so the price was low, but so was the selection. Out here in AZ, the selection is greater, along with the price, the people who have digital cable are looking at satellite. Good Hunting. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  3. I am about to upgrade my rear surround speakers and add a rear center speaker. I am probably going with SS-1's mounted on the ceiling ala Doug Drake and others for surrounds. I was thinking of using an SC-1 for the rear center channel also mounted on the ceiling. Does anyone have any experience with this set-up for the rear center? I don't have a wall behind the couch to mount anything to. I also need to add some front FX speakers, but those are easy. This is what happens when you go overboard buying a new reciever. I went to the store and came home with a Yamaha RX-V1 the other day. It sounds great, but I still haven't figured it out yet. Thanks in advance. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  4. Thanks Doug. I can mount them behind the couch, there is no wall there. I also have to find a place for a rear center speaker and front fx speakers since I just got a new reciever with that capability. How do you think an SC-1 would work for the rear center hung from the ceiling? Jim
  5. Doug, Where are the SS-1's mounted relative to your listening position? I have a problem mounting on one wall which has windows, and am going to have to mount to the ceiling. Thanks ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  6. It's not all that surprising in this age of instant gratification. Most people don't want to spend the time to build something with their own hands, and some don't have the skills. From browsing this group, those who would want to build a kit and have the skills, already have rooms full of Klipsch speakers. I grew up building Heathkits (yes I am that old) cause it was fun and the end result was good quality for the price. I also do woodworking as a hobby because I like to tell people "I built that myself". I don't have rooms full of Heritage speakers, so I would love to build some for much less than retail price. If they do decide to offer kits, sign me up. On a different subject, when I run spell check, It doesn't have Klipsch in the dictionary! ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  7. I have been pleased with my Toshiba TN50X81. For a rear projector it is very bright and clear. It is supposed to be HD compatible, but don't have the receiver yet, maybe after it's paid for. It is interesting to note the difference between the old 27" and the new 50" TV when watching Dish Network programming. The artifacting in the background is much more noticible. I don't know how it is with Direct TV. I am too cheap to change providers since we mostly use it for kids programming. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  8. I think a complete kit or a parts kit with just the drivers and crossover would be great. I have a set of plans for the Khorns, that I think were from speakerlab originally, that I will probably never build due to the cost of purchasing the drivers and crossovers from Klipsch. I am keeping my eyes open for used Klipsch's. I just missed out on a pair of Khorns locally for $400.
  9. Steve, Glad to hear that you are up and running. I like the midrange response from my SF-2's also. My family room is on a concrete slab, but the two KSW-10's also shake the house. I am very happy with them. How do you like the SS-1 for rears? I need to replace the quintets. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  10. I tried to send this last week, but the BBS was now responding. I agree, the midrange is better with the SF-2 's compared to the SF-1's, but I disagree about the low end. I think the SF-2's have better bass (marginally) since they have a second mid/bass driver. Neither speaker has earth shaking bass, so the sub is needed. With my system, the opening of Toy Story 2 (yes I have kids) where Buzz is flying, you can feel the sonic booms even at low volumes. I know this is just the subs, but the rest of the track sounds pretty good to. ------------------ Jim SF-2 Mains SF-1 Center (pair) Quintet Rears KSW-10 Subs (pair)
  11. Hey Steve, You probably would. I started with the KSW-10 since it was all I could afford at the time, but it didn't have enough bass for my room. I looked at upgrading to a KSW-12 or -15, but couldn't justify the price, and I would have to get rid of the KSW-10. When I found the second KSW-10 it seemed like the best solution. If I was starting from scratch I would go with the 12 or 15. I am also looking for some cheap SF-1 or -2's to replace the quintets in the rear. Or upgrade the fronts to Heresy's or Cornwall's or LaScala's or Klipschhorns (oops got carried away) and rearrange the rest of the system. Jim
  12. Here is my system which I think sounds pretty good except for the rears which need upgrading. SF-2 Mains. A pair of SF-1's Center. Quintets Rear. A pair of KSW-10's. I couldn't put the center on top of the TV, so I put the SF-1's on either side. My Yamaha receiver allows 2 center speakers. The second KSW-10 was a smokin deal, otherwise I would only have one. Jim
