I DON'T NEED OR WANT YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTARY ON VALUE OR OPINION OF ANY SORT. KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.

isn't that what the Internet is for?

I switched over to tubes about 6 years ago. I was using my 2watt decware to power my La Scalas. Then 2 1/2 years ago I replaced the decware with 25watt Quicksilver horn mono amps. Love em!!

Any notes or thoughts on the Decware vs the horn monos?  I'm interested in both.  I was also looking at the Decware integrated amp which ups it to 6w for a couple hundred more

  3. I made an offer on a pair of 600m in plant city from Facebook... Listed at 459, she said she had an offer for 400 already. Oh well... For that, I'll just buy new.

Don't have any input for you on the other speakers.  I've never even heard the 600m but want to try them for rear surrounds.

There was one of these on Craigslist maybe a month or two ago.  It had been refurbished by Audio Classics a few years ago but had a front cracked faceplate. I think it was listed for 1500 and seller dropped the price another 100.  I still wonder if I should have picked that up.

Aaron, I have a deal you may be inclined to ponder.  If you will come to Plant City in a few weeks, you can take my Quicksilver KT88 monoblocks and Quicksilver line stage preamp.  Try these out for a month or so and if they appeal to you, they will be a bit less than your budget.  If not, bring them back and try something else.

I have had this gear for 20 years and have paired this setup with dozens of speakers from Magnepans to Klipshorns.  I am not actively selling but I know you and these no longer get much use.  I use vintage McIntosh for the Klipshorns and a Heresy in 3 channel stereo (magical) and use a Powernode with my Zu speakers.  I think I am going to settle on these two systems for a while.  That leaves a lot of electron manipulators I have managed to accumulate over the years lying around unused.

Wow, that's a super generous offer.  I am definitely intrigued in the Quicksilver stuff.  And plant city is an easy drive.

I'll be in touch...I really appreciate it.

  6. yeah, I appreciate their honesty.  With buying used, I may very well be buying sight unseen/unheard and would hate for the new system to be super noisy.

The Sphinx v3 is a class D design and Steve Guttenberg really liked it.  And...its only a hundred or two over my budget.  But.....no tubes.  And jeeze, who knows, maybe I wouldn't even be able to tell the difference  :D

Yeah, I've been looking at $1500 integrated tube amps but like I said, may switch over to the Quicksilver mono amps just because they are made exactly for high efficiency horn speakers.  I could see it being very easy to push the buy button at Amazon in the Willsenton r8, too, and having it in 2 days.  At least then I suppose it would be returnable if it was noisy with the Ls Scala II's, but I like to try and avoid buying and returning if I can.

  7. Emailed Rogue this am about pairing the Cronus Magnum II with the LA Scalas.  They said with speakers that efficient, you'd probably hear some noise.

They recommend either the Cronus Magnum III (out of budget) or the Sphinx v3, which looks nice but I really want to try tubes.

I may be back to the Quicksilver Horn Monos and a budget tube preamp.  Been searching this am trying to find what that preamp might be. Usaudiomart sure doesn't have a lot of tube preamp listed in the $500 range.

  8. Is the Willsenton r8 even something to consider?  It seems to get a lot of praise and last nite I saw a couple comments which caught my eye.

One, that the Willsenton and Primaluna were both from the same factory (I was drolling over the PL 100 integrated)

And two, someone else said the China concern for hifi is really no longer valid as they make so much good stuff there.

Get those speakers and consider power later. You'll thank me... later

Yeah, I'm just thinking ahead.  I'm running outta money so might have to power them via an AVR for a bit. Fun shopping though.

    I just gotta make sure I don't came across a deal I can't pass up!  :D
