Anyone know of a repair shop in Atlanta that could handle repairing the Krell amp? I would look out of state but this thing is to heavy to ship.

There is a shop very close to me by the name "Audio Alternative"(yeswehaveawebsite.com) that does repairs, im thinking about calling them for the amp and tackeling the speakers myself. Has anyone dealt with them ?

After many weeks of negotiating I finally talked him into selling me the entire system. I got a pretty good deal on it all considering there are a few issues to be addressed. The tweeters will need new diaphrams, one of the toggle switchs on the preamp will need to be repaired or replaced and the amp will need to be gone over to diagnose an intermitent power issue. Everything was fully functional but real dirty and has since been cleaned thoughouly. Now the decision needs to be made about which peices to keep and which to sell or trade. Im leaning toward selling or trading the speakers in favor of some LaScalla's or Cornwalls ( I miss my Cornwalls and my wife tolerated their size alot better than these 6" 6" monsters, What was i thinking?!?!? lol) and the pre-amp for a newer and better one. In the meantime the hunt begins for new tweet's and a repair shop for the amp!

I am hoping to get some insight from the numerous brilliant minds reading these forums [] Today I met a guy that after a long talk about some work related issues told me he had an older 2ch audio system that he had purchased in the early 90's that was taking up space in his basement storage room. I talked him into showing it to me and was surprised to see the following: 1pr Dunlavy SC-IV in a light oak finish, a Krell KSA-200s, a Krell MD-20, and a Audio Research LS5. He is interested in selling it all as a package and is waiting for me to make an offer but I honestly have no clue what it is all worth assuming it is in good condition. I only had limited time and couldn't listen to anything but cosmetically everything looked good. I'm just not familiar enough with the brands to make an educated offer. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, value and any common issues with this equipment that I should look for.

I live about 20 minutes north of Decatur and go there often for work and to visit my Dad's office in downtown Decatur. The downtown Decatur area is really nice and trendy since it is home to Emory and Agnes Scott. Tons of great places to eat, bars, and entertainment. Like Mark said, there are lots of suburbs within a decent commute. Home prices in Decatur will be considerably more than you can find just 20-30 minutes away. If you want any suggestions just let me know. I have lived here for 28 years and love it!

I finally had a chance to setup the cornwalls and listen to them. Not good. The woofer on one is blown and neither of the high horns work. I'm hoping that rebuilding the crossovers will bring the horns back to life but I am conflicted as to whether or nott I should rebuild the w44e woofer or replace both of them with the correct woofers. Any advice?

My score isnt as good as the rest but still worth an honorable mention. I got a pair of Klipsch Cornwall II's for $100 and only drove 2 miles to pick them up!

Thanks to everyone who replied! After some careful consideration I have decided to rebuild the crossovers myself and repair the horn myself during the restoration of the cabinets. Money ended up being the deciding factor, I hate to cheap out but if I want to enjoy these great speakers sooner than later this is the best step to take. I have refinished and restored many pieces of furniture and have always leaned towards a more up to date look. Right now I am trying to decide what direction to go in regards to the look of the cabinets and grill. One idea is to mimic the newer Klipsch speakers with a gloss black paint job or black ash veneer and update the grill cloth with what the newer speakers use. Any opinions or has anyone seen this done before? I also thought about a cherry veneer with the updated grill cloth. Any ideas on where to get the new grill cloth material? I have also noticed that many of the speakers I see pictures of have dampining materials inside the cabinet, mine has none. Is this correct for this vintage of Cornwall? Should I add some? I have also seen some posts where Dynamat was added to the casing of the horns, does this help? Should I add this as well?

You say you didnt expect the K-44's, are they good or bad in this speaker? As for the crossovers, I am not sure whether I should rebuild the stock ones or upgrade to a differnet set. Any opinions?
