  1. These were just a few other photos ibtook of the inside of one.
  2. I still haven't figured out how/what to do with them but I did countersink the mount acres on both the top and bottom of the speaker since the screws were sticking out and I was afraid it would Mar something. I found it interesting that they came from the factory like this, they even have metal screw sleeves for the screws to sink into. I also had to vacuum out one of the dust caps and then decided to take a nakey picture.
  3. You need to look at the frequency responses of the transmitters. It matters to me because my subs go below what most can transmit. The klipsch subs shouldn't have an issue as most are above those ranges.
  4. i tested them outside today and i am extremely pleased with them. The cabs are in decent condition and it would be a shame to change the color of the cabs to ruggedize them. They have several holes fromt mounting which aggetates me which means really woody putty to fill the holes. I would love to refinish them though. Are you using polyurethane to refinish or just tung oil/linseeed?
  5. So I snagged 6 kp-101 for $80 today from a church that's part of a non profit childrens home. It was an awesome deal. The cabs are in OK shaoe and have screw holes from mounts but that's OK. I'm thinking use for the back yard is perfect but I will have to ruggedize the cabinets, not really a fan of the birch anyways. Woot! Listening to them for a bit, they are pretty soft on the high end and not as sharp and bright like a lot of models are and are a bit less open sounding than models with larger horns it seems. They do sound clean and clear and I wouldn't keep them really for critical listening or home theater but would dedicate them more for background music, garage speakers, outdoor speakers or more of a venue where their Pro design can be put to good use. They do crank though, no doubt about it.
  6. quality shade is always a top priority. now just to wait for some stuff to come up on craigs
  7. Haven't really done much to the back. I think we are getting string lights tonight like the round bulbs at Olive Garden to hang on the cinder block wall. Slowly but surely making changes
  8. ive been trying to get a reference point for my speaker project to get a handle on power used and output and what different speakers sound like. I've got my two rb-5's from storage and my emotive minix from my computer and I am really impressed. It's not using a lot of juice and sound is great. The amp has a lot more love to give but will most likely never see that much. Did some listening at different point around the yard and volumes seem pretty similar all over which is a great sign. I did some wide angle testing and the monitors being closer give better imaging overall. I think I'll keep an eye out for some rb-5's or similar.
  9. Finding the right house is difficult. We looked at some many house and to find one that we liked and that had a wall large enough to do home theater on properly was my issue. We don't have basements in AZ, mostly because the ground is so damn hard and the pipes don't really freeze so the need for a basement isn't really there. We weren't looking for a dedicated room but more of an open concept living room area that could hold everything. Having a dedicated room of a good size means a big house and more money but usually easier to find big rooms and more of them in bigger homes.
  10. something is funky with your setup. I don't think that things are power starved because if they were, you're breaking would trip or you have a bad breaker and things aren't tripping but you should still be getting the juice the setup needs. Your setup isn't out of the ordinary or outlandish by any means and many of us are running similar setups and usually on the same breaker which helps to eliminate groundloops with your subs. The first thing i would do is as stated above, make sure everything is in phase correctly and ensure that your settings on your subs are exactly the same. The less settings you apply while troubleshooting the better. The next part is to open up the settings on your processor and try not to place restrictions (keep stuff on full range). The point of this is to see if your signals are good to everything and its not some stupid setting that gets tripped because of another setting. Test the setup and if its all kosher, you can start to dial in your settings one at a time and checking. Also, make sure you use the same quality test media that you know is tried and true and you know what things are supposed to sound like. What is the point of swapping media because you aren't comparing apples to apples. This is the best starting place. If you are still having issues, its time to switch circuits and move the whole setup. Yes, its a beotch but its troubleshooting. I spent 3-4 months troubleshooting my first power amp setup to find out that my XPA-5 had floor noise that i didn't like and was the sole culprit of my issue. Sometimes things are just that stupid simple.
  11. i know they do but none of them have the bass response i am looking for or the price :/
  12. Just curious to hear peoples opinions on the brand and quality of product. I haven't seen much stuff come up klipsch wise that would work and couldn't really find anything with the low frequency extension that i want. They also have some pretty well priced in-*ceiling stuff too. Cost is always a concern and if it sounds good, why not! Don't worry klipsch, i still heart your horns but some of your stuff isn't cost efficient and you don't always make what i'm looking for I was looking at these: http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/apmasepasp.html
  13. I met the guy last night and he said take it home and test it, no money up front!! Holy Crap!! Who does that? Well, i took it all home and the speakers work via bypass but i couldn't test the 70v or 100v settings because the amps input stage has failed and cannot get any signal to pass via XLR or the terminal block so as of now, i consider the amp a dead prospect. The speakers sound pretty good and were just a little dirt from the dust out here but no grease or anything or anything like that. The CA-5T speakers have no bass really but aren't really designed to have a deep bass extension and concentrate more on output. The CA-8T on the other hand has quite a bit more bass and more of what i would prefer. We came to an agreement of $350 for the whole set but that was before i knew the amp didn't work and he says he still wants $350 for everything. I am on the fence and just can't decide.
  14. LOL will have to see how this pans out and if i do wind up wanting to dump we can talk I did some more digging and the QSC amp was discontinued in 2003 and the current model speakers that i believe replaced these have been made since 2005 so these things have a bit more age on them i was originally led to believe and i doubt that they sat in someones inventory for 7-9 years before being purchased after being discontinued. I'm going over tonight to check them out, will have to see how that works out
  15. wearing gloves and cleaning drivers doesnt scare me off
  16. Let the input begin. Here is the subject ad: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/ele/5036660332.html I know that this was costly as a retail purchase and the guys is moving and this is from his restaurant that i guess he sold or shut down and the drivers have been exposed tot he elements for the last 3 years although direct/indirect exposure is unknown. I was toying with the notion of doing a setup with heresys or something like that but this could be the right setup as it does have the right amount of speakers i was looking for, even a little extra. Its a commercial higher voltage system and haent been able to dig up much on the speakers except for guessing by the numbers on the plates that the large driver is an 8" and the rest are ~5" drivers. I care more about these than i do the offbrand in ceiling or the two other in-ceiling klipsch units. I don't really feel like paying a whole lot for this set because it ultimately isn't ideal but for the right price it would get the job done. The guy is moving to cali in the next few weeks and want to get rid of it all. Thoughts?
  17. You have awesome speakers and I would only upgrade if you are looking for a bigger soundstage with 7's. Either of the in ceilings scrappy suggested will fit the bill nicely. I matched the 5800's to my first gen 7's and am extremely happy. I could have gotten away with smaller drivers but I wanted 8's.
  18. problem with toe in is creating a sweet spot. If you have a single listening position, do it. Whether to toe in or not for sa multiple seating listening environment is dependent upon how your seating is laid out and where your speakers are located. A good example is my listening environment. I have a L-Shape couch and it can fit about 7-8 people and the longest part is about 120". My speakers L/R are about 16' apart and in the corners. I have them toed in at different angles trying to get good coverage for the overall environment and trying NOT to create a sweet spot. Essentially, i want the sound waves to cross at spot where no one sits...ever. Obviously one speaker may sound louder due to listening position but i never ever have "oh it sounds awesome here" to "wtf, get out of my way i want my seat back" which is what i wanted. I also have my center, actually, off center from the listening position since my built in wall unit has a fireplace on one side and the media center on the other. I dont have any issues but i also want to mention that the seating environment along my back wall is about 12' from the center so it has a good amount of time to disperse.
  19. heresy....bass....same sentence? I think you should be fine. Subdudes or other acoustical foam are great for decoupling so that at least the resonance isn't put through the floor. The Heresys are pretty light in the bass department and i dont think you'll have much issue. My only other suggestion to to get them further up and away from the floor.
  20. i have my 7's in the room next to the patio and i can open a window but you have to blast it on the inside to get reasonable levels outside. I really don't want to have to move stuff around all of the time. I just want to permanently wire everything up to an amp and be done. I actually want to build the enclosures for the speakers and I'll make covers for them when not in use. I am a lurker with this stuff and i lie in wait for the proper products to come of availability. I'll probably wire everything up with direct burial wire inside conduit but i am always open for other ideas.
  21. we are mainly out there just relaxing on the weekends, no real party parties, not yet at least. the people behind our house are hicks and a piece of work from what i understand and my neighbors to one side ar around our age with a baby and the guy on the other side is a relaxed computer programmer.
  22. been quiet lately for me, doing interior improvements and working on the wo-man den. Thanks! I can't hang them under the eaves, heresys are way too big and the sun is way too powerful out here, plus its above the block wall.
  23. This is my property highlighted in yellow and the speakers are the pink circles. These are all approximate locations for now and how they will blend in the the landscaping is TBD. The first photo is a mock up of what we plan to have paved over and where the fire pit will eventually go.
