  1. When I cleaned my H/K A50K, I used a Cape Cod cloth. It took away all the dirt and grime and left the lettering intact. It looked like a new unit. Chad
  2. I have my home theater system in a glass fronted closed cabinet. When I watch a movie I have to keep the door open to let the heat dissipate. Chad
  3. How about using a Music Cocoon MC4 to power the Heresey's. It is a tube iPod amp that looks cool and doesn't sound too terrible connected to Heresey's. Chad
  4. Keep looking. My H/K I found at a thrift store for $25. I ran it for some time before I got it recapped. The cost of getting it recapped was about what they sell for on Ebay but now it is in top notch shape and sounds good for a few hundred dollars. Chad
  5. I got around to hooking the Roth up to my Heresys this morning. I left the iPod in the car last night so I hooked it up to my Universal Disc player and popped in the SACD of "The Rolling Stones Now!" The Roth has connections in the back for a pair of speakers using either banana plugs or binding, an 1/8" stereo input and RCA cables. The top has an iPod dock and comes with various inserts for different size iPods. The four12AU7 tubes are covered by frame of clear plexiglass and lit from the bottoms by red LEDs. The Roth name engraved into the back rest glows red. The power supply sits on the floor has a main power switch and is voltage switchable. This makes the desktop unit small and fairly lightweight. A remote, screwdriver and cotton gloves for installing the tubes are also included. The front of the amp has two knobs a volume knob and a selector switch. There are no tone controls, one could say that the Roth is an audiophile amp or else one could say that it's bare bones. Mine is different than the one pictured in that the volume position and the input selections are indicated by green LEDs. Now the important part, how does this thing sound pushing Klipsches? Not as good as my newly recapped H/K A50K but good. I live in an apartment so I didn't want to crank it up too loud but at slightly past 12 o'clock it was rocking the house but still sounding clean. Not as musical or clear as my H/K but decent. The music sounded good all the way from low volumes to mid way around the dial. I took out the Stones and put in a RCA Red Seal CD of Johann Strauss Waltzes. At high volumes the sound became a bit confused and muddled but this was in the top quarter of the volume dial. I use the MC4 to provide sound for my computer through a pair of Minimus 7 Pro speakers. When playing ripped CDs and my iPod through the amp at low volumes the amp sounds pretty good. I don't know if I'd want it as my main unit, but it could serve as a main amp. I could see hauling the amp, iPod and the Heresys outside for a party and having a decent sounding cool looking unit. I know that this review seems to be mixed. But I liked the unit. I think my praise would have been more effusive if I hadn't plugged my H/K back in and started listening to it right after the Roth. Since I found out about tube iPod docks I've wanted one and am not disappointed in getting one. I've used 1/8" plug to RCA jack adapters to power my iPod through stereos before but I think using the dock provides a more direct path for the signal. I hope that this was helpful. Chad
  6. I obviously wasn't able to get the amp hooked to my Klipsches today but I hope to be able too tomorrow and will let every one know how it sounds. Chad
  7. It will involve some moving of things but I'll try to give it a whirl in a day or so. Keep tuned for further developments. Chad
  8. I have one of these that I found at a pawn shop. I use it to power my computer speakers as well as run my iPod. It sounds pretty good through my Minimus 7 Pros. I haven't run it through my Heresys yet. Hmmm. It has pretty good power. I haven't cranked it up but normally keep it at 2 and it's pretty loud. The power supply is a box about the size of the amp that sits on the floor. It has three inputs, RCA, 1/8 plug as well as the iPod dock up front. Chad
  9. If you Google "Heresy E" the only sites that come up are in German (the ones that don't reference the crossover). So I guess export or Europe is probably correct. Chad
  10. I thought it might mean something like that. I was hoping it didn't mean Economy. Chad
  11. The other sticker is in better shape, you can read the hand written serial number and type but it says the same thing. The serial numbers are 55S560 and 55S613. Chad
  12. I guess I didn't get far enough into the thread. I skipped ahead a bit and saw the bit about the citrus based stripper. I guess it's off to Home Depot for me! Thanks again. Chad
  13. Here are pictures of the front with grill off and the tag on one of the speakers. When I get the back off I'll post pictures of that as well. They are 1978 and not sequential but close to one another. I looked at the link about refinishing speakers yesterday but it seemed to be mostly about using wood filler. If I continue on with reading it will it talk about stripping paint? Thanks, Chad
  14. I picked up a pair of Heresies the other day to go with my tube amp. I had just had my H/K A50K recapped and my tech showed me how it sounded through a pair of LaScalas. I was so impressed that I ran down to this pawnshop I know of and made a deal for a pair of 1978 Heresies that they had. The sticker on the back reads exclusively made for audio int'l Frankfurt/Germany HERESY E. I found out that Audio International is an company that sells stereo equipment but what is the E ? Does that mean it was made for the european market? Also, the cabinets are supposed to be HWO but they are covered in paint. What stripper should I use to get the paint off? I picked up a bottle of industrial strength Goof-Off but I wonder if something would work better. Thanks for your help and by the way this is my first post. Chad
