  2. I went ahead and bi-wired my RF-7's just because I could and because I had a whole bunch of speaker wire left over. Whether it made a difference or not I don't know. I figure it can't hurt it since it really is no different then using a larger gauge of speaker wire. Plus, I would think it would be better then using the Monster wire they use to connect the posts. Again, whether it made a difference, I highly doubt it made that much of one. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com

  4. Hey Kain64! You basically do it like every other sub. You take the SW preout and connect it to the Samson 1000 using the Bettercables cable they include. Then run normal speaker wire from the Samson to the sub. Is this what you wanted to know? ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com

  6. Hey all! I know this isn't a for sale forum, but there isn't one on the board. I have decided to part with my Denon 5800 receiver. My RF-7's will miss the Denon but I NEED money. BAD! This unit is in absolute PRISTINE MINT condition. I clean it religously on a weekly basis. You can't tell this unit from a brand new unit. My asking price is $1900. NO ATKIS REMOTE OR CHARGER BASE IS INCLUDED. I sold that "POS" off a long time ago. This is a great deal for anyone who already has a Pronto. Everything else is included (ie. box, manual, etc). My refs can be located at ebay under the name wildfire@kscable.com and at heatware under wildfire. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com

  8. Thought I would post the good news here since me and some others are Klipsch and Denon 5800 owners. ---------- DENON AVC-A1SE Upgrade 1) Dolby Pro Logic ll This upgrade provides Dolby Pro Logic ll decoding capability. The Dolby Pro Logic ll decoder reproduces dynamic 5.1-channel surround sound from 2-channel sources such as TV, videos and CDs. Dolby Pro Logic ll uses matrix decoding technology that has been dramatically improved over Pro Logic. With Pro Logic ll, for instance, the Surround (Rear) channels are in stereo instead of just mono with Pro Logic, and playback covers the full frequency range instead of just up to 7kHz with Pro Logic. These improvements let you enjoy a wide variety of 2-channel sources with the exciting effects of 5.1-channel surround sound. In Dolby Pro Logic ll, there is a Movie mode (*1) that creates a sound field for movies, a Music mode that does the same for music, and a Pro Logic emulation feature that reproduces sound effects in the way that conventional Pro Logic does. (*1) On Denon A/V receivers, this Movie mode is displayed as MODE CINEMA. 2) DTS 96/24 The upgrade also brings you DTS 96/24. High-quality 96-kHz, 24-bit sound playback from ordinary DVD-Video recordings is limited to only two channels, and there are also limitations on the picture. DVD-Video recorded in DTS 96/24, however, allows high-quality 5.1 channel sound playback in full-quality, full-motion video. DTS 96/24 also lets you enjoy both digital audio output and video output from your existing DVD player. 3) DTS ES Discrete 6.1 + THX Post Processing This upgrade further lets you enjoy Home THX Cinema Surround with DTS ES Discrete 6.1 Surround. Designed for the home listening environment, this provides THX post processing to give you clearly audible dialogue, more effective sound localization and directionality, and a greater dynamic range. The sound you hear in your home theatre more accurately reflects the sonic images intended by the producer and more closely matches the images on the screen. 4) Dolby Headphone Dolby Headphone decoding is possible with this upgrade. In conventional headphones, sound is directed into the listeners ears from two sides in order to preserve the stereo effects from the speakers. Dolby Headphone, however, generates signals that more closely emulate surround sound from the speakers to give you a more realistic multi-channel sound effect through your headphones. Dolby Headphone provides three modes: DH1: Referred to as Dolby Headphone Reference Room, this mode recreates a small, acoustically dry room, well suited to both music and movie programmes. DH2: This mode has an acoustically softer effect than DH1, and is best suited for music recordings. DH3: This mode gives a greater sense of distance and sonic dispersion to create a large room such as a concert hall or movie theatre. Dolby Headphone supports Dolby Pro Logic, Pro Logic ll, and Dolby Digital as well as stereo and multi-channel signals. Dolby Headphone reproduces the sonic experience you receive through your speakers from stereo or multi-channel sources. 5) Panja and Crestron Compatability This upgrade supports the Panja and Creston control protocols. 6) Improved Ease of Operation a) Adjustable Cross-over Switching The upgrade provides subwoofer cross-over switching with a choice of 3 cross-over frequencies: 80,100 and 120Hz. This lets you more accurately match the performance characteristics of the subwoofer to the main speaker system. Improved On-screen Displays The upgrade gives you the option to display the value on the monitor screen when you adjust the master volume. Note: These specifications are subject to change prior to the upgrade release. ---------- Overall the specs look good. I would have hoped for lower crossover freq's. If anyone wants to see the specs for themselves then go to http://www.denon.co.uk and look under products and A/V Components. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... 9. Congrats on the RF-7's. I have been enjoying mine for a few months now (RC-7 C, RF-7 LR, and 4 RS-7's Sides/Rears). Absolutely FANTASTIC speakers. I personally think they are the best speakers they have made to date (and I loved the KLF-30's). The first thing I noticed was their incredibly big soundstage and extremely precise reproduction of sound. I am very anxious to hear what you think about them when you do get them. Don't forget to post your thoughts up. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  10. Here is a link with someone else who had a similar problem. Hope this helps Subwoofer Solution ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  11. I second the vote for SVS. I have one and love it. Remember, the SVS is big vertically, not horizontally. Space wise, the SVS will take up only a little more room then the Sunfire. (Sunfire is 11" cubed according to you and the SVS is about 16" in diameter. So only 4" more in the footprint.) I think you will be dissapointed if you get the Sunfire IMHO. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  12. I also HIGHLY(!!!!!) recommend the SV Sub. I have one in the corner complimenting my R*-7 speakers. It's absolutely the best sub I have ever had. You don't just hear bass...you FEEL it. Just because SV Subs don't cost $1800 doesn't mean they aren't as good compared to the RSW-15. One of the most highly regarded subs in the industry, the Paradigm Servo 15, which costs $1500 was beat out by SV subs which cost a little over half as much (this was before the Ultra's came out). Now that the Ultra's are out I can't even imagine anything better for the price. For $400 less you can get an SV Ultra sub and probably enjoy it much more...IMHO. And if you don't believe us, then point your browser to Home Theater Forum They are the official SV sub forum and most of the people over there can tell you how good the SV Subs are compared to other subs. They all have had different subs previously. Inlcuding: Klipsch, Paradigm, Definitive, etc. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  13. I will throw my vote in. I currently have the following: Denon 5800 RF-7 L/R RC-7 C RS-7 Sides/Back I love the sound. I have heard the Onkyo, while not bad, doesn't sound as good as the Denon IMO. Now, you are doing a little different setup then me (Using towers for surrounds instead of surround speakers) probably because you are more of a music listener (that's what most music listeners do from my experience). However, if you are a total movie listener (like me) then you might want to consider the RS-7's. They are FANTASTIC surrounds. I was also thinking about doing full towers all around until I heard the RS-7's. What I like about them is that they are directional (like monopoles) and enveloping (like di/bipoles) at the same time. Klipsch has a big winner in my book. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  14. My favs are Titan AE, Jurassic Park DTS, Haunting DTS, Matrix, and The Fifth Element. Although, Titan AE is the one I use the most as it has just about everything to test on it (low bass, surround effects, etc.). I love showing it to people to test my system. They usually give out a big "WOW!". ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  15. I had a choice of any color and I still chose the black. I LOVE the way they look...better then the wood colored stuff. Plus, as you said, they match the other speakers. But go with what you want because you have to live with them. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  16. I believe the RX-V1 is their Flagship receiver. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  17. Well, I can't say much for the receiver debate except that I have a Denon 5800 and love it very much. I have never been a big fan of Marantz (sound and look). I do know the 3801 was a very good unit and most people seem to be happy with the new 3802. BUT one thing I need to stress highly is that you need to go by your own ear. I know lots of people who would gladly take a Marantz over a Denon (me being opposite). If your dealer will let you, see if you can take each unit home and demo them in house for a day or two when you get your new ref-7's (or at least one that has a return policy). I will tell you this, your listening preference for the receivers may change after you listen to each on Klipsch instead of Paradigm. Speakers make a BIG difference in the sound. A lot of people say that Denon is a good match for Klipsch. Unfortunately this is the best help I can give you. As for "compromising", I don't think that a 3802 is a compromise at any means. Its not a 5800, but the 3802 is a damn good receiver (or at least I hear). I personally wanted more in my setup (THX, 2 7.1 Inputs, 170W/Channel, LOTS of inputs, etc) and payed a premium to get all these extra items. You may not need that much and the 3802 could suit your every need. That's fine. Again, I have to say...do what sounds best to you. You are the one that will have to live with it every day. As for price...the best I have seen is at http://www.sounddistributors.com/ . I bought my speakers from a dealer a few hours away as my local dealer is a a@@hole (doesn't deal no matter how much you buy and is just plain rude). The dealer and I worked out a fantastic deal that made it so I didn't feel like I should buy them off the net to get them at a better price (basically he wasn't raping me on the price). Plus, Sounddistributors is NOT an authorized dealer so I don't think you get the Klipsch warranty. Although, I hear he does uphold the warranty through his store and has been good about it in the past (of course, this is hear-say). Hope I have helped you enough. Sorry if I wasn't to specific on anything. I just want you to realize that you need to be the final judge on the situation and to not take the opinions of others too strongly. 19. I would recommend the Ref 7's...but, of course, I am biased a little since I have them and love them so much. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  20. Sounds like another satisfied Klipsch Ref 7 owner. I am still loving them. They get better by the day. (I still need to get some pics taken of my theater) ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  21. Aren't these the coolest speakers. I don't even know if the invertion of sliced bread was as good Man, you and HornEd both enjoy those SVS just like me. I still can't even begin to imagine 2 subs in here. Of course, after so long I wouldn't mind trading up for an Ultra. I only run the front L/R speakers at large. I also use the LFE+MAIN setting so the below 80Hz info is still sent to the sub also. I have been meaning to try the others at the large setting since they do extend pretty low themselves. The LFE+MAIN setting will still send the below 80Hz info to the sub for those channels too...am I correct?? I am not quite sure. Will the center and surrounds be ok on the large setting? I am guessing it won't hurt the speakers at all to have them on large. I know it drives the amp harder, but I am not worried since the 5800 has a pretty good amp in it. Can anyone comment on this? ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  22. Boy..you sure did start at the top I tried the RF-7's at both SMALL and LARGE. LARGE just sounds WAY better for these speakers. And the cool thing about the Denon 5800 is that I can have my mains set to LARGE and have them get the below 80 Hz info and still send the below 80Hz info to the sub also (the LFE+MAIN option in speaker setup if anyone wants to know). Basically I am doubling up on the bass (never hurts ) That's why my bass just sounds so fantastic and seemless across the front (and chair ) I am glad to hear about your mother improving. I find that for myself my home theater has removed a lot of my stress. I had quite a bit. The home theater gave me a goal to strive for and huge amounts of enjoyment. I could never give it up (especially with my Ref 7's). quote: Given the specs of the Klipsch Ref 7 series and my experience with SVS, I am not at all surprised with the seamless integration you have with your new rig. If I were starting my project today, I would probably do just what you have done... with the exception of upgrading the bass to true Dolby minimum reference levels. This will probably be a project for me after I finish with the entertainment center change. I do eventually want to get an SVS Ultra and get close to true ref levels. But like I said above, the 20-39PC is more then enough to last me for now. Besides, with buying the Ref-7 setup and wanting to change my entertainment center around, my money resources will be drained for a while. I will definitely try to start threads when I can about my own personal heaven. You will surely hear from me when Ep.1 gets released on DVD. I do want to stress one point to everyone who reads my review (this is bolded for newbies to home theater). The review is based on MY opinion only. As with any speaker, receiver, etc purchase you should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS test things out for yourself. Reviews are great and I like sharing with others my experience (and brag a little while I am at it), but another person's review does not replace your own ears. I just wanted to stress that to all and I am sure everyone here will agree with me on this one. Thanks HornEd for the camera suggestion. I will definitely look into it once my resources (money ) fill back up (which I am hoping won't be too long). ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  23. I am extremelly satisfied with my 20-39PC. I went with the PC line because my current audio rack can't support another amp at the moment (looking to upgrade my audio rack also along with getting rid of my entertainment center and going to more of a TV Stand and Full A/V Rack system. The entertainment center is just too big and its holding me back from getting a WS RPTV.). Of course, the SVS is WAY more then enough bass for my theater. I just can't imagine putting twins or an Ultra in here. Plus, with the addition of the RF-7's the bass is even better. I find that the bass is less localizable since its coming from the speakers and the SVS. They blend absolutely perfectly and turn my couch into a bass shaker quite nicely . Of course, that doesn't mean that I would never upgrade. Personally, I wouldn't mind the extra headroom from an ultra or twins. Plus, I wouldn't mind relieving the stress put on 1 SVS sub (I know...it takes a LOT to stress an SVS, but it sounds like a good excuse to tell the family to convince them I need an upgrade ). But that is an upgrade for later on . I don't think the internal amp changes the sound very much. Of course, I am not the person to be answering this Q as I haven't heard a CS or Ultra to compare. You might email Tom or Ron. They could answer you Q perfectly. They were essential parts to my purchase of the sub. I wouldn't have bought if I hadn't talked to them first as they helped me figure out which sub I would need and if I would need 1 or 2. Those guys are fantastic dudes. They show that customer service doesn't end when you become successful. It should only get better. PS-I will see what I can do about getting some pictures online. It might take a few days as I have to do it the old fashion way (I don't have a digital camera yet). ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... 24. Thanks everyone! I couldn't be happier (could you tell ). boa12-I am sure they will sound just as good in cherry . Black was the only way I could go in order to match my surroundings. Curious...do you go to Kief's in Lawrence for your Klipsch stuff (I believe they are the only Klipsch dealer in the KC area..right?)? I was in there one time and talked to Mr. Kiefer himself. He is a really nice guy. I bought my Klipsch speakers from The Sound Station in Barttlesville, OK. The service was TOP NOTCH. I HIGHLY recommend them. (Can't hurt to advertise them since they were so good and I see people looking for good dealers all the time.) If you do call talk to Ash. He is an absolute fantastic guy who knows his stuff. I didn't buy locally because the dealer in Wichita (Custom Sound) was very rude. They also wouldn't budge a cent on the price even though I was buying 7 speakers at once. So I took my business elsewhere. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated... Anubis wildfire@kscable.com
  25. That's right! I am a full Klipsch convert now. I went from Boston Acoustics to a whole Ref 7 setup. I am not saying that my BA's were bad, but that the Klipsch kicks its butt in EVERY way . My system is now: Denon 5800 Klipsch RF-7 L/R Klipsch RC-7 C Klipsch RS-7 Rears and Sides (EX/ES) SVS 20-39PC I don't even know where to start on this. My soundstage is HUGE now. IMO it sounds better then any of the theaters in my town. I now realize what I was missing in sound. My Boston's sounded so shallow and small. The Klipsch sound full and reproduce the sound the way I like it. The RF-7's added such depth to everything. It sounds good from high to low. It also compliments my SVS VERY well. I am noticing new sounds that weren't there before. It's like watching my movies for the first time again. EDIT:Forgot to add that the RC-7 sounds equally as awesome. My BA's never sounded truely timbre matched. With the REF-7's the front soundstage is seemless. You could never tell the RC-7 was a different speaker. It's as detailed and full sounding as the RF-7's. The surrounds were the best surprise of them all. I orignally had BA VRS dipoles. I like dipoles very much, but also wanted to tell where the sound was coming from (kind of like a mix of a dipole and monopole). The BA's sound would tend to smear into each other (It would sound like the speakers were confused...does that make sense?). I hated it because I could never tell where the sound was supposed to be. The RS-7's provided the exact sound I wanted. I could tell where the sound was coming from, but it sounded like it enveloped the side of my room and the sound never invades the other speakers territory (like a movie theater). I have to give the REF-7 series a whole hearted 100 out of 10. Everyone needs to take a listen to these. You will NOT be disappointed. PS-Sorry if I sound like I trying to sell them. I am just so happy to have these awesome speakers. I wanted Klipsch speakers even before I bought my BA's, but couldn't afford them. I loved the Legend series when they were first released. I wanted them so bad, but settled on the BA's as I liked their sound better then everything else I heard at the time (except the Klipsch) and they fit my budget. Now I have to say the REF-7 series takes the cake over everything else I have listened to...IMO. ------------------ --- ...transmission terminated...
