  1. I’m in need of a RSW-15 Grill as well. Anybody out there still have one for sale? i also have a dinged up front woofer. I can’t remember if that was the passive or active. If it was the passive, I might be interested in one of those as well. Thanks, send me a PM if you can help. Im just outside Chicago.
  2. Here is the room I am working with.
  3. I think my only concern with people recommending these large (normally used as mains) for center channels is they are incredibly difficult to work into a clean HT install unless you want your center channel off to the left or right of your tv. If you do that, the audio sounds like it is coming from the wrong location and all the HT dialouge goes through the center. For music, i'm sure that is not a problem. I have a ton of unused room where these speakers would go, so space is not a concern. So I see a couple people saying that the KLF-C7 won't be a total tragedy and I can get a pair of early 90's La Scalas for just a couple hundred more than what I can sell my KLF's for (so that is not a big deal) I just wanted to make sure that wasn't a huge mistake for a HT heavy environment. When new KLF-30's sold for $1800 a pair and La Scalas were more than double that amount so I was hoping there was a pretty big difference in sound quality.
  4. TNRabbit, yes I have an RSW-15 so I am not worried about bass in the least!! I was watching Iron Man last night and when he walked out of the cave in his cobbled together suit I though my house was going to fall down. My wife texted me from 2 stories up to tell me the windows were shaking and I was scaring the dog!! I love subs!!
  5. I don't have a projector. That is an 82" tv on a stand recessed into the wall 2ft. I'm not really wanting to go to extremes to have the "perfect" sound. I don't really have a golden ear so maybe I should have phrased my question differently. Will La Scalas be a better main speaker (75%HT,25%Music (mostly hip hop, techno, rock), than the KLF-30's I currently have? Sorry for the drawn out thread but I am going to get in a little hot water buying more speakers, I just want to make sure it is worth it!!
  6. How about something that fits in the cubby hole above my tv? I have a KLF-C7 or a RC-62, neither will suffice? Will I hate myself if I try either of those?
  7. What is the best center for La Scalas?
  8. I have a great set of klf-30's already but was wondering if a nice set of late 70's La Scalas would be better. I know the scalas can hang with the best in music but how do they do with HT? I have a medium sized HT in my basement with everything listed in my profile at my fingertips. What is your opinion?
  9. UPDATE! [] I got the refurbed amp in 2 weeks ago and much to my dismay, I then found out the sub was fried!! Apparently it is common for a blown amp to toast a sub in the process! Klipsch had me test the amp with an Ohm meter and it tested bad (.1 Ohm). At this point I was thinking that Rix was going to just pull the plug on the whole deal and return my money! Much to my surprise, he stepped up and offered to pay for a replacement woofer to make things right. On Monday I got the new woofer from Klipsch and installed it within seconds! Guess what... this thing ROCKS. I want to give a big thanks to Rix! We could have had a really ugly situation but he managed to make it right! Thanks again Rix! Fellow forum members, don't ever hesitate to do business with him. He is first class all the way!
  10. Agreed, a computer cord is plenty heavy duty for this application. Where you can get in trouble is if you are trying to run long distances with a thinner guage cord. Most computer cords are only 4-5 feet long and they range from 18-14 guage. I have a box with about 15 of them in my basement right now. My new 1300w computer power supply that cost $310 came with a 12 guage cord, probably just so it didn't look wimpy but who knows. Just as an update, when I cracked open the sub to check the amp it was quite obvious that it was toast. It had a bunch of burned out components (resistors, caps, transistors, etc) I even heard stuff rattling around when I rolled the sub on it's side. That turned out to be a burned up capacitor and some melted plastic from another component. I was excited that Klipsch only charged $140 to exchange my toasted amp for a refurbed amp. Hopefully this one won't meet the same fate. I will post back once I get the replacement amp installed.
  11. I had heard the opposite from some others. They said put the bigger speakers in the rear locations. The bigger speakers would fit way better in the back because they could actually go on a wall instead of being suspended precariously from a soffit at a weird angle to make sure they were pointed at me. Is it a concensus that the bigger "surround-esque" speakers should go on the sides and not the rear? Any other help on my situation?
  12. The ultra wide angle lens she used for the photos kinda makes the room look weird but I think you can get the idea of what I am working with.
  13. Ok, I have a new HT room in my basement and need your expert advice! I am attaching a photo in the next post. 2 KLF-30's for mains 1 KLF-C7 2 RS-42's 2 RS-10's 1 RSW-15 2 KSP-S6's that won't fit for surrounds but if you think they would work for rears better than the RS-42's I am game for that. Denon 2310CI (AVR-890) I am sitting 10.5' from my 82" Mitsubishi The fronts are about 12' from me at a 45 degree angle. Center is about 7' up (aimed at me of course) and 10.5 feet away. I want to put the surrounds about 7.5' up on a soffit directly left and right of me. They would be about 7' to the side of the prime watching location. The rears would be about 10' behind me at a 45 degree angle. and also about 7' up. Now that you can visualize my setup, I want to ask a basic question. If I was going to keep the RS-10's and the RS-42's, which would you use for the surrounds and which for the rears? The RS-10's would fit the best as surrounds but I wasn't sure if you wanted more power for rears or for surrounds. I have contemplated getting RS-35's for the surrounds but I wasn't sure what you guys thought.I got a great deal on the RS-42's so I would like to keep them. I have never had a HT system even remotely as sweet as this one so I do not have a golden ear and do not need to buy the speakers that go with a golden ear. I just want a system that matches all around and is not obnoxiously lacking in any one area.
  14. Rix has been really helpful in this whole ordeal. He got everything lined up for the repair at Abt Electronics. He offered right off the bat to return my money but I would hate to see a good Sub fall by the wayside for such a cheap repair. Hopefully Abt doesn't add a bunch to the bill because honestly it is 15 min of time to pull the amp out and put a new one in.
  15. Just an update for anyone like me, who needed to know what it costs to replace the Control Board and Amp of a RSW-15 (they want them both back just incase the board is what caused the problem with the amp). The service price (shipped) is only $140. P.S. Not sure why it was $120 to fix my KSW-15 amp (which costs 3x less than the RSW-15)!
  16. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the cord because it is the exact same size and shape as a standard computer cord. If they had a specialized cord for the sub I don't think they would pick a shape that is the same as one that millions of people have laying around their houses.
  17. Rix and I both had no concerns when I bought it because it had been working fine in the recent past. Me being too excited about getting it home didn't think to actually test it before we loaded it up. I actually have more info for this problem. When I rolled it on its side to see the power socket better I heard the tinkling of what sounded like a piece of loose plastic or metal inside. Do these things have an internal fuse that may have fallen out? P.S. I want to assure you that Rix is standing behind this sub and is more than willing to refund my money. If there is no easy solution I am going to call Klipsch on Monday and see if they have any ideas. The replacement amp for my KSW-15 was $120 with a core return, maybe it won't be ridiculous (crosses fingers).
  18. All, just picked up my RSW-15 from Rix Klipsch today and got her home but ran into a problem! NO LIGHTS when plugged in. Rix did not have the original power cord but we both agreed it looked exactly like a standard Computer power supply cord so that is what I am using. We are both baffled by this thing! Is a standard computer power cord a problem or is the amp dead? Help us out! Is there anything else that could be wrong? What does Klipsch charge for a replacement swapped amp for this beast? P.S. I have tried all of the easy fixes (flipping the auto enable switch, checked fuse, on off switch, volume up and down, different inputs, y-cable). For reference when I take the same feed rca cable and plug it into my Polk 8" it starts bumping.
  19. twkloud! Where were you 3 weeks ago? I tried to follow all the other suggestions but Klipsch would not send me any information on the component values and generally didn't seem interested in helping me figure them out. I ended up trading mine in for a refurbished amp at $120. I have my subwoofer out at woofer.com (it has been a long time), and hoping to get it back soon so I can test this beast out!! Glad to hear you like yours. Do you think I would benefit from another KSW-15? I have space for it but I wasn't sure if it would be too much for my HT room. The room is ~35x20
  20. I will try to call them again on Monday. Last time it took over 45 minutes to get through and the guy basically told me it wasn't worth fixing the sub and that I should just buy a new one. I will write down the socket locations and see if they will help me out. Still wondering if anybody else has a ksw-15 they want to crack open and snap a couple pics..... Oh yeah, the guy I bought from won't even pick up the phone when I call him. I also wrote him 2 emails and no reply. He probably knew it was fried and doesn't want to man-up and give me a break on the price.
  21. Yeah, I referenced the fact that I had seen a bunch of people paying $60 to swap for a refurb but he said the ksw-15 was $120. He wasn't really very helpful at all so I thought I would try and go the diy route. Can't put more into this thing than it is worth. Especially since when I bought it, the guy failed to mention it had a fried amp!!
  22. Yeah, my hope is that somebody (with a KSW-15) is bored enough to crack open their AMP and maybe snap some pictures of the original resistor colors. Then I could try and track them down. If they are really tech savy, they might even know the values (otherwise I am going to have to learn what the color bands mean). I really don't want to pour ~$150 (I thought it was $60 to swap an amp, but they said $120 +s/h) into a refurbished amp from Klipsch when I know it is about $10 worth of parts. Thanks for any help you guys are able to give me! Scott
  23. Hi everyone, I am new to the community and was in need of some help. I bought a used KSW-15 from a guy and it has two problems. 1) The subwoofer cone is torn and obviously needs to be replaced. I sent it out to Paul at woofer(dot)com and he is going to give me an estimate to recone it. I also found a chap on Ebay that is selling a K-1060-K 15" woofer and claims it will work just fine. My concern is that the 1060 comes from a sealed enclosure on the KSP-400 and the 1072 is obviously ported in the KSW-15. Is there any chance that the 1060 will work as a substitute? 2) The amp was fried on the sub. I pulled it out and found 4-5 burned out resistors and 2 burned out transistors. Unfortunately they are charred beyond identification. I am pretty handy with a soldering iron but I really have no idea what their original values are. Klipsch says they will replace the amp with a refurb for $120 but I am guessing I have about $5 in parts to repair it. I attached the images in a zip file to this post. Does anyone have any time to help me identify the burned out components on my amp? I am attaching picutres incase somebody gets really bored and wants to help! Thanks for any help you are able to provide!! Scott KSW-15 AMP Pics.zip KSW-15 AMP Pics.zip KSW-15 AMP Pics.zip
