  1. I have the onkyo 676. I don't know about the metallic thing, but that can have different reasons like the source component and the connection. Mine is hooked up to a Pioneer DV-525 with a Coax-digital connection cable. rock on. As I stated in another reply: check the volume control on all other receivers. klipsch are very efficient speakers!! Onkyo 676 has an excellent digital speed sensitive volume control. Love it It has also the DSP modes you need nothing more(some receivers have a lot of them you never use(like the sony's o boy) ). Specially like the 5 ch stereo. And Giga's of power. (to much for the RF-3's) For the look's (out dated and clumsy): take a close look and think again!!!!!!!!!!! It looks just fine. Al the buttons are on the right place. period. I specialy Like the DOT-matrix display with its itallic characters . But that is just personal taste. O almost forgotten: Cool back light remote control. You can learn it to control any equipment that use a remote control. With this receiver I use just one remote to control all my equipment. Like it!! For the other receivers ... just compare it with what I stated here. In eather way Good Luck! ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3's Rear: RF-3's Center: RC-3
  2. Not so obvious. Ok for the centerspeaker the matching RC-3 for placement issues. But the rear's???? I have for the rear the same as the front: RF-3's. It is always better to match all the speakers and what a difference with those rear RF-3's. If I could, I would have one more RF-3 for the center channel, but that is just not possible or is it. Let me know. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3's Rear: RF-3's Center: RC-3
  3. I have the onkyo 676. It is a very nice receiver. Specialy the DSP modes, just the one you need nothing more. Like the 5 ch Stereo. In any way you need to be carefull in the volume control with the RF-3's. Previous I had a Sony 930 receiver. I could not set the desired volume. It was eather to high or to low not to mention the lowest volume for background music. Conclusion be carefull in choosing a receiver with the RF-3's. Check intensively the volume control. The onkyo 676 has no problem in this area. It has a nice digital speed sensitive volume controler. ---------------- Onkyo 676 Pioneer DV-525 Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3's Rear: RF-3's Center: RC-3
  4. I have: Mains-RF-3's Center-RC-3 Rear-Rf-3's It was my intention to match all my speaker the best I can. Maybe later also third pair of RF-3's for front and rear center channel. But in your situation I would go for the RS-3's. Why? Well, look at the specs of your RP-3's and those RS-3's. Both 95db and 110w power handling, the enclosure is sealed for both. Also the woofers are both 6.5". Not that they would sound very similar, I don't now. I think that the RF'3 would be overkill as rear with 98 db and 225w. But than again you have to place them RS-3's bookshelf or wall mounted RF-3's floorstanding If that's no problem go for the RS-3's. Sparky
  5. Wrigley, you are so right. I was almost gone with such a system. Good I listened secondly to my CD & DVD's. And indeed the midrange is totaly absent. Also the low is not comparable to the system I now have (see below). But this is only for the sound. Did you take a look to that small control center. I tought it was Alu metal. No way, "plastic". The connection to the bass module, oh boy... Not to speak what kind of amplification there is in the bass unit... But the worst of all : you have no idee how loud you are playing . Indeed there is no way the control center indicates any kind of volume level. That was to much for me . So my system: DVD: pioneer DV-525 Receiver: Onkyo-DS676 Front Speakers: RF3 Surround: RF3 Center: RC-3 TV: Thomson 46" RearProjection Sparky
  6. Hi all, I had the same problem, even wors. For a short time I had put my RC3 also on top of my previous TV(now have a Thomson RearProjection). Indeed you here some noise comming from the RC3, even when the amplifier is turned off ]. Solutions: 1. Put the RC3 on a stand 2. Get a rear projection TV
  7. Brian, Still if you are not bi-wiring you shouldn't use those brackets. They may look really nice, but are very bad (for sound). You should use speaker cable, the same you use for connecting the speakers to the amplifier.
