  1. Thanks, too bad it's just one but I am working on another pair right now.
  2. Just got this baby today thanks to the UPS Man. This speaker is much heavier and looks much nicer than I imagined. I will piecing this system together as I find good deals and this on was the first. More pics to come as I get more speakers.
  3. Scrappy, you would have to thow in a completely new option just to make it that much harder wouldn't you.[*-)] Actually I never even considered The XPA-5/UPA-2 combo, might be worth considering. I definitely prefer having the same series and same power for the LCR speakers.
  4. It can't be anything else other than the player. Either I got a faulty unit, or the Oppo just isn't that good. I have to believe the unit is just bad because people would not keep paying $500 for this. I will say that when I pause a blu ray and there is no movement in the picture it is very close to the PS3 but not quite as good. I have two blu rays that I have two copies of and I played them simultaneously on the Oppo and the PS3 through different inputs on the projector and would pause the movies at the same exact frame(or as close as possible) and switched back and forth. The PS3 was a very small fraction better but once I pushed play the PS3 became much better, especially in 3D. I experience zero crosstalk with the PS3 but a decent amount with the Oppo. I will try it tomorrow and use HDMI out 2 to see if bypassing Marvell will help. If not, it's back to Oppo.
  5. I can't speak for altitude but I can speak for temperature. I have always has subs in all of my vehicles. I love loud bass and lots of it! The hotter and sunnier the day the louder and more effortless the bass is and the colder the day is is the opposite. The same exact song can sound horrible on a 20 degree day in winter and sound absolutely phenomenal on a 90 degree day in the summer. One of my favorite parts of Spring and Summer coming is how much better and louder the bass will sound in my vehicle. Now I don't know if the temperature actually affects the sound itself or just makes a difference on the tightness or looseness of the woofers and their surround. Either way the difference is ten fold.
  6. The more money I can save, the more I have to spend on my THX setup, but at the same time, I'm in no major hurry and don't want to sacrifice better sound for just a few dollars.
  7. I currently have a UPA-2 and a UPA-5 both used but in excellent shape. I originally bought these to power a Klipsch RF-7II setup. I recently sold the Reference speakers and am piecing together a Klipsch Thx Ultra 2 7.1 setup. The sensitivity on these speakers are 97db and 96db. I happened to stumble across a great deal on a brand new still sealed in box pair of UPA-1s. As I see it I have four options. I would appreciate any input from people with experience with any of these options. 1. Sell the UPA-1s, keep the UPA-2 and UPA-5 and put some of the money towards speakers. 2. Sell the UPA-2, use the monos for L & R and use UPA-5 for center and surrounds. 3. Sell the UPA-2 and UPA-5, use the monos for L & R, buy XPA-5 and use for center and surrounds. 4. Sell the UPA-5, buy another UPA-1 for LCR and buy another UPA-2 for surrounds. See why I am driving myself crazy!
  8. I am definitely sending it back. I am just not sure if I want to try another one or just move on to another player. If it is just a defective player and I could get another one and it not have the same issues I would be happy. At the same time, if I can save $300 or so and get the same or better picture quality I would definitely rather do that. The unit seems to be built like a tank which I like, and from what I've read these things last forever. That's why I bought it in the first place. I unhooked it completely when I got my UMC-200 and Samsung refurb the other day. I wonder if it is worth hooking it up through the UMC-200 and not run my Directv through it so I can use the other HDMI. I might give that a try tomorrow as a last resort before sending it back. If I am not running the Directv through it and I will probably never play a standard DVD on the player then it shouldn't matter which HDMI out I use since I will not need to upconvert anything with the Marvel processing. Maybe that will help, worth a try at least.
  9. When I was using it I removed the UMC-1 from the equation completely and just used the Oppo as my pre amp
  10. I have checked all of those settings and my projector isn't old, it is Epson's flagship model from last year.
  11. I'm not sure what the deal is with the Oppo, but I am leaning towards another LG or Sony I think.
  12. I did and they said that I shouldn't expect it to look any better than any blu ray player and that the PS3 should actually look better on animated material because of the different type of processing.
  13. I'm using it with an Epson 6010 projector on a 120" screen
  14. I have been using my PS3 for my blu rays since my LG player died a little while back. My PS3 is now on it's last leg and the fan is so loud that I think the neighbors hear it sometimes. I have thought about just getting another PS3 but don't want to buy one with the new PS4 coming out by the end of the year. Plus, my LG player had better picture quality anyway. My thoughts were any decent blu ray player will have a better picture the sony, but now I'm not so sure. So I ordered the Oppo BDP-103 a couple of weeks ago thinking it would be the greatest thing ever just to find out how wrong I was. The picture quality isn't even as good as my son's $40 LG player we bought at Walmart's Black Friday sale. Motion looks very slurred and weird on it. For instance, anything with words on it in a moving picture you can't even read. I have horrible crosstalk on 3D. I have done A/B comparisons to my PS3, my son's el cheapo player and the Oppo loses every time. The Oppo hass amazing sound quality and it looks nice in my signature and sitting my shelf but that is about it. The other day I ordered a refurbished $300 Samsung 3D player for $60 dollars which got great reviews so I thought that would work. I hooked it up yesterday and in the set up menu where you put in the size of your screen for the 3D only has room for two digits so 99" was the largest I could use even though my screen is 120". That didn't matter anyway though because when I put in a 3D blu ray the player said the my display didn't support 3D even though it does and no setting that I could change would let me play 3D. All I need is a 3D player with good picture quality, good sound quality, and one that doesn't screw up the 3D image without spending a million dollars. I have spent hours reading reviews on players and I can't figure out which one to buy. Any help please!!
  15. I was having a very hard time deciding whether to keep my 103 or not and then I did the firmware update and the player is 10 times worse than before. The A/V sync varies now from slightly off to so far off that the people's mouths are moving 2 to 3 words before or after the sound comes out. Also, the picture starts pausing and skipping every few frames. It even causes my HD-DVR to automatically display everything in 480p and the DVR won't let me change the resolution on the remote so every time we change the channel or start a new show on the list I have to walk over to the unit and change the resolution manually. Very frustrating!
  16. How does this work? Do you need any kind of external piece or any subscription? I have never used HD radio before but am interested.
  17. I call dibs on the THX Ultra 2 stuff!
  18. I know, they are very nice. I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to let them go to fund more speakers or keep them. Sometimes this hobby makes my head hurt.[]
  19. I have a pair of Emotiva UPA-1 monoblock amps still in the boxes, still sealed with 4 years left on the transferable warranty!! These might be the last ones you will ever see that are new. These are built like the XPA line inside and are 200 watts at 8 ohms and 385 watts at 4 ohms. Dollar for dollar these are the best amps Emotiva ever made. The price is $650 for the pair and that includes shipping and paypal fees. Of course these are still in Emotiva's double boxes and I will put them together in a custom made heavy duty double wall box for extra extra protection and they will be fully insured. Or you can do local pick up in Urbana Ohio 43078 for $600 cash. The last pair of these sold on ebay for $685 and were 3 years old with no warranty. Don't let this chance to own two brand new UPA-1s pass you by.
  20. Do you accept paypal and does the price include shipping? LOL Those are some really sweet rides!
  21. You are just responsible for the shipping to Emotiva.
  22. Emotiva has nothing to do with the sale or any funds. They simply give everything a once over and once they are done they ship to the buyer instead of shipping back to you. Since they would be shipping it back to you for free anyway, they do not charge to ship to the buyer. At least that's what I understood from the tech that I talked to on the phone.
