  1. Hey welcome to the forum. You should be fine. I was in a similar situation. I just got a pair of RB-61 II speakers and was ironically also using a Polk center. I found a RC-35 for a great price and couldn't pass it up. Well when I got everything matched up it worked out really well. I would be hard pressed to say there would be a huge difference in the sound by matching the speakers from the same generation. At least not for nearly double the price. The RC -7 is a lot more sensitive than the Polk so you will have to readjust your speaker levels but it should match fairly well with the 82s. If for some reason you don't like the sound then you can always put the 7 on ebay and probably get back what you put into it if not more. The RC 7 is still a pretty sought after speaker. The Rs-7s should work fine for the rears. I don't see any problems with that setup. Especially if you get them at a great price as well. Hope that helps
  2. Awww hey don't tease me with a mention of pics. I don't see them! [] Can't wait until they're approved. And I'm glad you're happy. And its an added bonus that they actually sound better than at the shop! Did you have a hard time lifting them? Do you prefer the grill on or grill off look since its not a full grill? And wow you just made a liar of me. When I originally posted the pics weren't up. I see getting the 7s wasn't enough. You had to prove me wrong too! LOL
  3. Wow you definitely have self control.....and your apartment has to be a decent size. Because all of those speakers are monsters. But I'm worried. Once you spend some time with those speakers and find the sweet spot and perfect settings you will probably end up turning that volume up little by little. Especially if you put in that perfect action movie like Iron Man or Spiderman or War of the Worlds etc......maybe you can bribe your neighbors? [] Nonetheless congrats on your purchase. I look forward to hearing your impressions after you've spent some quality time with them.
  4. Hey I just thought I would give my opinion on the different sounds of the Reference series speakers from generations III, IV and V. I just purchased a pair of RB-25 speakers earlier this week for $116 and they finally arrived yesterday. I got them in cherry and I must say the cherry has impressed me. I really didn't think I would like it and I didn't think it would match with my black equipment but it actually blends in quite nicely. When I get my set of Klipsch speakers I may have to get them in cherry as well. I guess I'll start with my impressions of the RB-25s The first thing I noticed is the fact that they are a little smaller than the RB-61 II speakers. They aren't quite as wide or deep. Don't get me wrong they are still pretty big for the bookshelf class of speakers but with them being thinner they actually look tall and thin....so they aren't as imposing as the Gen V 61s. Once I got them hooked up I immediately turned on some music and put my receiver in 2 Ch mode. The first thing I noticed was the shrill upper range. I finally experienced first hand what the heck everyone meant when they said the sound was more in your face. It is. I can't turn up the 25s quite as loud as my 61s because some sounds end up hurting my ears. Seems like I would hate them right? Wrong. Even though the upper end is a little shrill they still have the dynamics and detail Klipsch is known for. Also for some reason the sound stage seems wider. The piano playing in the background or the effects of a sound effect going off the screen to the left or right all seemed to come about 18 to 24 inches to the left or right of the respective speaker. (yes my surrounds were unhooked when I tested surrounf sound) The blending of the upper and lower range was decent. Of course these speakers are easy to drive and can easily fill a room with sound. Thats something else that impressed me. They sound way bigger than they actually are. If you were to put someone in the dark listening to these they would probably think they were listening to some decent sized speakers. Maybe even some floorstanders. I just noticed one thing. I guess the main reason the speakers aren't quite as wide as the newer bookshelves is because of the horn design. The horn is slimmer on the 25s. Maybe that accounts for the perceived harshness? Would I still recommend these speakers? Yes, just not at high volumes unless you tone down the treble a little using your receiver or if you do turn them up then sit outside of the sweet spot if possible. Of course when I moved around the horns weren't quite as shrill. But once I hit the sweet spot I had to hit the volume a little. Perfect for the bedroom because the boss hates noise anyway so the speakers will automatically keep me in check. But the in your faceness of these speakers is also an advantage. Violins, saxaphones, etc all seem more pronounced. They had more weight.....more of a "there" factor.....more so like someone was playing live a couple of feet in front of you. That effect is most noticable with classical but jazz also had the same effect. Techno also sounds pretty good on these speakers will the high paced beats and all of the subtle and not so subtle effects etc. Everything had more prescence with these speakers. In movies the sound effects were very crisp. Very detailed. Certain things such as glass breaking can border on being too bright but once again mainly at higher volumes. At lower volumes the speaker seemed more balanced. More laid back. At higher volumes the tweeter jumps to the front of the pack. It becomes more aggressive as though its trying to outshine the other ranges of sound. That effect comes across great in movies and decently in music. The 4th generation speakers seem to impress me the least out of the 3 gens I listened to. Don't get me wrong, they are still some good speakers. The speakers I got to play around with are the RF-62s. The thing I noticed right away is the lack of shrillness. The upper range is still pronounced.....just not as much as gen 3. I could turn those speakers up without hurting my ears. The crossover seems a little better. everything seems to blend a little better. I guess part of the reason is because the edge the tweeter had is gone. Not as agressive at higher volumes. It sounded similar to the way the highs sounded on the 25s at lower volumes. But on the 62s it just never quite jumped out at me. It wasn't trying to be the head of the pack it seems.....it seems it wanted to blend in more. The sound stage seemed to be about 12 to 18 inches to the right or left of the respective speakers. Didn't seem to be quite as wide as the 25s ironically. But it was still a joy to watch movies and listen to muisc on the speakers. I'm pretty sure the 4th gen 61s would have very similar sound to the 62s. Nonetheless the signature Klipsch sound is there just not as pronounced as the previous generation. The 5th generation speakers are my favorite sounding ones but the 3rd generation is a very close second. The reason I love this generation so much is because everything seemed to come together just right. The crossover blends everything just right. The upper and lower ranges come together in perfect harmony it seems. These speakers are the warmest of the 3. The signature sound is still there. They're still very sensitive. But I can crank these babies and still beg for more. They don't hurt my ears and they bring the instruments and the performances etc right into my room. But instead of being a couple of feet away from the saxaphone or the violin etc you seem to be about 20 to 40 feet away from them. You still have good seats but it isn't as in your face as gen 3. For some reason the sound stage doesn't seem as wide on these either. About a foot on each side of the repective speaker but with the way everything blends and the way these speakers bring out details and sound effects etc I can't complain. If thats a side effect of getting that blended warmer sound then so be it. I'll happily take it. The crazy thing is these speakers seem more detailed than the gen 3 and 4 speakers but it does it without increasing the harshness or shrillness of the upper end. It actually does the opposite and decreses the shrillness. Pretty impressive. These speakers also seem to do the best job of surrounding me in 2 ch mode. Even though the stage is smaller it envelopes me more....if that makes sense. Its a joy listening to music and watching movies with these speakers. These are also the ones I turn up the most. I love cranking them as they also sound bigger than their actual size and easily fill the room with great sound. Which sound do I like best? I am a new school guy. I like the new sound better but the gen 3 sound is a very close second. gen 3 has great detail but a little harshness at times. It has the widest sound stage and looks smaller than its size. Gen 5 has great detail as well with the smoother blending and lack of harshness. They also have that buff intimidating look to them which I like as well. Big but sexy. Gen 4 speakers are good as well. They sound good but they just didn't have a unique factor to them. Nonetheless they are still great speakers to own. If I find the room I may even get a pair of RF-82s to use somewhere. But I am most impressed with Gen 5. Great job Klipsch. I hope this helps anyone curious about the different gens or anyone in the market for used speakers wondering what gen to get or wondering about the differences in sound in them. I'm about to go listen to some jazz on the 25s.......
  5. [Y][Y] Congrats!! I know you're going to love them especially since you loved them in the store. Be sure to give us your impressions once you get them set up in your system and have had a chance to break them in a little. And don't forget to tell us what you have powering those beasts. And post some unboxing pics too! Alright thats all the requests I have now, lol. Enjoy your speakers! Your home theater just got a pretty awesome upgrade! What finish did you get?
  6. So they're not carrying any Klipsch speakers in Magnolia or did they just stop carrying the icon series? I know the one here used to carry the Reference series but I haven't been in a Magnolia store in so long I don't know what they carry anymore. It is odd though if it was selling as good as the employee said....unless it wasn't selling that good everywhere else? Hopefully they didn't pull ALL of their speakers from magnolia and if they did hopefully its only a temporary thing. I just checked bestbuy.com and they don't even have a huge selection of Klipsch speakers online anymore. They have a couple of Icon bookshelf and a couple of Icon floorstanders, 1 Icon center and 1 RC-52 center which says available in store only. The RC-52 is the only speaker that bears the Magnolia name though so maybe the Icons were selling so well that they decided to move them to the regular audio rooms in the non-Magnolia best buys since the Magnolias are sorta rare anyway since they're strictly high end.....
  7. I'm an Onkyo fan and I see you mentioned the 706......well the updated model is the 708. Onkyo makes great receivers as well and they use Audessey which does a great job at setting up your speakers for you. The 708 is on Amazon for a great price. $549!!! Thats a great deal. here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N197CU/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk
  8. Hey guys. I have a quick question. I just got a great deal on a pair of cherry RB-25 bookshelf speakers on ebay (at least i thought it was a good deal.correct me if i'm wrong) They were $116 and they're in excellent shape. I couldn't pass up what I thought was a great deal. Considering these are very similar to the 61s. They should be getting here by week's end hopefully but now I don't know what to do with them. I thought about using them in the mancave system which would be finished once I got a new pair of surrounds or using them in the bedroom where I moved my old Sony bookshelf speakers as mains for a 5.1 system. Here's what each system comsists of: Mancave has 2 RB 61 II speakers 1 RC 35 center 1 Klipsch Sub 10 1 Onkyo SR507 Receiver Now I was planning on getting a pair of RS 52 speakers for my surrounds but I know a lot of people like using bookshelf speakers as their surrounds as well. Right now I have a cheap pair of surrounds that came with the HTiB that I upgraded. They don't sound bad but I definitely like the sound of the RS series better. But then again I haven't heard a "good" bookshelf speaker being used as a surround so I may end up liking the directional sound better but I'm not sure. In the bedroom I have 2 Sony Bookshelf speakers 1 Polk Center 1 Klipsch Sub 10 For this room I was planning on putting the 507 in here once I upgraded the receiver in the cave. I also have another pair of Sony bookshelf speakers brand new in the box that i was planning on using as surrounds. What I can do is replace the Sony mains with the 25s and move the Sony speakers to surround duty but then I'll have 2 extra Sony speakers. I would try a 7.1 system but the Onkyo is only 5.1. (unless I get a small amp. It has preouts for 7.1) So I guess the question is what would you guys do? Use the 25s as surround speakers or put them in the room as mains with the polk center. Klipsch and Polk match up fairly well so I wouldn't be disappointed with them being used as mains but so does Sony and Polk. Now I know you guys will say just hook up the 25s as surrounds and let my ears make the decision but the problem with that is this. My current cheap surrounds are mounted on the wall. They are small and light so all it took was a small nail in the wall. The 25s don't have a keyhole and even if they did I would have to drill a hole and put an anchor in the wall. I don't have any room for speaker stands so I would have to mount a shelf for each speaker. I can do that but I really don't want to go through all of that trouble just to end up not liking the sound. Plus I'm trying to put as few holes as possible in the wall bc we are going to move eventually (once we find a house. We're ready to own instead of renting) and the shelf thing won't help my cause there. At least with the RS speakers I can just drill 1 hole for an anchor for each speaker instead of at least 3 or more holes for the shelf. Also do you guys think velcro will work? I know it sounds crazy but I actually thought about getting some industrial velcro and attaching it to the wall and the shelf mounting brackets. Do you think that will hold? That will prevent me from making unnecassary holes. But I don't want the speakers to come crashing down either. So right now I'm leaning towards using them in the bedroom as mains. I know they'll make a great front stage and I'm sure I'll enjoy music etc on them. Plus I'll get to experience that "in your face" sound as well. Of course the cave won't be finished bc I'll still have to buy some surrounds. Why not use the Sony's as surrounds in the cave? Because I have the same dilemma as with the Klipsch. No keyhole so I would have to mount a shelf........now the advantage of using the 25s as surrounds is the fact that I can kill 2 birds with one stone. Finish my bedroom and mancave system at the same time. Just in time for the holidays. (minus the receiver which isn't something i need. its just a want since the 507 is doing an outstanding job) But with me liking the sound of the RS speakers I have a feeling imma always have that "what if" mentality. "What if I get the surrounds? Will it sound better? Is this the best sound that I'm getting?" And of course it may end up hurting me in the long run bc I may still end up upgrading the the RS speakers. And I'll have 2 extra Sony speakers to find a use for. So thats my dilemma. What would you guys do? As I said I'm leaning towards using them as mains......thanks for you opinions!
  9. Just a side note he used extremeliquidator.com. Not sure if audiophile liquidator would do the same thing or not. Best way to find out is to just email the site and ask.
  10. Hey I looked into these sites and I know someone who has used them before. I didn't use them because once they added shipping and handling the total price jumped up about $70 which only put the speakers I was looking at about $100 cheaper than buying "authorized" which wasn't a big enough savings for me. To check the shipping to your house just add the item to your cart. It should allow you to calculate shipping. Now my buddy that ordered a set of speakers from them said that they are not authorized Klipsch dealers so your speakers will not have serials on them. The serials and UPCs had been cut from the box he said. (I heard this is a common practice for some unauthorized sellers on ebay too to prevent you from registering with Klipsch. Usually that only happens if you buy the speakers brand new in the box. Not saying all unauthorized bulk sellers do that. The best way to find out is to just ask. Of course the authorized ebay sellers keep everything intact) So I was glad I didn't order from them bc speakers missing the serials might hurt the resale value later, lol. Not that i ever plan on selling my speakers. But just wanted to give the heads up. They were true to their word tho. Brand new in the box with all of the paperwork etc just no serials. He said shipping took about 2 weeks. So they are legit but with them not being authorized sellers you have to weigh your options. If the money saved is worth not being able to register and/or get warranty service then I say go for it. If not then buy authorized and pay full price.
  11. Yes thats pretty impressive cable organization. I think you convinced me to get a rack when I build my second system. I was looking at the AVRak stuff since they're already assembled. I probably won't be able to do built in. Will probably have to do a stand alone rack but thats one thing thats a feature. Built in cable runs so you can organize everything. Having everything organized has to make life a lot easier for you and for the equipment. I know airflow behind all of that stuff is great.
  12. Ahh Youthman you're buying the XPA for folks? Put me on that list. I want one. (since you got my hopes up and then crushed them)
  13. Hey welcome to the forum. Something to keep in mind are these systems: http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Speakers-F-2-Theater-System-6-speakers-synergy-/310177525558?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item4838056f36 http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Speakers-F-3-Theater-System-6-speakers-synergy-/140331861868?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item20ac6e476c http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-RF-42-II-Home-Theater-System-Brand-New-Black-/390243388049?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item5adc518a91 The first two systems are synergy series systems and the final one is a Reference system. The F-3 system is the better deal in my opinion but as the others have said you can get some great deals on that stuff used if you keep looking around. Now I know you said the $1500 included everything but I'm counting on the fact that you will find some deals on some components. You can find some good deals on Onkyo receivers used (and even new. Last years models are getting pretty cheap) but with Onkyo its a love hate relationship. Some hate them with Klipsch. Some love them. I love them with Klipsch. But Marnatz is also a good brand. Haven't personally heard them but I have heard great things about the combination with Klipsch. Have you checked the Garage Sale area of this forum yet? I've come across some good deals over the last couple of weeks I would have jumped on if I would've had the money. I would go with the Reference series if possible unless you just find a deal thats too good to be true on the Synergy series. Synergies are no slouches but me personally I can tell a difference between the two series but you may not be able to. Some people say they sound the same. Hope I gave you some more ideas on what to look at. Also as far as the sub goes I have heard of Bic America but I can't really comment on them because I don't have any experience with them. I like SVS and Velodyne. SVS is having a closeout on a couple of their subs http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm And Velodyne has the Impact 10 entry sub for $299 http://www.velodyne.com/vproducts/series.aspx?seriesid=1221 As far as front or down firing I don't know which is better. The front firing Klipsch subs sound tighter and more acurate than my down firing Klipsch sub BUT I was comparing two different lines. The Synergy subs and Reference subs so that probably has a lot to do with it. They both sound good to me though. All I can say is listen to both and decide from there. All of the high end subs seem to mainly be front firing. Don't know if that means anything or not......
  14. Thats great. Glad you're enjoying the new room and I'm glad everything is blending well because that helps with WAF. Wow those speakers have been through a lot. I haven't had a lightning strike yet (knock on wood) luckily but I got a pretty good Battery Backup hooked up to everything so hopefully the surge stops there. I got it just in time because over the summer (with it being hotter than usual I guess) we had a lot of brownouts and quick power outages which never happens in my area. Well the brownouts eventually killed my cousin's tv (he was staying with is at the time) well all of my equipment in the diffrent rooms carried on. It was great hearing that click.....it let me know the APC was doing its job. But Klipsch speakers do seem to last a lifetime. Because a lot of people on this forum still have their speakers from like the 70s....I will hopefully be able to speak on longevity in a few years. The oldest Klipsch I have is like a year old. The other ones are only 1 month old. I wish you could've gotten the receiver on video. I know that would have been a very interesting thing to see. Luckily no one was hurt and thank goodness it didn't start a fire. Nonetheless continue to enjoy your speakers and like I said in my last post don't be afraid to experiment with settings and positioning. I was lazy when I first got my speakers and just sorta threw them together but when I actually spent time aiming them etc the results were astounding. Now I'm in Klipsch nirvana, lol. Enjoy your setup and welcome to the forum!
  15. Yes I think this is ideal. Because it lets your speakers focus on the upper range and clarity while letting the sub do all of the low end heavy lifting. Now the F1s actually say they support frequencies down to 38hz so you can experiment with the filter if you want to and see how the system sounds with it set to 60hz. You will get a little more bass from your F1s. You may or may not like the sound. It depends on how well the F1s handle the lower frequencies. The recommended setting is 80hz but use what sounds best to you. Some people like it set to 60hz. Others like it at 80hz and others like it set to something totally diffferent. I personally like 80hz. Feel free to experiment because once you find the best sound you shouldn't have to mess with the settings again. Unless you change some components.....Also don't forget to space your speakers out if possible and toe them in towards your listening position. Once you find the positioning that sounds best then rerun the setup with the mic....then mess around with the low pass filter settings etc to get it sounding perfect to you.
  16. Dang seriously? I'm leaning towards the second option. The buyer is probably immediately flipping them.....but its possible the buyer could've been talked out of the super low price by a "helpful friend" that told him to list on eBay. You never know. Man I need to move. We never have Klipsch deals on our Craigslist. All my deals have to come from Amazon or eBay. Nonetheless if the buyer is flipping them then he is about to make a really really really good profit on those speakers. I'm suprised you haven't found some cherry speakers for a great price already (other than those on Craiglist) at one point thats all I was seeing on eBay. Companies trying to get rid of their cherry speaker stock for cheap prices since its the least popular option compared to all black. Keep looking though. You will probably come across a nice set sooner than later.
  17. Wow did you jump on that deal? Even if I don't have anywhere to put them right now I try to jump on Klipsch speaker deals. At the very worst I can put them on eBay or give them to a family member.
  18. Yeah there's another pair on ebay for sale right now. They have the cherry finish. They're at $295 with $45 shipping and a little over a day left on the auction......I'm not sure if you just wanted the older bookshelves for the sound but I went ahead and priced the old 81s.....I didn't see any used ones but the cheapest new pair i saw new was $685. And Audiogon doesn't have any. Unfortunately for the bigger bookshelf speakers you are going to pay out the wazoo for them. As Youthman said just be patient and keep looking for deals.
  19. Yeah it would work if there was a way to stream Pandora from your computer to the BD player....bypassing the built in Pandora App but I don't know of a way to do that[:S] but hopefully they will get enough requests for it....that way they will actually look into it more. But for right now the only way to get high quality Pandora on your home theater is to use a home theater pc....or hook up a pc to your sound system temporarily.....but hey if we all keep sending them emails requesting that feature then they may add it sooner than later.....
  20. Well guys unfortunately Pandora only supports high quality streams on the computer right now, Here is what I pulled from the website: High Quality 192Kbps audio, one of the highest-quality streaming music bitrates available, for each and every song in our collection, when you listen to: Pandora on your computer via our website and the Mini Tuner, or via the Pandora One Desktop Application. Pandora mobile apps and in-home devices currently do not support High Quality 192Kbps streams, although we're very interested in expanding High Quality audio options at some point in the future. I put the key point in bold and italics. For some reason you can only get high quality streams on your computer. Everything else doesn't support that yet. I guess there is a small hope that one day they will expand to home devices since they're "interested" in doing so. I only listen to Pandora on my phone and Roku box so that sucks. I guess the main benefit then would be no hour limit and no commercials if you don't want to listen on your computer. Hope that helped Dtel. Also what do you have your blu ray settings set to? Do you have it set to Bitstream for audio? Also is Dynamic Sampling turned off. Those are the settings I have and I don't have the volume problems. I'm going to change it to PCM and see what results I get once I get off of work.
  21. I'm not sure how to make the sweet spot bigger. Have you checked the Pioneer support site? Also if possible I would play around with the positioning of the front speakers. Their distance and toe in position. That will probably affect the sweet spot the most. Also to me I find that music sounds better in 2 channel mode but just like GotHover said just use whatever sounds best to you. I'm sure that receiver has some music surround modes like Prologic or DTS. The one that sounds best to me is Unplugged but thats on an Onkyo......its probably called something different on the Pioneer. Some people use All Ch St so be sure to check that out as well.
  22. Oh ok thats a good idea. Make sure you take some pics of the setup once you finish and get it setup.....and I know what you mean. Every hobby is expensive nowadays. I play a few console games and that gets expensive and now I'm getting into the hobby of R/C Helicopters and that can actually get expensive too. From buying repair parts to just upgrading your copter in general or buying a "better" copter or customizing it etc. Depending on the size one copter can easily reach the $1500 or higher mark.......so I guess a cheap hobby now is just sitting at home reading books on a kindle or doing crossword puzzles [:S] not that there's anything wrong with doing either (i'm getting a kindle bc the books are generally cheaper than print which they should be lol.....but the boss has one and I love hers) but nonetheless I think my next hobby is going to be construction. When we move I want to convert a room into a home theater (thats in addition to the setup up front) and after reading alot of tips and looking at the pics on this forum of other people building their own home theater I think I can do it. But back to the topic on hand are you going to make a little hole for the sub cable and power cable to feed through the fake wall or are you just gonna run the cable around the side? Or under the wall?
  23. Yeah usually out of the box the settings are bright to help the tv look better under the bright store lights. Thats awesome. Well I know you're going to enjoy that tv. I know I would. Great job on the settings. And the viewing angle is insane! Very impressive tv for sure. I'll def have to consider the Quattron now
  24. Wow those pictures look amazing! Is that a calibrated picture or are you using the out of the box settings? If the pic isn't calibrated then it will look even better once you do that using a calibration disc such as Avia II or Spears and Munsil (which is on blu ray. Avia is on DVD) Don't get me wrong the picture looks great as is but if it isn't calibrated then you're not getting the best picture and I see that TV has some amazing capabilities in it. I've never honestly been a Sharp fan....I'm a Samsung guy with Sony coming in a close second but with the new generation Quattron TVs looking this good I will probably have to consider them when I start looking for another TV. Is the TV LED backlit? Do you know if it's edge lit? I know you said you're a plasma guy so I have to ask. Forgive me if you've already stated this but would you rate the blacks on this tv as being "plasma black" or fairly close to it?
