  1. The sub will make a difference but it will definitely rumble even more..you can adjust the levels on it of course. I've had RF-82s and the RF-7 IIs as just standalone speakers which had really good bass but a 10" sub definitely added more ooomph for movies. It helped music too but I noticed the biggest change with movies. I would try the 10" sub and see if you like it.
  2. How much for the set? How much for the 82s? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I would go with option 2 with the smaller sub. You can always add a second sub later. I have a theater setup in a bonus room and also sit about 16 feet back. I started off with bookshelf speakers that sounded pretty good..then got some rf-25s (early version of the 260. 6" woofers) that were a nice jump. But I didn't really get that impact and soundstage I wanted until I got up to the rf82s and I eventually swapped those for the rf-7 ii. I started off with a sub 10 and eventually got a couple of klipsch reference 12" subs. I would go with the 260s and see how they suit you. Worst case scenario you can always resell them or move them to surround duty if you ever upgrade in the future. (I have my 82s doing surround duty for my 7s.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Are these still available? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I have to go with the RF-7 II as well. I definitely love the wood veneer look more but I understand why Klipsch went away from it with the III. It basically makes the 7 look like a bigger version of the other speakers. Look consistency in the line. I'm actually torn over the feet. I like the feet on the II but for some reason it seems like the feet in the reference premier line are more subdued and exude a little more elegance. Idk maybe that's just me. I am very curious to hear the new 7s tho. I still own my 7 IIs and still love them. Maybe I'll be able to catch another pair on sale when they get ready to close them out. Then I can replace my RF-82 rears and have 7s all the way around (other than my center). Is there a release date for the IIIs yet? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Wow! Very happy to see this thread still going strong! I chimed in 5 years ago when I got my 7s...and as you can see I haven't had any activity on this forum since then. LOL! I still love my system and it still impresses anyone that comes over. I may eventually go Heritage but the 7s are still sounding great and making me smile from ear to ear whenever I buy a new Blu-Ray. I do want to upgrade soon though. To a 4k projector to replace my current one, a receiver capable of decoding Dolby Atmos and adding 4 of the Klipsch Atmos speakers and upgrading to a borderless screen. Of course none of those are necessities but I love the look of the borderless screens and of course Atmos has impressed me at my local theater. I really hate that the theaters make us choose. 3d OR Atmos. Not both. Of course I choose the sound everytime but I love 3d as well and have the setup at home for it already. Nonetheless new owners and potential new owners. If you're wondering if you made the right decision or wondering if you should pull the trigger then stop thinking about it. These speakers are totally worth it and will satisfy you for a very long time. They may even make you go on a 5 year hiatus like me! Lol. Spend the time and money getting it perfect now and you won't have to worry about it for years and years. Your hearing will give out well before these speakers do! Lol enjoy your setups everyone!
  7. The soundstage on your 82s wil open up more as time goes on....I have to agree about the 7s....a lot of people were shocked when I said the 7s blew away my 82s....they do...sound is bigger...dynamics are better...soundstage is wide....they just do it all so effortlessly. Paired with the 82s as surrounds you will be in home theater heaven.
  8. I do't see anything wrong with the 82s as the back four if you have the room. As others have said having a matched setup all the way arund is great....But the RF-7 ii with 82s rear sounds great as wel which is the setup I have.....As far as the subs I would definitely get what was in your budget as long as it involved two subs....I know only one was recomended but IMO having two makes it so much easier to get smooth even bass throughout the entire room.
  9. I would experiment and see what sounds best to you....since you have a good amp I would set the RF-7 IIs to full range and RC-64 II to 60hz.....Try that then set it back to 80hz.....listen to some music and watch your favorite scene in a movie to see which sounds better to you....For me running the 7s full range sounded way better but your results may vary....experimentation will be your best friend
  10. No affiliation....was browsing on Audiogon and a guy has a pair of Klipschorns with sequential serial numbers for $1800. Says that they are part of an estate he is settling.....this is a great deal. From the ad: Item Description Pair Oak Klipsch Klipschorn speakers in great condition... sound great no issues.. These are priced to sell as they are part of an estate that I am settling.... feel free to give me a call 509 nine nine five one three three seven.. http://app.audiogon.com/listings/full-range-klipsch-klipschorn-estate-liquidation-sequential-s-no-disappointments-2013-08-02-speakers-99205
  11. The Epsons are good but depending on what you consider "budget" they may be out of your price range. Optoma makes some good budget projectors that you can find on ebay pretty cheap used. HD65, HD20, HD66 just to name a few. I think for the distance and screen size those should work but check out the distance calculator on www.projectioncentral.com to know for sure. Also sometimes you can get projectors with burned out bulbs for next to nothing and buy the bulb for less than $100 which is a heck of a deal for a projector. Browse ebay and amazon. Good luck with finding a replacement
  12. You're not willing to ship any of the posters?
  13. As another happy RF-7II owner I have to say I don't think the speakers will be too bright. I am running my speakers using a Harmon receiver and Integra amp and it sounds amazing. Now when I had my cheapo HTiB receiver they sounded really bright but once I put my Onkyo up there temporarily and when I put the Harman up there things flattened out. But to me they don't sound any brighter than any of the other klipsch speakers I have. They do have more of a presence so they're more in your face but I wouldn't call them brighter per se.....But time really helps them out a lot...As I play my speakers more and more they seem to be coming into their own more and more. But as others have suggested the 83s are really good. I would even go so far as to suggest the 82s as well....But I feel like that any Klipsch speaker improperly setup is going to sound bright because the horn can be unforgiving. Just be sure to run the auto setup on the receiver and double check everything with an accurate SPL meter and you should be fine
  14. Lmao no it doesn't...but then again it doesn't need it....Its so much louder than normal....so if the person isn't right next to you I doubt you would hear them. Nonetheless I haven't really had too many problems with noisy moviegoers....but then again this theater I went to asks for ID after 6. No one under 18 allowed to see a R Rated movie after that time. That eliminated a lot of the rowdy crowd. True you still have the fresh out of high school and over 18 crowd but I don't hesitate to call security in there if the folks just won't shut up. I've only had to do hat twice....one it worked..once it didn't so I emailed corporate and they sent me free tickets and really upped security there. At $11 a ticket I'm not afraid to complain and use my resources....$11 a ticket plus however much I spend in their wine bar area drinking glasses of wine and making sundaes. That's too much money for me to be unhappy....So if someone won't shut up don't be afraid to use your resources...Theaters want us there and happy....they want our money...so let your dis pleasures be known. But enough on that I still haven't seen Star Trek either.....it's still at that same theater...even though its available in Atmos they are not showing it in Atmos. Man of Steel is the first and only one thus far but I'm sure there will be more. I know that new Wolverine movie is supposed to have Atmos mixing in addition to numerous other movies coming out this summer. I really don't want to watch any more movies without it, lol.
  15. So I went to the movies last night to check out Man of Steel and was surprised to see that my theater had the new Dolby Atmos system installed. Unfortunately you have to choose what you want. 3d OR great sound or neither. lol. All in all I was impressed with the presentation. Basically Dolby Atmos is a scalable system that uses position based sound and processing instead channel processing. So instead of saying "Hey I need this sound to come from the right rear channel" the sound engineer instead says "hey I need the sound to come from this area" and the processor uses what it has to get the sound to come from that area depending on how many speakers you have. Its scalable up to 64 speakers. I remember when AVS did a huge writeup on it last year when the Kodak Theater became the Dolby Theater.....that was where the very first Atmos system was installed. They were very excited about the technology. So was I but I figured I wouldn't hear it because it is a hefty investment.....Boy am I glad I was proved wrong.... When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the addition of a ton of speakers. There were 2 rows of speakers installed on the ceiling from front to back....the side walls had added more speakers in addition to the ones behind the screen. Unfortunately my date was late so I missed the previews that flexed the muscles of the system (women don't understand our fascination with new sound tech, lol) but all I can say is wow while watching the movie....It was definitely more immersive......Our favorite speakers led the charge (Klipsch) Sound came from all around me....even overhead and it wasn't gimmicky at all! It all fit in very well with the movie. The sound at the movies hasn't brought a smile to my face in awhile (since Klipsch home theaters seem pretty comparable in sound) but I was giddy and had a huge smile the entire movie. I was more focused on the sound than the movie so I'll have to go back and actually focus on the movie. Lol. But on a serious note it all worked together extemely well. I will go check out any movie that has Atmos from now on. Only complaint is the fact that I think the sound was turned up an extra 20dbs. You definitely shouldn't sit in the first row! DTS is working on their own version of this position based processing. The cool thing about them is the fact that they want to bring the technology to homes. A similar scalable system that works with what you have and doesn't process based on a channel per se but a position. I would jump at the chance to have this tech at home! I don't know how I would install speakers on my ceiling though, lol. But the DTS guy in the article was saying imagine having a 11.1 or even 15.1 system.....sounds pretty amazing but I can only imagine the nightmare of wires etc you will have hooking up all of those speakers not to mention the WAF. Lol. The main key though is the fact that since sound is not defined per channel the folks that don't have typical setups won't be left out anymore. Since the processor will adjust accordingly. Right when I thought I was done upgrading for a lifetime this stuff hits the press. lol. I'm still not sold on 4k but this new sound processing I'm really digging. Can't wait until it makes it to the household. For anyone in the mid south the theater that has Atmos is the Malco Paradiso....its the only one in our area that has it....or at least the only one advertising it. I haven't seen any other theater say that they have it yet. So if you guys have an Atmos theater near you...check it out! Its worth it....As I said though unfortunately (at least here) you have to choose....new upgraded sound....or 3d....can't get them together yet. Which is good I guess because my head probably would have exploded from excitement with both together. All in all I think this a win for everyone. A win for us the enthusiasts because it gives us a reason to leave our great home setups and actually go to the movies. Its a win for the theaters because the ones that have it will drag people like me there where I'll be stupid and come hungry and end up spending $40 on food and wine, lol. And its a win for Klipsch....because they are selling even more speakers. As I said the system supports up to 64 speakers.....and the theater I went to damn near had that amount jam packed in the theater.....and that was their biggest screen there. Nonetheless if you go see an Atmos movie or know people that have leave your experiences here!
  16. You're welcome! And I totally understand! As I said the 82s are the sweet spot and are no slouches. And if you do ever get upgadeitis then the 82s will make great surrounds or can be the start to another system in the bedroom. [] But yes this hobby takes time. You're lucky to be able to buy everything at once! I started with the Klipsch bookshelf speakers and worked up from there. Eventually ending up with a front projection screen and the RF- 7 IIs....thats the fun part about our hobby....seeing everything come together and hearing the upgrades between different speakers and components when you upgrade....My ex complained because it seems like every room has a Klipsch setup. I just couldn't sell them when I upgraded, lol. But welcome to the Klipsch family! You won't be disappointed. And yes if you're patient great deals can be had. Crutchfield has new 82 IIs for $499!!! Thats only in cherry though....open box 82s are $429 each and scratch and dent are $399 each. Now I've seen some scratch and dent stuff that you couldn't tell from new unless you checked the back of the speaker or behind the grill. So I would call them to see exactly where the scratches are. But all of those are good deals in my opinion considering the normal price is $600 each....so you may already be well on your way to saving even more! I want to jump on a pair of those 82s so that I could match the series and looks of the drivers....but just don't have the funds right now.....But good luck on building your theater! Keep us updated!
  17. Yes I have to agree with the suggestion of just waiting and getting what you truly want and saving yourself some upgrades dpwn the road. The smallest speakers I have heard are the rf-62s....I currently have the 82s and 7 IIs.....While the 62s will do a great job of giving you that great movie sound...they are a little lacking on the low end...so a sub becomes a little more important. But their immerson and soundstage i pretty good....The 82s are the sweet spot imo....they throw out a big soundstage....have good bass so the impact of the sound seem to hit you harder....imaging, immersion is all really good....you won't be disappointed. But if you can....I would spring for the 7 IIs.....because I thought the 82s were a jump....but wow...the 7s are an even bigger jump! The sound is just BIG....immersion is even better. Soundstage is great....And they seem to produce all of this sound pretty effortless...With the 7s you will probably never want to upgrade....unless you step up to Heritage or the RF 7 IIIs lol. Not saying they are making a 3rd edition but I really doubt any other upgrades would make you happy. The 7s are at the top of the Reference line for a reason. Likewise they cost a couple of thousand more than the 82s.....but are worth it imo. Now if you do decide to go smaller first and then upgrade later then you could move the smaller towers to surround duty and see how you like that. (if you have the space) Size of the room does matter but I think you'll be satisfied with the 7s even in a small room. You just won't be able to crank them as loud. I had the 82s in my bedroom but could never really just turn them up....so I moved them to surround duty with my 7s and put the rf-25s (older rf-62s) in the bedroom. I'm really digging the change. I can turn the 25s up louder without going deaf and the 82s sound great doing surround duty. A lot of people don't realize this but ome movies send the full range of sound to your rear speakers....I have heard bass in some surround effects. Pretty cool hearing stuff that I was missing before.... rf-62s-Will do...you will be happy but in a larger room may not give you the impact you want rf-82s-Sweet spot for price to performance. Very good speakers. You won't be disappointed and will be happy rf-7s-Expensive but wow...once you get them setup you may never want to leave the house again. Pure beasts
  18. How do you like the RB 61's? I am about ready to purchase a set myself, but do not have any place to give them a listen. I will only be using the Denon AVR1613 (75W) to push them, hoping that's going to be enough? I have the RB-61 IIs and yes their sound is great. If you're debating over getting some then you should go ahead and pick them up (unless you can go bigger...like floorstanders) I used them as my front main speakers until I was able to upgrade to floorstanders. The soundstage on the 61s is pretty impressive...there were plenty of times when the sound went beyond the speaker (sound seemed to come about 4 feet past the left channel on the left side of the room and the same for the right speaker) they do have a nice full bodied sound. The bass from them is pretty impresssive....and your Denon should be enough to push them....they are pretty sensitive speakers. I used an entry level Onkyo to push mines when I had them as my main speakers and they sounded fine....now I'm using a Harman Kardon to drive them in my 2 channel setup. Just make sure you play around with your settings to try and get the best sound...On my Harman they sounded alright but really came alive with that big speaker sound once I switched to Logic 7 mode.....so run the Audessy setup and see how it sounds....then double check your levels with a SPL meter and tweak from there.
  19. No screws. It should just pull off but as I said it is in there tight but if you're careful you should be able to get it off.....and to access the port you have to take the speaker out.....the port rises as it goes to the rear of the cabinet. At the rear of the enclosure Klipsch glued the port to a wood riser block looking thing. sometimes that glue comes apart from shipping....if you do take your speaker off you will know right away of its loose or not....it shouldn't move at all. and yes you can stick your hand up the port at the front but I don't think you will be able to really move it but its worth a try.....and yes you were correct. I meant the whole plastic piece....now if you can't get it off then the option above doesn't look bad....its quick and simple and your grill will hide the paper unless you like to run your speakers naked (like i do sometimes) ps you will need a sercurity bit to get the speaker off. I believe its a Torx screw. I already had a security bit set because I have upgraded numerous things and taken them apart such as tivos, palm pilots, game systems etc. The sets are cheap on ebay but if you don't already have a set then you have to weigh whether its worth the trouble or not. The port could be fine. After I glued the plastic on 1 of my subs I have heard nothing but clean bass. And I have pushed them pretty hard with The Dark Knight and Fast 5 Blu Rays among other movies known to give your entire system a workout....so as stated before if everything checks out and you are experiencing port noise then you will need to turn the gain down on the RW-12d and get a second sub. there is no reason why the Klipsch shouldn't work with the Definitive or any other sub. You will have to spend more time matching the levels and getting everything sounding right with a SPL Meter if you have 2 different subs compared to having 2 of the same subs...I think newegg is probably still having their "sale" on the rw-12d so it could come out cheaper for you to go that route. Of course getting a second sub is a last resort. I have 2 because my movie room is a converted garage so its huge. I had a ton of dead spots where I could not hear any bass....even when blasting movies....the second sub evened things out and took away the locality of the bass.....it fills the whole room.....and I can feel it too....and thats with the volume on both being set to -9db.....eq set to depth....hopefully you can find your problem. I've blabbed enough!
  20. Alright those are pics of that piece we are talking about...I took a picture of the side of it as well so that you can see where it butts up against the cabinet
  21. Oh ok. I'm sorry. Alright right below your speaker grill there is a plastic right below it that has that gold klipsch logo.....it hides the sub port....hence if you reach under it you will feel the port going up at an angle....basically your speaker grill sits right above it and is formed to match the curves of that piece....that piece comes off....usually its pretty tight but since it isn't permanently attached it may not be as tight as possible and it could rattle against the wood whenever the sub is playing stuff because of all the vibrations...so the other poster said he put a piece of cardboard behind it....he would have to elaborate on his procedure....I used super glue to form that tight bond. either way I'm sure you will have to take that entire bottom piece off....it just pulls straight out but it is tight so you have to play around with it and be careful. But the easiest way to mess with it is to take your grill off....that way you can see the entire top portion of the plastic piece we are talking about....the klipsch logo will be in the middle slightly raised.I will take a picture of it tonight and upload it
  22. I'm not married and my girlfriend doesn't even live with me but even I would be scared to bring either one of those beasts home. Wow!!! Can only imagine how much those things can pressurize a room
  23. definitely good call. one of my subs was perfect while the other one had that rattle....I took the speaker out and checked the port....turns out it was my plastic rattling as well.....so I pulled it off and used some gorilla super glue.....kept pressure on it an once it dried that got rid of the rattle....unfortunately I will never be getting that piece off ever again lol. Just another suggestion if you don't do the cardboard thing.
