  1. well heck that settles it. Mitsubishi it is....thanks Ed regards monty
  2. well? anybody? should I assume the one I picked is the best for my budget?
  3. Hey guys, Once again I am asking my fellow Klipschters for advise on HT upgrade. I want a HDTV peferabally Mitsubishi or Sony. I have $2500 to spend including taxes(out the door). I think ive found one but would appreciate your inputs. http://www.goodguys.com/adtemplate.asp?invky=575196 I want at least a 46" and it has to be HD widescreen. Please, any feedback is appreciated Monty
  4. HornEd; You are welcomed anytime Ed. I would be glad to have you over. Although I don't suppose you would even lift an eyebrow once youve herd my system, considering what your living room consist's of. Anyhow, the reciever is actually one of the first surround sound systems that came out in the mid 80's (I think) It actually has 4 channels. A total of 315wx4 @ 6ohms. I'm assuming that the receiver can put out at least 175w into the main channels at a 4ohm load. It really is nothing to look at but at my suprise it can push my SVS 20-39cs down to floor shaking level's. Not to mention it's not too bad playing music either. If you know anything about new vs old as far as receiver's/amp's are concerned. (which i'm sure you do) it's amazing what manufacturer's were able to produce 15 years ago. The quality of the actual parts used to assemble receivers back in the day were much more superior than the parts used today . You can take your pick of any new receiver on the shelve right now that can drive up to 150w (max) per channel (within a reasonable price range) and I garuntee you it would not be able to handle a 4 ohm load speaker like an SVS. Im sure it would either clip or overheat on you during the high demand periods. The pioneer did me proud but I ordered a Samson S1000 last week. If 175w can shake my house Im wondering what 500w can do at 4 ohms! This message has been edited by montigue on 02-02-2002 at 12:06 AM
  5. if anyone is interested in buying a passive sub like the SVS I have a Pioneer amp that will push it really good. 150wx2 into 6 ohms. I had it hooked up to my SVS 20-39cs and its a monster for 150w's of output. $30 plus shipping to anyone interested Monty
  6. T-man I have an old poineer amp that works great for powering a subwoofer. I had it hooked up to my 20-39 and it kiks a$$! Tuner dosent work but it puts out 150W x2 into 6 ohms. It dosent run hot until you put it under a very heavy load. If you want it ill sell it to you for $30 plus shipping. let me know Monty
  7. HEY horned!! welcome back buddy!!! good to see you on the site again...yyyeeeeppppeeeee Monty R
  8. The very best route to go would be to buy the SVS 25-31cs for $369 plus shipping wich would bring you to about almost $400. Then buy an old amp to power it. I have on I will sell you for $30. It worked great with my 20-39cs. That would be a total of $440. Try and scrap together the extra $40 because with this combo you just can't match it with anything else on the market. If you abseloutly had to you can wait on the amp until you found one in the paper or at a local yard sell or flea market. Monty
  9. well, after reading William and klewless's explanation of standing waves I definitly have a very good understanding of what causes it. Thank you guys for that information. Thanks to Boa and Keith as well for you inputs. I think as long as the listining position is free of standing wave it shouldnt matter too much. one more question, I just bought drapes to enclouse the HT room for more of a theater effect. Having the room encloused by all four corners, will it cause more standing waves? Monty
  10. just as I suspected. With the addition of my sub I noticed different levels of bass in different locations in my living room. Epecially near the walls and even behind the entertainment center. I also noticed the bass wass boomy at at certain areas in the room and deeper in other areas. Im thinking your right about getting two subs John. It might even out the bass a little better. would getting one of those meters from radio shack help in positioning the speakers to limit some of those standing waves from the listining position? did that make scense? Monty R
  11. Well I am wondering if I am a victim of standing waves. Can anybody tell me what causes them and how can you tell if you have been infected with them? Monty
  12. Are you using your DVD from your computer? If so it probably dosent decode DTS. Even if your reciever has DTS it does not work unless your DVD player has it as well. Monty
  13. Ive listened to them at a local audio shop. A lot of the newer designs have a much thinner enclosure, therfore smaller drivers, Like the RF 3 RF 5 and many others. The narrower design really needs a subwoofer to complament it because it just cannot put out the same bass as the older and wider designed enclosures. My KG 5.2's with there 12" passive radiator can hang with most Klipsch subwoofers down to 32hz. I think manufactures have gone with more style than sound quality. The best speakers ever made in my opinion were the K horns. Look how wide they are and how much bass they can produce. If anyone else has done any comparisons on the KG4, KG 5.2 or the KG 5.5? If you have im sure you would agree. It seems everything made now has to be extremlly cost effective. Because of labor costs in this country now days you will not find quality like you used to. Monty
  14. well If she wants a KLIPSCH sub for under $1000, the choices are really limited, probably to the Klipsch KSW series. Unless she wanted to spend a few extra hundred and get the reference series subs. Like the RSW 12.... Is their really any other choice's for her critiria? Monty
  15. I just can't help myself. When I see people so willing to fork out so much money on gear I just have to show how much I paid for my gear: Klipsch KG 5.2's ....$350 (used mint cond off ebay) Klipsch KLF C-7 .....$340 (new from ebay) Klipsch Quintets ....$80 (new from ebay) H K AVR 65 receiver..$300 (tuner used amp was new, found in local paper). SVS 20-39cs sub......$485 (new from SVS) Samson S1000 amp.....$289 (new from ebay) Sony DTS DVD NS300 $250 (new from best buys) my entire audio system cost me a grand total of: $2100 and the quality would compare to a Denon Klipsch RF combo if not better. you could have so much more for that $2000 you have to spend...if you were willing to spend the time shopping. Now ill get back on topic...Seperates are always going to be better than an av receiver, and if you did want to spend $2000 on an amp then you should go that route.. Also as far as amp output is concerned HK has on of the best amps for high current output. You should do some research on HK. I hope I was somewhat helpful...good luck Monty This message has been edited by montigue on 01-25-2002 at 03:20 PM
  16. You can get a KSW 12 for around $400. They are good for the money you spend. Of course if you could spend around $1100 you could get a refrence sub. Say like the RSW 12. They are much better. Regards Monty R
  17. NICE! I think now you got it right! I wish I would have waited for the CS+. For only another $130 I could have gotten 80% of the Ultra's performance. CRAP!! Regards Monty
  18. well if thats the case then, I was wrong. I thought the 3.2 had the same horn. Its just that the 2.2v isnt that good of a center speaker compared to todays newest centers. Monty R
  19. yes it was made to match the KLF's, It is a KLF speaker no doubt. But the tractix horn loaded tweeter is the same horn that Klipsch made in the KG series. I have the C-7 with my KG 5.2's and I have had the 2.2v. The C-7 is MUCH better than the 2.2v and timbre matches the KG's just as well as the 2.2. I dont care what any thread says I go with what my ear says. Anybody that takes a 2.2 over a C-7 is missing some great HT. GET THE C-7 you will love it!!!
  20. hehe I mean buy it... You got the SVS 20-39cs package??
  21. If you get the 2.2v over the C-7 your missing out on much improved HT sound. As long as your receiver lets you adjust the volume on your mains and center you should get the C-7. C-7 timbre matches the horns on the KG series perfectly. If you decide to buy the C-7 you can find it on ebay for just over $300 w/ shipping. Monty R
  22. huh? why dont you buy it T-man? werent you looking for a good deal on a SVS? Monty This message has been edited by montigue on 01-24-2002 at 12:48 PM
  23. ya ive seen it for $339 also but then they want another $20 for shipping. This one inlcudes shipping costs for $349. I dont know how much the interconnect cable would be but that could be a factor, for sure. this guy sells factory seconds on ebay: username "swarthmoremusic" his number is Swarthmore Music 610-328-2464 I just bought the S1000 for $289 from this guy. He says his equipment is new not refurbished BUT could have and probably for sure does have scratches and dents. Monty
  24. hey Mike, If searched around for quite a few days, and this is the best deal I could find for the S700, check it out... http://www.zzounds.com/love.music?p=p.SAMS700&z=1274456153851 Id like to see a better price than this..blows SVS $389 + shipping out of the water Monty
