  1. I just bought an RW-10 and connected it to my Harman Kardon AVR 525 pre-amp subwoofer output and it doesn't seem to be as loud as I think it should be, even at full volume. I connected this to the LFE input of the sub. I'm using a normal RCA - RCA connector. Is there something that I missed ? Any feedback would appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Has anyone tried comparing HK AVR 525 with Piooner's Elite VSX 45TX ? What are your thoughts about these units ? Any feedback will be appreciated.
  4. I have a couple of suggestions. 1) As CO1 suggested, try to determine what is too loud for your neigbour. Then if your receiver supports the "Night Mode", set your volume at your neihgbour's tolerable level and activate the "Night mode". 2) Use a good set of ear phones. Some receivers have features that simulate surround mode even with just 2 speakers or a headphone. If you plan to live in that apartment for sometime, then you'll have to compromise.
  5. dblue, Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping the MP3 decoder would improve my existing MP3s. I guess, one couldn't have it all ! I'm slowly building my HT setup. I'm looking at the AVR 525 for my receiver. I've already ordered a pair of RF-15 and the RW-10 for my sub. I plan to grab a pair of RB-25 for my surround and the corresponding Reference center.
  6. Pathos, I too was a bit hesitant at the thought that HK got only about 75W per channel plus the 0.07% THD. Here's some of the things I found out. Try to check what is the rating in Amperes of your RX-V1000. I have not yet seen this value supplied by Yamaha in their brochures. Ampere rating is important, because its the current ( measured in Amperes ) that really drives the voice coil of your speakers to produce the sound, not the wattage, hence the name "amplifier", not "wattifier". "Clean power" I think means that even driven at very high volume and dynamic range, speakers are still producing less distorted sound. To achieve this, your amplifier or receiver will need enough ampere rating to drive the necessary channel(s).
  7. Hi there, I'm considering buying HK's AVR 525, the equivalent here in Australia (AVR 5550) comes with an MP3 decoder, has anyone tried this ? If so, was there a significant difference between that and a stereo output from a DVD player that decodes MP3 as well but sends analogue signals to the receiver ? Any feedback would be appreciated. dblue, was there a significant improvement with the sound quality of you Klipsch speakers when coupled with AVR 525 ? Thanks.
  8. Has anyone tried using HK's MP3 decoder on their receivers ? Did it significantly improve the audio quality ? Of course, listening to DVD and CD's would be better but changing them every hour is really getting to me especially when I'm fixing stuff around the house or the garden.
  9. Me and my wife plans to see this movie next week. I'm wondering how high the will they raise the bar again with this new movie. m00n, I actually wanted to ask you about your Harman Kardon receiver. I saw that it decodes MP3, have you tried it ? If so, did it create a significant improvement on the sound or not ? How accurate is the automatic setup using the Ezset ? I'm considering both the Onkyo TX SR701 and HK's AVR 5550 for my setup. Thanks for your time.
  10. Thanks everyone for your feedback ! I haven't listened to both side by side, but looking at some of the features of HK AVR 5550, I'm kind of leaning towards it. Its high-current of course is one of the biggest factor. I lately realized that several receiver manufacturers boast that their products have high current but does not show these number in their specs. If I'm not mistaken, the TX SR701 mentioned only 6A for the US model against the 45A of AVR 5550. I also like HK's support for MP3 and multi-room ( plus remote control ) and automatic setup. Once again, thanks for your feedback, I still will have to listen to both machines side by side before I make my final decision.
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm about to buy a receiver but I can't make up my mind on which of the above mentioned receiver should I go for. What is the advantage of HK's high current over the more conventional receivers ? In terms of real power to drive speakers like RF15, which one would be better ? Any input would be appreciated.
  12. How about the setup below ? In terms of price, this might not be that bad. Klipsch RB-15 ( surrounds ) Klipsch RF-15 ( main left & right ) Klipsch RC-25 ( center ) Klipsch RW-10 ( sub ) When it comes to the receiver, you can either keep your SR4300 or upgrade to SR5300. Just my 2 cents worth.
  13. I've got 2 questions and I would appreciate your answers. 1) what are the good websites to check for prices of most of Klipsch speakers? 2) Is the price difference between RB-15 and RB-25, is it worth going for the RB-25 ?
  14. Hi everyone, I just want to get your opinion on how the Pioneer VSX receivers compare to the equivalent Yamaha receivers. How do the 2 compare in terms of sound quality, cost-effectivity etc. Any feedback will be appreciated.
  15. If you can create a high-quality WAV file out of it, you might be able to share it with all of us here !
  16. I'm planning to buy the System 6 for my HT. My problem is, it's surround speakers seemed to be for wall mounting only. I think they wouldn't look so good on a stand either. What speakers would be a good replacement for them ? Thanks.
  17. Hi Everyone, I got this issue that I have no idea on how to solve it. Perhaps you can help me out. I got a 5.1 setup at the moment and I plan to buy a better pair of front speakers. This is to cater for stereo music I listen to a lot these days. I'd like to add my current front speakers to the rear speakers. How can I do this without damaging either my speakers or receiver ? Do I connect them in serial, parallel or do I use a splitter from the receiver to this additional rear speakers ?
  18. Thanks very much Justin ! I indeed found the answer in your website. Talking about your website, it looks cool. Great job !
  19. Hi Everyone, I need to create a new set of PM4.1 wires which are longer and better than the one's that it came with. I'm afraid that I could get the polarity wrong so, I'm asking the help of you guys who has done this correctly already. The wire I'm using got a blue mark on one and just plain on the other. Using the crude picture below (my apologies), which wire one should I use to connect to the shorter ( the one on top ) connector of the mono 3.5mm jack ? ___________________ /____ /___________ / ______________/_/ /\__________/ / /_____________________/ Your input is highly appreciated.
  20. I am in a similar situation, I have a PM4.1 and I've always wanted to play DD5.1 & DTS movies through them. PM5.1 is not widely available here in Australia yet, also it can be very expensive. I thought of buying the PM2.1 but the retailers here are selling them based on their wattage rating, not on their US selling price. Last time I checked, they are an equivalent of US$240.00 here ! I have employed a mixer to combine the Front Left, Front Right, LFE & Center output of my DVD's built-in decoder to the PM4.1 Front speakers(Left & Right) The surround signals are handled by PM4.1 Rear speakers. I've run the THX 6.1 test on it and I'm happy with the result ! The Center signal is handled by both the Left & Right speakers, which in my opinion is better than a single Center speaker. I'll draw up some diagram if someone is interested with this setup. Cheers !
  21. What power/line protection do you guys provide for your units ? I think this is one of the reasons why Justin have been very lucky with all his units. I guess I'm lucky with my PM4.1. Initially, my sub began to die but since the dealer replaced it, I always made sure that a small fan behind the steel plate of the sub is kept cool and does not even become warm. My budget does not allow me to buy a proper recevier/speaker setup for now but I could not convince myself to buy a HT-in-a-box type since I have not found one yet that can outdo my PM4.1
  22. Thanks for the input ! This NEC LT220 looks good to me, when I told my wife about it, she pointed an LG PT-53A83T RPTV for she wants big picture while watching TV too. I like the specs but would LG TVs last about 5 years ?
  23. I'm looking at buying a projector mainly for watching DVDs. What factors should I be looking at ? The room for this application is a bit too bright during day time, will a 2000 ANSI lumens projector be able to make a big difference. Or is it more the contrast ratio ? I'm very keen on this NEC's LT220. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks !
  24. I know that we are talking mostly about audio here, but since home theater includes the display unit, I believe that I can get some very informed feedback here. I'm seriously considering rear-projection TV for my setup. Plasma is just impractical at the moment. LCD or DLP projectors are out of the question too for it complicates the operation of the system & the short life-span of its expensive bulb. What factors should I consider when comparing different units ? Is there a life-span for the lamp of its internal projector ? Besides cost, how does a rear-projection TV compare to a conventional 16:9 TV in terms of advantages & disadvantages ? Any feedback will be appreciated.
  25. I have briefly listened to the 641 and I am convinced that the PM4.1's sub is better in clarity , freq. response and output power. If you're going to have this sound challenge for hours and hours, I suggest that you bring a portable fan for your sub. I assume that you will be using the same PC to test both speakers. I am confident that your PM4.1 will beat his 641, unless of course your unit is defective.
