  1. My unit misbehaved once after about 5 months of use, but after it was fixed, for the price, performance & support, there is no other speaker in the market that I find worth considering.
  2. If the Audio Tornado can downmix to 4.1, the DD 5.1 can do the same, probably better. Check out its details here: http://www.klipschonline.com/store/product.asp?dept%5Fid=3&pf%5Fid=034
  3. Bought mine last July 2001 and its been great. My sub got too warm by November 2001. After being replaced, it gave me nothing but wonderful sound since. My neighbour is curious what "monstrous" setup I got ! Yes, I make sure that my baby girl is at the other end of the house each time I feel generous enough to share my music with my neighbours.
  4. I'm looking for a pre-amp that can decode Dolby Digital, DTS & Prologic ( Prologic II would be welcomed ). At the moment, I got a Rotel unit that only decodes Prologic. Any suggestion on which model should I be looking for from Sony, JVC, Denon, Pioneer etc. ? I am aware of the DD 5.1, Extigy and other PC decoders available but I'm looking for a unit that allows me to switch between my DVD, TV, VHS, CD Player, notebook, MP3 Player etc. easily. Any suggestion will be much appreciated.
  5. You might want to check the following : - DD 5.1 ( from Klipsch ) - Yamaha's TSS-1 ( a 5.1 system, with decoder/amp unit) - Jazz's DE-005 & DE-006 decoders I am still researching on which one is more appropriate.
  6. Yep, it might be an amp problem. You have to send the sub back for check-up or replacement. My unit began to distort a few months after I bought it and the back of the sub is too warm to touch. They replaced it and since then, I'm taking no chances. I have a small fan behind the sub to keep it cool. I know that this should not be the case, but considering the power of the amplifier, Klipsch should have a good heatsink installed even when their test units did not heat up. But I'm happy with its sound and I don't mind keeping having a fan just to keep my sub cool. My neighbours are just dying to see my "amplifier and speaker system" and I know that they are envisioning a monstrous setup that would cost a month's worth of my salary !
  7. I guess most of us who got a fully functional units are very busy enjoying them, we don't have time to come here and talk about it. Think of all those CD, DVD, MP3, games that we have to listen to or watch ! Somehow, I never get enough of these materials as my Promedia dishes them out. I'm sorry for those who got problems with their units, perhaps those who exagerrated what these Promedia can do gave them unrealistic expectations. As far as Klipsch is concerned, I believe that the company gave us a wonderful line of products and they are trying to make it financially viable for us who otherwise wouldn't have the chance own a unit this good. Also, look at how the market responded. We the "consumers", are the ultimate winners.
  8. I plan to use my PM 4.1 with my set-top DVD player but I want to decoder to go with it. This set up will not be using a PC, so software and soundcard decoders are out. The Audio Tornado decoder are not available yet. Are the Jazz DE-005, DE-006 or DE-007 any good ? I'd appreciate a feedback from you guys.
  9. After my subwoofer was replaced because it gets too hot, I always have a fan behind the sub to keep it cool. Yes, Klipsch should have included somre real good heat sink, I'm willing to pay a bit more as long as these lovely speakers keep going. Cheers !
  10. Hello Buck, I'm not very familiar with the STR-DE675. I believe though that you should put the better speakers, in terms of power and sound quality, as your Front speakers, especially when you plan to double them up as the Center speaker ( in Phantom mode ). For movie viewing, due to the difference of the sound quality that your speaker sets produce, the overall experience could leave a few things to be desired. I hope this helps. Cheers !
  11. Hello Buck Wilde, I've tried something similar this weekend. I got a PM 4.1 & a Yamaha YST MS55D (40W RMS speakers & 40W RMS subwoofer), a 2.1 set. I ended up using the front speakers of PM4.1 for the Front channel and the rear speakers for the LFE channel. For the rear channel, I used my Yamaha set. The Center channel signal was sent to the front speakers in Phantom mode. With the combined power of the PM 4.1 & YST-MS55D subwoofers, I must say that I couldn't ask for more. You must check your decorder's/receiver's manual though on how it throws the LFE to your subwoofer. Hope this helps. Cheers !
  12. Hello splinter, Yep, I agree, there should be no need to have fan to cool the sub but I'm not taking chances. I know that this should also prolong the life of these lovely speakers. Having this very warm summer does not help. Each time I listen to them, it makes me smile to know that I do not need to spend thousands of dollars to get the same power and sound quality. Cheers !
  13. Hello Allen, I am using the 220V version here in Australia and at the back of the sub is the power ON/OFF switch. I'm afraid that this might not the case with the 110V version. My apologies, I have not noticed this difference before.
  14. Hello Allen, I think you missed something here. There is an ON/OFF switch on the sub itself. Turn it on and your unit might just work. TIPS: 1) Always have a fan behind your sub to cool it off 2) Don't leave it on stand-by mode. Turn it off. I hope this helps. Cheers !
  15. Hello Creacher, Since my sub was fixed, I've never turned it on without a fan behind it and I do not leave it on standby anymore. Grab yourself a small cheap fan and position it at a good distance from your sub. Just make sure that it does not affect the sound output. Cheers!
  16. I bought my PM 4.1 last July. Around late November, my sub started to be real hot even when in standby mode. So, I called the dealer to have it fixed. Guess what, they arranged to have my sub picked by a courier from my office and about a week later its back in my office ! I was delighted with this and spent hours after hours testing the sub. To test it, I even brought it to a Church function to provide music for a hall. It did not disappoint at all. Imagine a sound system composed of only a notebook, a small mixer and PM 4.1. Its still shaking walls and china at home ! But I'm taking no chances this time. I have a small fan behind the sub to keep it cool, especially now that its summer here Down Under. I'm not sure if you can get the same service level with the other multimedia speaker manufacturing companies. Can you ? Cheers !
  17. Hello Mate, You might have to consider the warranty that Microdirect carries for these units. If you get them from authorised dealers, you just might get a better deal in the long run. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait. Cheers !
  18. My Promedia 4.1 heats up even when I turn the speakers off, that is, the control pod lights up red instead of green. Is this a normal condition ? My sub-woofer heats up so much that I could not hold it even for a minute. Any suggestions ? Any help will be appreciated.
  19. Hello Splinter, I bought my unit from Forward Audio Visual in 431b Victoria St., Abbotsford. The telephone number is 9427-8322. Look for Elton. Cheers !
  20. Have you checked the warranty that Microdirect offers ? I think its only 12 months, but I believe, its officially 5 years. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. I have no problem in terms of transformer for my PM 4.1 as they come with 230V power supply. The subwoofer does not heat up that much too. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a happy chappy. The PM 5.1 seemed a bit too far for now. PM 4.1 took 2 years to get to Australia, I believe the PM 5.1 will reach us faster but that could still be a year from now. When it lands in Australia, I should have enough budget for another Promedia ! Cheers!
  22. I listen to MP3s a lot. My CDs require some fancy equalizer to sound the way I wanted them to. I also want my speakers very loud when I feel like it and when I'm playing games, so the Promedia met most of my requirements at a reasonable price. I have considered the Crossfire. With 5 years of warranty from Klipsch, thats something very reassuring. Also PM looks good ! Tell me though how the Crossfire sounds. After a few weeks, my Promedia 4.1 still amazes me with its sound quality and volume. And yes, I made sure that I'm in very good terms with my new neighbors as we move to our new house.
  23. If you love to hear how good your Promedia sounds, check out Kitaro's Sundance. Cheers !!!
  24. I bought my unit from Forward Audio in Richmond North. I paid AUD$800.00 for it. You can contact either Ben or Elton at (613) 9427 8322. The store is found in: 431B Victoria St Abbotsford VIC 3067 Hope that you can get your units soon !
  25. I just got my PM 4.1, they came only last week here Down Under, so I was told. It really sounds incredible! My wife is somehow jealous, perhaps its just the way I described how much I love these speakers ! I only wsh that Klipsch could keep up with the demand and make the 5.1 and decoder available soon! Cheers !!!
