  1. Hi! I am planning to consolidate my cd collection into apple lossless files and keep them in an external drive (files are massive). I am currently using a Marantz SR7005 avr with Klipsch RF-82s. Is buying a multimedia drive a good solution? And will I be able to connect it with my avr through hdmi? Also, what is the difference between a media box and a multimedia drive? Sorry, don't know too much about this stuff. Lastly any suggestions for any particular brands/types of these drives. Thank you! Appreciate your help!

  3. Hi all, Need some advice. I had recently bought the following setup: Klipsch RF-82s Premier Acoustic PA-120 sub Marantz SR 7005 AVR Marantz IS-301 ipod dock Although it is hooked up to my TV I like to use it mainly for audio. I am currently playing through my ipod (have a few lossless files but mostly mp3s) but am unhappy with the sound quality from the mp3s. I have been considering buying a good cd/sacd player or somehow create a library of flac files to ensure I get optimal performance from this setup. Having said that, I know very little about cd/sacd/blu ray players (already have a ps3) or other potential audio sources/formats. Could you please help me decide what the best option would be. I do not want to spend too much money on this ($300-$400 max) Appreciate your time and help. Many thanks!
  4. Yeah, I agree tkd. The person who came to set it up was a local home theatre installation guy and said he has never set up a Marantz before. I am currently living in a small place in IN. Will call up Marantz tomorrow and see if they can talk me through the correct set up.
  5. Haha! Yeah, been at it for a while dude! Dennie's been awesome!! Still not getting much sound from the sub. And not even close to having this Marantz figured out....in fact I'm quite confused as to how its working at these settings....lol. Will post pics soon! "Venus in Furs" by The Velvet Underground has never sounded better. Thanks again guys!
  6. It works!! It works!! OMG...just cranked up Velvet Underground and it sounded gooood!!! Well, a lot better than the tweeters alone...lol. Keep hitting the enter key Dennie but it somehow still appears as one paragraph.....sorry..;p So now, both speakers are connected at SURR. BACK/AMP ASSIGN with no output from FRONT A. The sound is good but I cant really tell if its at 100% (no frame of reference...lol). The sub also sounds weak right now....trying to reconfigure through Audyssey. Does this mean the Front A output of the AVR is dead?? Any, will keep fiddling around for a bit!\ Dennie, cant thank you enough buddy! Big Thanks!! :-)
  7. Sorry about the confusion guys! Yesterday, I was trying with just one wire (contains both + and -) on one speaker input (the low frequency +/-) with the connecting metal plate on. The speaker wire was connected to Front A on the AVR and produced no sound at all...Audyssey did not even detect the speakers. Today I am using two wires (with 2 + and 2 -) on both the LF (woofer) and HF(tweeter) of the speaker without the connecting metal plate. Now the LF wires from each speaker (the lower inputs on the speakers) are going into Front A (R&L) output of the AVR as described in the manual on page 36. The HF wires from each speaker are going into the SURR. BACK/AMP ASSIGN output on the avr. The subwoofer is connected to the SW (pre out through a coax with an adaptor). Now I am getting sound only from the tweeters (HF) on each side. have kept the Amp Assign setting to SPKR-C as described on page 37 of the manual. No idea why the LF/woofer connections going into FRONT A are not working. When I tested the speakers with the Sony avr, all speakers (woofers and tweeters) played with a regular single wire (with metal jumper) to Front A of that AVR. Apologies, i don't mean to take up so much of your time and am terribly confused my self. Let me know if you guys can figure out something that I am doing wrong. many thanks once again for all the replies, support and encouragement.
  8. Thanks Dennie!! Yes, I have the original jumpers that came with the speakers. Should I use them even if I am bi amping? Tried yesterday with them on but with a regular setup (just one wire out from each speaker) to Front A. Just wanna check before I put the jumpers in. Thanks!
  9. Quick update guys! So I tried connecting my speakers through a Sony AVR and they work just fine (thank god!!..:-)). Next, we tried bi-amping the rf-82s with the marantz sr5005. Now only the tweeters on the speakers are working.....still no sound from the woofers. Followed instructions from the manual (pgs. 36-37) and kept the amp input as SPKR-C. The speaker setup I have kept only includes Front (with no center or surrounds). Do i need to change this? Since only the tweeters are working with a bi-amp connection...I am tempted to beleive that the Front A output on the AVR is faulty/not configured properly. Also, I have connected a subwoofer with the biamp setting (though not shown in the biamp connection drawing on page 36) and it is working ok. Any thoughts on how to get the woofers on the towers to work? Still trying to play around with the settings. On Audyssey, it only picks up the front speakers (two tweeters). Let me know if you guys have any thoughts on this. Relieved that the speakers work though (whew)...and they sounded good with that Sony test avr that i borrowed....:-)...yay!!
  10. Thanks Dennie and tkd. Did try most of the things tkd suggested except "The last thing you may want to check is that you don't have the "ext" for the {edit} analog inputs engaged, which would circumvent your digital connection..."..... don'y understand that....:-0...sorry! The installation guy is coming back in 30 min with a different avr so we can check if the speakers are ok. Asked him to get some extra speaker wires in case those are the problem. Am currently using IXOS 16/2 wires.....don't think they should be a problem but just wondering. Fingers crossed that the speakers work with the test avr. Irrespective, either Marantz or Klipsch customer support will be getting a stinker form me...;-). Even if the avr is good, setup shouldnt be this hard. BTW, really appreciate your time and help guys! Thanks and will keep you posted.
  11. Hey Dennie! trying to get another receiver to check if the speakers are the problem. I am however still getting video from the AVR (through the sat box) but still no sound in the front. Audyssey still does not detect the speakers/no test tone either. Flipped the hf/lf +/- inputs on the speakers/checked the metallic connectors between the lf/hf inputs, but no luck still. "' The only other problem I see could be the speaker wires. The wire says "IXOS" 16/2 reduced wall CL3 E93579. No idea what that means of course...:-)
  12. Hey Dennie! Trying of all that...still no luck. Its quite strange coz i am getting video from my AVR but no sound from the speakers. Could it be that the speakers are defective?? Is there any kind of hidden/secret switch on the speakers that i need to switch on...lol...jk. ....been at this all day now..... its almost funny now.
  13. Hi! Thanks for your reply. I hope its not DOA as well. Am getting video through it though, just not getting any sound.
  14. haha! thanks Dennie! I have full faith in you and the other good folks here at the Klipsch forums. Tried calling the marantz customer support btw, no luck on a Saturday though. :-(
  15. Tried set up yet again! Am not even getting a test tone from either the right or left speaker, the sw does give out a test tone though. Checked and double checked the speaker wires, they are connected to the high frequency +/- on the speaker and A (L&R) on the AVR (no banana jacks btw, just naked wire). Audyssey is still not detecting the front speakers. Maybe the speaker wires are bad/wrong. Unless either the speakers or the amp is defective (i hope not).
  16. On pg 37, Step 4 there are 3 config options: Normal - Set when using 7.1 channel speakers Zone2 - Set for connecting the speakers for Zone 2 to the SURR. BACK/AMP ASSIGN terminals SPKR-C - Set for connecting a tweeter of the front speaker to the SURR. BACK/AMP ASSIGN terminals and a woofer on the front speaker to the FRONT A terminals. I'm using a 2.1 setup. Don't even know which one out of those to choose.., if i select zone 2 or spkr-c, it does not let me select F-Height Pretty darn confusing if you ask me....:-)
  17. Hey Dennie! Been trying to follow the quick setup. But Step 4 "Set Up Speakers" is not happening because the Audyssey mic is not detecting the speakers. Am trying some random adjustments with speaker size/crossover etc. now. Hope it works.....was so excited this morning till this happened. Anyway, thanks for the advice buddy! :-) Will keep you guys posted.
  18. Thanks for all the replies/tips guys! I was to set up my new system and hear it for the first time today.........but disaster...:-( No sound is coming out from the front speakers however my subwoofer is still playing some bass. Have no clue whats going on, the guy that came to set it up is stumped as well and suggests I call up Marantz/Klipsch customer support on Monday. I am using 2 RF-82s with a PA-120 sub and a Marantz SR5005. Had connected the RF-82s to A (R&L) and have even tried switching them to the B and A+B setting. My Audyssey mic does not detect the RF-82s. Could this be a problem with the avr or the speakers. Everything is brand new. Even tried playing off the ipod (front USB) and still no luck...just some deep bass on the sub (its a powered sub). Have checked speaker connections. The Rf-82s have 2 sets of jacks at the back, am using the bottom ones for connections, and currently connected to front 'B' on the avr. Have no clue what the issue is. Any ideas/tips? Will try to post pictures of the wires that I am using in case those could be the problem. Thanks again for all your help thus far.
  19. Hi guys! Had picked up my RF-82s and a PA-120 sub with a Marantz SR5005. The installation guy just came and tried to set it up but we are not getting any sound from the receiver. Its Saturday so cant call the Marantrz customer support. Any tips/ideas as to why this must be happening. All components are brand new. I even tried playing the ipod through the front USB port with earphones. Still no sound. Appreciate any help or advice. Really disappointed, thought I would hear my new system for the first time today.
  20. Thank you all for your comments and advice. So it is established that for music a 2.1 set up will be perfect. Since space is the major constraint for a 5.1 setup and 3.1 makes little sense for music only, I am now wondering if I can pick up smaller surrounds (maybe the RS-41a or the VS-14s or anything else you may suggest) and use them with the center (RC-62) for the occasional movie. Do you guys think this could work? Sorry, I know I am sounding pretty indecisive and confused but just want to ensure I buy the best possible setup within my budgetary and space constraints. Once again, appreciate all the inputs.
  21. Hi again guys! Really confused so I thought I'd take your opinion before spending the $$. I have already bought a pair of RF-82's and a Marantz SR 5005 receiver. Now here's the thing. I don't have enough room for surrounds, so a 5.1 setup is basically out. I will be using my setup mainly for music (lots of classical (with tubas/violins/cellos) and some rock (with heavy bass guitar) and usually play off my iPod (most of them are not lossless files, just regular mp3s). I had almost made up my mind on going with a 3.1 setup with an additional RC-62 center and a PA-120 sub. But after browsing the internet, it seems that a 3.1 setup offers absolutely no advantage over a 2.1 for music. Is this true? I may use my setup for movies as well (occasionally though) in which case I would me missing out on the surround anyway. Does it make sense to buy a center just for music or the occasional movie? Appreciate your time and advice. Many Thanks!
  22. Hi all, I am setting up a 3.1 home audio system with the Klipsch RF-82s, Klipsch RC-62 II and a PA-120 sub with a Marantz SR 5005 receiver. Could you please suggest the best cables/wires for this setup and how much they usually cost? Plan on running my sat box, PS3, a Wii, a DVD player and a Marantz IS 301 ipod dock. Also, I will be moving to Asia for a bit where the power supply is at 220 V. Besides using a step down transformer, is there anything else I need to worry about with this setup? Thanks for your help!
  23. Great, Thanks! Also, do you think a PA-120 subwoofer will go well Klipsch rf-82, rc-62 setup? If not, what subwoofers do you recommend?
  24. Thanks for your advice/comments. So finalizing the rf-82 with a sub (any recommendations?). Also, does it make any sense to run the rf-82s with a sub and a center only?? I have the budget to buy a center right now, just not sure whether it'll sound good with the towers and a sub (without surrounds) Dennie, the outlaw receiver seems nice but i would want to keep some room for future up gradation/additions on my system. The RR2150 doesn't seem very flexible with that. Also considering picking up a Marantz IS 301 wireless ipod dock with my receiver although i already have a B&W zeppelin. Does it make sense to buy the IS 301? Apologies if my questions sound too newbie...just wondering.
  25. Thanks orrb_05. I agree, the sub would make more sense to cover lower ranges. My basic issue is that I don't think I have enough space at the back for the surrounds. Do you think the rf-82s with a sub and center would work well? also what are your thoughts on the marantz sr5005? thanks!
