  1. can i use these magnets on my dbx's? are the ones from klipsch specifically designed for klipsch speakers? if so, where else can I find them for mine? ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  2. I agree with Stu. Check out Hitachi AND Mitsubishi. Have no idea how much this one costs, but check it out! Mitsubishi DLP TV just found out... 12 grand! OUCH! but, it's their flagship, and it's using the newest technology - DLP - Digital Light Processing and you can be on the web and watch hdtv side-by-side instead of PIP (or you can do PIP, too) ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  3. I have direcTV, without local channels (to be added SOON!)...so I watch the local channels through bunny-ear antenna. It depends on your local station whether or not they broadcast the Dolby audio. Here we have 2 CBS's, 1 ABC, 1 FOX and 2 NBC's. You can tell which ones broadcast the surround audio and which ones don't - huge difference when the surround speakers kick in. If you notice at the beginning of shows, the Dolby Surround logo comes up, and underneath there's a disclaimer: (where available) ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  4. Whaler, there is a current auction on eBay for the SB-2's, buy it now for 245.00. Seems like an awesome deal to me. Retail is $350. I think these would sound pretty good with your setup, but I could be wrong. Klipsch SB-2 Auction Or, for under $200 with shipping, the KSB1.1's are on uBid. Don't know how good a match these would be, but here's the link: Klipsch KSB1.1 Auction on uBid ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!

Don't know how long ago you had your 45" projection, but if it was 4 or more years ago, they just plain sucked back then - very dark, very grainy, and like you said before, very hard on your eyes... the WEGA blows those old ones away... however, my 40" mitsu tube has an even better picture than the Wega that my mom has (granted, it's not an XBR - didn't know that the XBR had a line doubler, that would make tons of difference)... when I was buying 5 years ago, there was no way I was going to get a projection because of the harm that video game systems can do to them. so i went with the largest (and best) tube in the world at that time. to this day i have no regrets about the 3k it cost - EXCEPT now mitsu is making HUGE projection tv's that rival the picture of my tube - that cost LESS... I don't know if it's the same one that hornEd has or not, but the 65" mitsu that I saw in a store several months ago was the brightest, best contrast projection I've ever seen, and it was selling for $2600 or so... the 9" guns are humongous, and they produce incredible quality... I haven't seen any of the Runco projection TV's but, IF you're going for a size more than 40", these days you just can't beat the stuff that mitsu is making for the money - IMHO, of course. I've never been impressed with Sony's projection sets. The Wega tube has the direct view market beat... but Mitsubishi's the way to go for projection. Wouldn't you agree HornEd? ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  6. horned, if your mitsu is the same as the one i saw here in a store a few months ago, then you definitely have an incredible tv! the new mitsu projection tv's are unbelievable! speaking of line doublers/quadruplers... anyone on here have front projection, i.e., runco projector or anything? what about runco's own projection tv's with built-in line doublers? 6k and up... yeah, baby, yeah! one day.... ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  7. montigue, i'm assuming your mitsu 45" was a projection, not tube, right, since 40" is as big as they went with tubes? ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  8. i'm not sure how your denon handles the difference between 'dolby surround' and 'dolby pro-logic,' but pro-logic is actually the 4-channel format. some receivers add some digital processing to the front 3 channels to produce a 'phantom surround,' kind of fooling your ears into thinking that there are 2 speakers behind you when there are none... does your manual give any hints? as far as 5.1 through cable, you'd have to have a cable box with a digital output to hook into your DD processor to be able to enjoy 5.1 cable broadcasts. ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  9. I dropped 3k for my 40" mitsu tube 5 years ago and have yet to see a better TV other than some of the new mitsu models. the picture is even better than my mom's 36" FD Wega (not an XBR), and definitely better than projection. there are a few drawbacks to it, though, one being that it weighs over 350 pounds - not a great one for rearranging the den; you put it where it's gonna go and leave it. also, since it is a tube, and the biggest tube out there, it is a very thick tv in that it's about twice as deep as a projection, so it takes up a lot of floor space. yes, prices are way, way down, but HDTV's are still up there, so until they drop, too, I'm very happy with my tube set, and unless it craps out, I'll never get rid of it. and there's nothing like medal of honor II on a 40" tube! ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  10. Kain, I don't know what you consider "don't take up much space," but if you're talking about the footprint of the speaker (how much floor space), the KLF series has just been discontinued, and you really can't beat the quality for the prices they're going for now... for instance, the KLF 10, which retailed for $1,100/pr are going for half that on uBid.com and they only take up a 12" x 16" rectangle of floor space. The matching center, the KLF C7 is actually a pretty huge center channel, but if you have a large TV or have a small TV in an entertainment center of some sort, it will fit fine on top of the cabinet. It retailed for $700 or so, and I got mine from eBay for $340 with shipping... it's definitely up to you, of course, but the KLF series is engineered with extremely high quality, and, as you can see from their numbers on this site, their efficiency is awesome - doesn't take much power to have incredible sound with them. This is coming from a guy who just bought his first (and only so far) Klipsch just this May... but I've been listening to them in stores for years - and now, finally, they're pretty affordable for me! Yippee!! don't be afraid to buy online, either... tell your local guy the prices you're seeing online and watch him stumble and stutter... ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! 11. Discussions such as these which cover the complexities of having to deal with a separate sub and receiver/speaker crossovers, etc, are exactly what are leading me towards powered tower front mains, more specifically, the Def Tech BP3000TL with 1000-watt amps in each for their 18" built-in subs. Let the electronics worry about all of the 'stuff,' and just let me hear what I want to hear out of the speakers - as long as it's accurate. ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  12. my big mains go down to 24... lower than many "subs" on the market - that's why I haven't even bothered to get a separate sub yet. as far as listening to a movie loud and not introducing distortion - not a problem yet... The RxV990 is rated at .0125% THD and the speakers can take 250 watts RMS. I have sub setting set to none; main, center and surrounds set at large. At 10:00 on the volume (0 is 6:00), the neighbors can pretty much hear the dialogue, and most definitely the bass, in their own living rooms. After reading that thread, though, I might as well set the C7 and Polks as 'small,' huh? ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! 13. my thumbs down is to the quintets - a friend of mine has them as rears in his great room, and you can just tell they're missing something compared to the front soundstage. not only are they less efficient, their sound is just not full. and during most movies, they're barely audible (they're hooked to a 100x5 - no reason not to hear them more than we do) i think they'd be perfect in a little apartment, dorm, or bedroom, but if you're putting your system together as your main HT, i'd avoid the quintets at all costs. just my .01, but it's from first-hand experience. ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  14. separating the feeds will produce a cleaner sound just because of the physics involved, but i think we'd see a bigger difference in bi-Amping, not just bi-wiring - just like in cars. many cars are bi-, tri-, even quad- and quintuple-amped these days, and the sound is cleaner - the difference being most obvious at high levels. one day i'll bi-amp, but for now, i'll bi-wire... ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! 15. I think I'm confusing bi-wiring w/ bi-amping; it's all getting muddled... I'm definitely going to do it if the impedance doesn't drop. I could have done it years ago - had no idea it was so easy. My dbx's are ready for it - nothing to remove but a jumper... ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound! 17. I appreciate it, fellas. You've pretty much made up my mind - I'll stick with the "cheap" RCA stuff from Target. 18. Speak to me, geniuses! Tell me in as many over-my-head technical terms that you want - why is Monster Cable brand so freakin' expensive, and why is it worth it???? Can you really tell the difference between one of their component interconnects and one from Radio Shack (the 'more expensive' ones at Rat Shack w/ gold connectors, etc)?? I'm having a very hard time justifying the very large expense of outfitting an entire HT w/ Monster - even at eBay prices! ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  19. Thanks, boa... as a follow-up, how does the receiver/amp's wattage get split when bi-wiring? Am I to assume that if I have a 100 w/ch amp, that when I bi-wire, 50 watts will go to the woofer and 50 to the mid & tweeter? ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA to V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
  20. 22. buzzing could be one of many things... he may have had them hooked up wrong, may have had a short in his setup somewhere, interference from something, who knows... you'll have a better idea once you hook them up at your own house. as far as using them for rears - sounds like a winner to me. seems like they'd be great. there is at least one person here using c7's as surrounds (or at least people have talked about using them) just went and read his description on eBay - he says he used it on top of a big-screen TV and it's not magnetically shielded. 25. I'll get you the drawing soon. I had it all drawn out on my PC at work, then I went to a meeting before saving it, and wouldn't you know it, the darn thing was totally hosed by the time I got back... so I lost it and will have to start from scratch... anywho, the receiver, surround speakers and center channel speaker have already been purchased. a friend of mine wanted to get rid of his sony de545, and that's all she needs for that room for what she's going to use it for. 100 x 5, and less than $250... also got her a KSC-C1 for the center at a very good price at uBid. surrounds will be her existing Polks from the late 80's. Very efficient, and they run at 4 ohms, so they're great. They have been her main speakers in another room used for just music until now... going to get her some KG 3.5's from uBid tonight for her front mains. Thanks again, and I should be able to get you a drawing tonight... Oh yeah... wall mounting is not an option. This house was built in 1917 - plaster walls, hand-carved plaster dentil molding. Will have to use stands for the Polks. So that throws another wrench into the mix... She does have some paintings on the walls, but really doesn't want to mess them up with any more holes. ------------------ Front: dbx Soundfield V - 15" woofer, 8" mid, ribbon tweet, 3.25" mid & dome tweet on top Center: KLF C7 Rear Surround: Polk f/x bipole/dipole Amp: Yamaha RX-V990 100x3; 25x2 DVD: Yamaha DVD S795 (built-in DD Processor) CD: Yamaha CDC 575 5-Disc VCR: Toshiba M752 6-head TV: Mitsubishi 40" Tube DirecTV Sony Playstation w/ s-vid & RCA V990 for awesome gaming picture & sound!
