  1. So, How would I hook them up to bi amp them? I guess thats what I thought I was doing!! The result of what I did is not an improvement in my opinion, a bit louder and maybe a touch more bass but did something to the HF I dont care for. Maybe its the parasound? Any help would be great
  2. If RF-7's are a step backwards from Forte's, then your ear may prefer 3 way speakers. Nothing wrong with that. A good way to find out is to try a pair of Heresy's and a good sub. Improvement is subjective to the listener. Before spending tons more money you might do some soul searching. I have upgradeitis too, and it can break the bank. Well you may be right!! I would love to have both as I do like my rf7's but the fortes where very much my fav. However the towers have a cleaner more modern apeal That is why I thought the KLF 30's would be worth a try. I live in a small town so I dont have anyone that I know of close to me for a listen!! I buy based on reviews and places like this!! I do have a dealer close to me but all the discontinued speakers I go from memory in years passed. I do have a freind that has the KLF20's and like them. The 83's just look great, never heard them but had a pair of 82's that I really liked!! but then again... they are a different beast, could a guy assume that if I liked the 82's I would love the 83's...or since I thought the KLF20's sounded pretty good the 30's have to sound better!!!! how do we really know untill we have them in our space with our electronics..... its just the way it is!!!
  3. I think vertical bi amp but not sure.... What is passive? no active xo. I have the rxa1000 left channel going to one amp say to the right input on the amp, then the parasound has a daisy chain output or loop....i took another rca cable and went into the left channel, So on one amp the left runs the HF and right runs the LF and ditto on the second parasound. What do you call that? Not a huge gain in sound quality...as a matter of fact the more I listen I think the HF has become dirty...grainy....garbled. The bass and volume has improved tho......should I try something else?
  4. I pulled the trigger on a couple of amps, I have 2 parasound HCA-1000A's and have one amp on each speaker. Forgot what you call it, but my thoughts are I am not really jumping up and down because it sounds soooo much better.....it will play louder and has a less "strained" sound...... still not up on the audio lingo but am assuming thats headroom. The HF seems to be not as smooth. It seems when you go so far with any system, you have to spend big bucks to improve!!! I think I am at that point, it upsets me as I have had several pairs of speakers over the last few years and I am thinking the forte II's where my favorite....sold them and bought the rf7's and was feeling like I took a step backwards, however it has motivated me to upgrade about everything in my system now. I will say adding the parasounds was a huge improvement over the yammie. I turned my sub down by at least an 1/8th turn and turned the treble up!!! I have a HCA750 run in mono for the RC7 (for now, may bi amp it in the same manner as the mains...ran out of cables!!)) and would never think of putting it back on the AVR. I think at this point I would love to find a nice black pair of 83's or maybe klf30's to play with. I love bass and the fortes would deliver in that area and where smooth as silk. The rf7 is on the bright side although on the parasound, they sound way smoother. Has anyone else bi amped and thought it was a day and night difference? I am using 1 amp left on lf and right on hf, one amp, 1 speaker, seems a guy said on here.... morey james? I think? thats the best route to go and was pretty easy to do....or do I have that wrong? After proof reading this, I am thining I am totally happy with the way it sounds and the volumes I can achieve..... I am upset because I enjoy the hunt of that new piece, the one I can have shipped cost effective. Not like finding 83's in denver with $300 shipping which is not worth it as chances are they will show up damaged!!! I feel like I need to start over!! I guess I have the "bug" !!! Upgradeitis!! Is that a word?
  5. I wish they where closer to me!! I would have them already!!
  6. Its a little to far for me to go, but a great deal I am sure!! Wish I could find some 83's reasonably close!!
  7. How far north of columbus? I am near toledo and may be interested in the 82's
  8. Thanks for the input. I thought the 7's should go on the side, but wasnt sure. I will be mounting my new projector tonight so not sure if I will have time to run wire for the 3's in the rear but would like to try!! Be nice to watch a movie late tonight!! I am excited!!
  9. i have rf7 fronts rc7 and a pair of rs7 and rs3... question is where should the 7s go? side surround or rear? my sides need to be mounted about 7.5' high but the rears can go lower if need be. Do i need to angle them down and toward listening area or just mount them flat to the wall? Also i have about 6' from rear of couch to the wall behind the couch if that makes any difference. Also have been kicking around adding another sub for the rear....good or bad? I have not played with 2 subs but have read they are a pain to dial in so they work together properly. Any input would be great.
  10. Would love to try the bi amping but its going to have to wait until i can afford a amp or two. I was thinking emotiva should be considered, its affordable has a great promise and best of all new!! I just dont know how it would sound with the klipsch? XPA-200 or a couple of XPA-100's and leave room to grow. I dont think anyone mentioned emo... anyone heard these amps on the 7's?.
  11. Well I do like the HK sound. It is more of what I am looking for out of the 7's. Still had to turn the bass up almost all the way and the treble about 2/3rds but it sounded natural and not forced as my yamaha makes them sound if I turn the bass up and I did not hook my sub up. I did use the M70 on it as well and still did not care for that sound at all, but it sounds good with my polks. I would like to try a Marantz now and see how that sounds...... could not get that SR7500 to put any sound out at all. no pop, crackling or static......nothing. How would a parasound or marantz amp sound compared to the HK I am looking for a warmer sound as opposed to neutral. I feel the yamaha is very neutral or flat sounding not sure how to describe it...... still learning!! I dont know what the emo pre you have is all about but I am sure your system would sound great with the HK. I know you have a large parasound amp so they must be a warmer sounding amp..... I just would like to have a larger shopping range as I will buy used from ebay or CL I know I want at least 200 watts per ch.Have a great day
  12. My memory sucks, turns out its an HKZ 3490,I assume lower end HK? He gave me an older Marantz SR7500 but wont power on......go figure, don't think i won't open it up and see if I can't make it sing again. He said it was twice the HK!! I would like to try a few different avrs before I pull the trigger. The pre is just as responsible for sound as the amp ? correct? So my m-70 may sound different with a HK ? Was going to sell it but may hold onto it for awhile yet just to see I really admire your HT room and system youthman...........some day I will build my own. Wife wants a new camper this year so it will have to wait. I would love to see your HT with a nice pair of Forte ll's, lots of pics as your so good with a camera and a in depth thread of your thoughts. I miss mine dearly and will have another pair sooner than later. 3600 on ebay for $400 and free shipping, may as well pull the trigger!!!!
  13. I agree with that!! Every time I watch movies for some reason it will change settings for 2 channel and it upsets me.......... I have a buddy that bought a HK AVR last spring can't remember the model # but he is checking and I will know later tonight, maybe its the 3600!! best part is he will let me grab it to do some testing with my setup. I am very eager to get my RF7's dialed in for music. I have only heard them off the Yammie RX a1000 so I am really hoping its something exciting and can hear a cleaner HF and more low end from those beautiful copper cones. I am pretty happy with the HT sound just wish I had the RC7's and maybe a more powerful sub.
  14. I agree 100%!!! Very nice speakers. I too would love to hear them. I have a lot to learn.... How is the sound compared to the 83's? How would you describe the RF7 Classic compared to the 83?
  15. I own classic RF-7's Not Heresy but I have thought about klf 30 or rf 83's never heard either speaker tho so if anyone has a pair of either in the toledo ohio area let me know i would love to check them out!!!!
  16. I know there are some others using Yamaha Amps to power the 7's, Have any of you guys tried other amps that are considered warmer .......what are your thoughts as I have several manufacturers that have been suggested. I talked to my local dealer and they said the older yamaha amplifiers or "Transistor Amps" as he called it where known to be very bright and Yamaha in general new and old are not a good match. He also stated they do not demo klipsch and yamaha unless requested....... I think I know why now!!! He suggested mac but thats out of my price range and second choice would be rotel, but they sell both products so I am wondering if the guys there are right or steering me toward what they sell!
  17. Jeff, That was a mouthful of techno jargon but it does make some sense. It does surprise me you are letting my NAD amp(yours now) drive the low end and the beast McIntosh drive the mids/highs. I know the NAD does have good bass drive capabilities but I guess I can understand using the Mac on the tweeters because of it's reputation for being very smooth and controlled. You ever going to make it down to our neck of the woods? Bill That was my thought as well, never owned either of the amps, but more power to the LF as the HF is already more than enough!!
  18. Ok you lost me with vertical bi amping.......I had thought about bi amping from my RXA1000 and putting a resistor or something external on the hf to tone them down with out spending a lot..... Not sure if this would work. My son loves the speakers and everyone else thinks they sound great but I have way more senitive ears then everyone else does I guess because the hf is just piercing and all mudded together in my opinion. They play loud, no doubt about that. I have the RXA 1000 and the M-70 amp. as well as an older JVC receiver I thought about trying just to see if it is the yamaha amps with klipsch that are the problem for me. Let me know. Thanks
  19. You was right, pulled a woofer out and found one wire unhooked!! However, I reran the setup and it still set it at +7.5. Sounds much better now. Now that the 7's are back on the avr I will run setup again to see if anything changes......... not sure why it would but its worth a try. I cant see anything being wrong with the speaker as it sounds good
  20. Well after many hours of playing I have decided I do not like the sound of the m-70. I hooked back to the RX a1000 and sounds much better to me, but still on the bright side and can still hear the hiss on some tracks for 2 channel. I have considered doing the crossovers but will have a couple hundred in that with very noticeable...... but not day and night results (per what I have read here and elsewhere) I think my next move is going to be an amp as I planed from the start of this thread that way if I don't like it I can always resell or use it elsewhere. So I will be looking for an amp, used of course and have thoughts on adcom ,parasound, rotel or??? I know I want one on the warm side....with good bass but on the other hand my RX A1000 will feed the signal so how much will that shape the sound of any brand or model amp? I do a lot of movies/tv but listen to lots of music as well. Maybe I need two systems one for music and one for HT Any thoughts??
  21. What would the active xo gain me? I did find a few on ebay and looks like Rane is a well known one and there plentiful. what model and brand would you suggest. One unit will do both L and R channels right?
  22. One more thing.... I love the pandora and rhapsody features of the Yamaha. is there something out there similar in a pre amp or would this have to come from a different device? Not looking to do anything soon, just looking at options right now.
  23. I just bought the Yamaha a couple years ago and would like to replace sooner or later with individual units. Not sure where I should ask this question but I already have a yamaha m-70 what if I was to get another one and use both channels on one speaker....bi amping? never tried this before but would it not be like having mono amps....total channel separation? What would be the benifit on this setup, if any? Kinda new to this world of electronics and such but I am very eager to learn and would like input before I spring for anything else!!
  24. Yes i hear sound from all 3 drivers in the rc7. I have recently moved stuff around a bit and now the center is about 8" from the floor, not sure if thats why or what , I know thats not ideal, its temporary until I get my tv fixed which is happening in the morning, or lets hope.....i bought best buys warranty so we shall see. Thanks for all the help. I have been coming here for a couple years but have not posted much. I think this is a great site!!
