  1. i was told that usually the horn design with high sensitivity will get better sound from a tube amplifier(i have denon 3801 now). my RB-5 is 96db. so i also plan to get a tube for it. but really know nothing about the tube. i know RB-5 is not so hifi speaker such as klipschhorn. is it a good idea to upgrade to a tube? any proposals here? how many W is good for RB-5? 10?20?30? my budget is under 1000. and i prefer a intergrated one. it was said that you have to change the tubes when it's life ends. so i am not sure whether it is a good idea to buy some second hand tube from ebay? and how long a tube will works?(average) i know my question maybe is too basic to answer. but anyway thanks in advance.
  2. now i am comparing between the Adcom GDA-600 and MSB link III to upgrade my pioneer 343. my system is RB-5, RC-3,RS-3,denon AVR-3801 and SVS20-39pc. so which dac is bettet to my system no matter price, whether upgradable, or anything beyoned music. any instuction? thanks
  3. now, i have a pioneer DVD-343. i am considering to upgrade it. should i buy a CD player or a just add a DAC(on more than 400$ cd player or DAC MSB LINK IIIor II)? which choise will get better performance. BTW. what about NAD 541? i wanna a warm sound to balance my denon and RB-5 composition which is clean detail, but not warm enough in midrange. or u have better choise to recommandate within my budget? thx

  8. hey guys: i am quite new on this. i ordered a new SVS 20-39PC into my system, RB-5, RC-3 and RS-3 Denon AVR-3801. but really confused at the setting. firstly, i set all speakers to small. but the low frequency send into sub make it sounds too strong compare with mains. so i decide to setting large of RB-5. but now the beat from sub is not so clear. i cut sub at 50Hz, and volume at 4-5. the input is around +4db. cannot be better even after experience the around setting. the manual of SVS recommand all speaker should get 75db, but in my denon, at -11db(-12 is the bottom), it can reach 75. and the sound is not so good. have to change the input to -4db and get 84db now. and when i set by the SPL, i just only can set on 0 of volumn in my denon and just change my input level to get the target level, if i change the volumn knob, for instance to -2, after i quit, it will back to 0 again. do all receiver work in this way? not sure how to setting it. i know i should have more experiment. but does anyone can give me some idea how to do it. large or small of main, central, and surround? what input level should be? how to set the sub filter, ?Hz does the phase funtion works, how? thanks in advance
  9. also has the same ksw-12(box, manual and in excellent condition). interesting things is i bought it also 6 months ago and want to upgrading to SVS 20-39pc. so, if anybody want it, my price is around 250+ shipping fee. (don't wanna fight with myram:-)) . but we can talk on price, it is not firm. i am in NY city, if possible, u can check it out by yourself. email me if have interest. atomber@hotmail.com
  10. that's also my question. i am consideraing the 20-39CS or PS with samon. the power sub is more convient for me to connect. sorry for my limit konwledge on that. how to connect the CS and samon if i want to keep my KSW-12 with my surround RS-3. does 20-39PS match my system,or other model from SVS my room is around 30 MM RB-5 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 thanks
  11. hi bacevedo i have almost the same setup as yours. i mean 3801, RB-5 RC-3 RS-3 KSW-12 but now, i am not so satisfied with its performence. so i want to know what' your setup for that system. they including: KSW-12's setting volumn? and 60Hz or 80Hz? 3801's setting, 0db or sth else and other things you believe is important on setting. thanks
  12. i am not veteran, just try my best to be helpful. "phase" option make you can reduce the noise result from the overlap between main and sub. usually, it should be set in 0, if in your case 180 is better, you can change it. this option particular useful to that use satellite speakers. the crossover setting is depends on your main and setting of receiver.if your main setting in receiver is large , remember set it 10Hz over your main. if your main can play 50Hz, your sub should set at least 60, that will make your system cover all band of sound. you should set the small, that you should set it in line with your receiver's crossover, my denon is 80Hz, it means all sound under 80Hz will be send only to the sub other than the main. so you should set it around 80, and adjust it by your own ear. the setting of sub is not a easy thing, you should make your ear make the final decision.
  13. my system is RB5 RS-3 RC-3 KSW-12 and denon AVR-3801. but now, i believe i don't enjoy the full ability of my system. cos i have no idea on how to decide my system setting on the channel level. i read a article said i should set the the input level at 0 db(build-in test sound singal in DB Prologic) andd get a 85db (pink noise)out by a radio shack SPL. but when my denon is 0db input to RB-5, i get a over 90db at listening position. so i have to lower it to -4db input to get a 85db output. does anyone has the idea, how to set this, how much db i should get from my listening position on all speakers and sub and how much db i should set input to speakers and sub. is it ok use build-in signal to test or better use a test cd, where i get the test cd? thanks
  14. that depends how will you value the prologic II. you can read http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_1/dolby-prologic2-3-2001.html make your decision good luck

    RB-5 review?

now, i am going to buy the RB-5 RC-3 and RS-3(i have a KSW-12, Denon AVR-3801). before that, i have searched a lot in the internet including B&W, Mission, PSB,....my goal is find a decent bookshelf speaker in a reasonable price. RB-5 defeat others in my mind, although i know those brand maybe better than klipsch in floorstanding model. i try the synergy 6, but i give it up. i noticed that there are few review in the net on RB-5.(ecoustic has only one). so anybody knows where i can find more. or your own knowledge, experience(detail and not technical which i can find in klipsch). and what's your comment on my system. my room is 3.9m*3.6m. listem music is more often than watch movie. PS. i want to use the two cheaper quient for my suround back, is it a good idea? too more question? :-)) thanks a lot
