  1. Just for fun I stacked a few RS7's and made my own RS-74, at least that's what I'd call it. I'm trying out the Dual RC-7's as rears for now though...but if they don't work out we'll see how that RS-74 sounds
  2. Perhaps one day I will make it to the plant. It sounds pretty cool to me, I'd just have to convince the wifey. She celebrates her 29th birthday next January, perhaps I could tell her it's a pre 30th birthday blow out excursion! Lol
  3. I can only attest to what I own. Currently my primary viewing sets are a 37" Samsung LCD 120hz - 42" Panasonic Plasma 600hz - (2) Mitsubishi 65" 120hz - 50" Sony LCD 60Hz. I'll comment on the Mitsubishi's as they are whats relevant. This is a great TV overall and makes many reviewers lists in the best bang for your buck category. Slim? Hell no. Wall mountable? Nope. Excellent picture at an average viewing angle and distance? Depends on model but for the most part, yes. You can't touch this size and picture quality anywhere for the same money from an LCD/LED/PLASMA manufacturer. If this is going to be used in an HT/Media Room and you don't have 18" to spare than I would look at that issue first. Undeniably though, the prices can't be beat. Long story but I ended up with BOTH of my 65" Mitsubishis for $849 total when purchased through Dell. Dell seems to have the best sales on these, FYI. The original price was 1500 for one and they were on sale for 849. Obviously, I'm very pleased in my own bang for the buck equation But, in the end the decision is yours to make, best of luck!
  4. dtel, this is all very helpful information and thanks for sharing the pics. Pretty cool. I do know that the veneers are real wood and I suppose that I made the assumption that they were sprayed somewhere along the line prior to actually being used. Which begged the question "Can't you tell that this isn't right?", I mean even a simple properly sprayed piece of wood held next to it should tell you that much. Suffice to say that the pictures provided and input given by many has explained a lot. Thanks to all who have participated in this thread. I think I have a better understanding now.
  5. Bruce, I understand that the color or dis-coloration, as it may be, has nothing to do with the speakers performance. While I appreciate your input on the color topic (the bulk of your response was dealing with this), if you read my post than you should know that this was not the question at all. But thanks for your perspective Also, it should be pointed out that most Apple products are in fact "hand made". While the processor, board, ram, display may not be hand made, the final production most definitely is. This would be on par with a "hand made" Klipsch product. The MDF board used in a lot of Klipsch, the vinyl "veneer" used on a lot of Klipsch, the cerametallic cones, the plastic horns, the speaker grills, speaker grill cloth, feet, badges, port, etc., are not all hand made. They may be pieced together by "hand" in final production but how do Apple products differ than, in this respect? And yes, a bad Apple will fail but so will a bad Klipsch. I guess Im missing the point on that one, too.
  6. Actually, with respect to my original question, it is a matter of bad. Your example implies that all manufacturers have samples that make it through qc that eventually do not pass muster, which is probabaly true. I can see a manufacturer, like Apple for example, that makes millions of one model and has an unnacceptable rate somewhere in the 2-3% range being left with bad units. They do not sell these, although there are probably many many more bad units produced by apple then by Klipsch, when comparing acceptable vs unacceptable on an apples to oranges scale. Klipsch does not produce anything anywhere near the millions of units that apple produces, of say, an iPod. So, by your logic, although Klipsch produces way less of any given product then again, say apple, it makes so many bad ones due to human error that it is forced to sell them as "b" stock? That seems like a pretty high failure rate to me and one that should perhaps be looked into. The question was why do so many bad units make it through the initial qc. "so many" being the operative words here. Not, why does a small handful? That would be human error. This seems much larger than that. I've never seen a "b" model ford on the lot or a "b" model emotiva amp, if you want to look at a smaller volume manufacturer. This was an observation meant to drive discussion.
  7. I have heard of this being a problem for many owners. Most attribute the hum directly to the amp.
  8. Edit: due to double post I deleted this one. Read response below.
  9. Nice setup! Im a "Full timer" as well, in Michigan. Funny. At least were paid enough to keep up this habit Oh very nice, how long have you been with them? 8.5 years so far

  11. So, I know the difference between the two with respect to different colors and thats not what this post is about. My question is this, if these are a veneer and not "hardwood" then why would the "Bad" veneers even make it through Quality Control to be used to begin with? Why would this veneer be used and all of the effort put into making the speaker, only to have it later rejected? Im no wood worker and do not know how things work in this regard. Just curious.
  12. Are stands out of the question? If not, I've got some great ones that I use for mine. If so, have you considered building some "regular" shelves with a built in angle and a lip to keep it from sliding forward? The downside is that you pretty much need to get the angle right the first go. The upside is that you will not have to drill into the speaker and DIY shelves are really cheap.
  13. I'll respond to it tonight when I get home. The RC-7 was made to be paired with these, some have used the RC-64 with RF-7's and have had good results but it's not really ideal. I missed the question about the surrounds. The RS-7 would be best, closely followed by the RS-3's I suppose. Again, you could use something from the current reference line up and would probably still be pretty pleased. It all depends on your own likes. Current models like the rs-52II, rs-62II, rb-61II, rb-81II would be what your looking at. I wouldn't rule out older used speakers either though. Rb-5, rb-35, rb-75, rb-61, rb-81 would all fall somewhere between great and moderately suitable depending on personal tastes, when paired with RF-5's.

  15. Translaters are awful. Try opening up the sub and twisting the tube from the inside. It may break off in your hand, so be very careful. If you open the case, you may be able to get some PL adhesive, JB Weld, or other epoxy in there to seal the leak. Tape the port securely, so you don't end up gluing it at an angle. You've redeemed yourself by actually giving some good advice instead of your initial snarky remark, lol.
  16. Psst, I'll tell ya a secret. The guy that I bought the RC7 & RS7's from in Grand Rapids (your city last week, has a pair of RF5's that he wanted to sell me too. They're black and he told me that they had some scratching on the sides from moving (which is partially why I passed). He wanted 600 for them, no less. IMO a bit high for a non perfect pair (the other part of why I passed) but you may want them. Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll send you his info.
  17. Wowzers, amazing! You've done a great job here that should be commended.
  18. Here's the response sent to me by Klipsch (below) when I requested info from them. Note that the grill doesn't come with a badge on the front, you would have to find one elsewhere... 19. . Yes, one room about 24x18' I think. The second TV is used with the first in multi player video gaming because who needs split screens, lol. Also, it's for watching multiple sports games at once.
  20. Oh, and the RC7 is getting mounted atop the main TV so that the oak TV stand can go sideline while the nicer espresso TV stand that the other 65" is on will go back to the mainstage. Some of you may suggest nixing the closet to the right to open up the space for more breathing room amongst the fronts. Not gonna happen, as this is our beer/wine cellar and maintains (without refrigeration) 48-56 degrees year round
  21. I've still got a couple wires to tidy up on the RS and LB speakers (miscalculations). Also, I'll be adding much more LED lighting, I currently only have two 24" strings running but have another 20' to work with. BTW, the 27 color LED is the way to go! So many options when it comes to changing up your lighting arrangement/color. One of the 65" TV's is going to leave the room, it was free care of Dell (long story) and I had always intended on having two TV's down there but not three. I'll be adding a sectional and nixing the chairs as soon as me and my girl can make up our minds on which we want. I'm still searching for front heights which will also be added at some point. I know it may seem backwards but then once all of the decorum choices and hardware choices have been made, I'll yank everything and paint the room to suit. It should be noted that I also have about four boxes of acoustic treatment that will be integrated as necessary during final testing. So, that's it and I hope you like
