  1. Greetings HDBR, They insider info that you have provided on Klipsch is very interesting and helpful, and I was wondering if you could help answer my questions. I have a pair of 1976 LaScala's LS-BB that have coutersunk screws holding the top on. They look to be original, the previous owner even kept the mesh in place over the Klipsch Logo's that protect them in shipping. I have not seen any others like this. How is the top on the LaScala usually fastened? Should I fill them in and relacquer? Otherwise they are in very good shape and do not look like they have been refinished. Any info would be helpful. ------------------ HK AVR20 II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV Odyssey Stratos 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub
  2. Greetings Gentlemen, I have an oppurtunity to purchase a Cary SLP-30 Preamp and a SLA-30 Amp for $1,100. they are a older discontinued dealer demo with low hours. Since they are discontinued it's hard to find out any info on them. Has anyone had any experience with these? Is $1100 too high? Thanks, Greg ------------------ HK AVR20 II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV Odyssey Stratos 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub
  3. What they did to this speaker is an abomination unto the Lord. Or at least PWK http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1348490368 ------------------ HK AVR20 II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV Odyssey Stratos 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub This message has been edited by Gregorius on 04-24-2002 at 04:10 PM
  4. Thanks Guys, The pots sounded a little scratchy, and I didn't think the extra resistance was any good for the speaker that PWK designed, so I left the pots mounted and disconnected them, so I could put the wiring back to stock. I think it sounds better now without them in the circuit, i.e. more space in the music like it is in a larger room. I can always hook them back up if I want to experiment. 5. Greetings Gentlemen, I have a pair of 1976 LaScala's, in the back, in front of the AA networks there is a L-bracket with two pots mounted on it with tweeter and midrange silk screened below. Is this factory? If not somebody went to a great effort to make it look like it. I am also assuming that this is used to adjust the crossover point. Should I remove these? Can anyone offer some insight on this? ALK? 6. I have and older HK AVR20II that I use for 2 channel and my HT it is 60w x2 and it sounds very good on my Klipsch LaScala's. You would have to spend alot more money to get a better sound, and then if you decide to go HT, you would have a good start. ------------------ HK AVR20 II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV Odyssey Stratos 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub

  8. Greetings Gentlemen, I think all 9,152+ of us Klipschers should flood their email address with questions concerning his innovative horn-loaded speaker that PWK invented 30 years prior to his revelation. Or was that Mechanical Advantage? 9. I have a pair of 1976 Black Lacquer LaScala's I bought for $800. They had a few chips in the lacquer when I bought them, I just bought a can of Krylon Black Lacquer for $4 a can, sprayed them lightly, wet-sanded them between coats,and when dry the repair was virtually unnoticeable. ------------------ HK AVR20 II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV Odyssey Stratos 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub
  10. Thanks All, I was afraid that there was not enough power with SET amps. I like all kinds of music but I occasionally like to rock. Right now my limit is $1,000 (WAF) I know, but she did let me have a set of LaScala's :~) I'm afraid that any tube amp that has enough power will be out of my price range (I have never had tubes). Has anyone had any experience with the Odyssey Stratos? they are getting good reviews and it would fit into the budget. 11. Greetings Gentlemen, Has anyone here in this Forum heard or had any experience with DecWare tube amps? I am mostly concerned with sound and build quality, reliability. Any input would be useful. Thanks, Gregorius ------------------ HK AVR II Toshiba DVD 32" Toshiba TV 1976 LaScala's Front L&R KV-1 Center KG 1.5 Rear L&R KSW-12 Sub
  12. Thanks for the info, Mobile I was just wondering because because for not much more I could get a Conrad-Johnson PV10B Preamp and a MFC 2250 SS Amp 120w x 2. How does the Conrad Johnson SS compare? (I have never had tubes before) gc BTW I was stationed at Ft. Bragg about 20 yrs ago been to Wrightsville Beach many times, that I can remember.:-}
  13. Greetings, I have a set of 1976 LaScala's being driven by a HK AVR 20 II. I am looking to upgrade my 2 channel sound with tubes, and have a chance to buy a dealer demo Cary Audio SLA-30 amp and a SLP-30 Preamp that are no longer in production, for $1,500. Is this a good deal, and will this be enough power for the LaScala's? I believe the Amp is 30Wx2. Thanks
  14. Thanks Guys, I am trying to upgrade my Home Theater a little at a time. I have the folowing setup now that I have bought, mostly used: HK AVR 20 II 1976 La Scala's Black (L&R) KV-1 (Center) KSW-12 (Sub) KG-1.5 (L&R Rears) 32" Toshiba TV Toshiba SD1600 DVD 2 Hitachi HiFi 4head VCR's(For Copying) I was just looking for options for upgrading my Receiver or possibly going with a separate Amp.
  15. Does Harmon Kardon make decent A/V recievers? Opinions?Comments? If not what would be a good choice for $1,000-$1,500. Thanks Greg
  16. Thanks Guys, I got them for $800, took them home hooked them up to my Harmon Kardon AVR 20 II, put on some Mozart and the sound brought tears to my eyes. PWK knew what he was doing. Thanks again, Greg
  17. Someone here locally has a set of late 80's La Scala in raw birch, real good condition. He wants $1,000 or best offer. What is a good price to offer him for these?
