  1. Hey all, Signed on the forums in 2001, last post was 2012. Feels good to be home.😁 I am considering replacing the Synergy Quintet II system that I have on my PC and replacing it with more of a real home theatre setup. But I also Mix Video on the PC. But can use cans for editing. My question today is on the Subwoofer Because my old JBL PSW-D110 That I bought from an auction house in 2001 finally died (considering the average life expectance of that Sub was one yr. guess I got my $$ worth). In my Living Room, on that 5.1 system I have my old Klipsch 10" Downward firing Sub. Still doing it's Duty. But since my wife passed, it is not an everyday driver, like my PC is. I do need to replace the down and out JBL I am leaning toward the R-12SW mostly because of price. Since I used to hang out here daily in the PC Speaker area as Geezerpunk, I am finally on permanent disability. Something like the R-120SW is not undoable, I just put the money on a debit card and save up for it over two months instead of just buying it at the start of the month. The Studio where I have my computer and shoot my YouTube Videos (I am just starting by the way) is about 75% the size of the Living room maybe about 12'x14'. Three of the walls used to be external walls so they are fairly reflective to sound. With the Surface Medium being Lathe and Horsehair plaster. Should I move the old 10" sub from the Living room into the Studio, where the volume would be less but the duty cycle would be 400% more? Or put the new sub on the Studio? Is the 12" overkill, or does it lack something I should consider that maybe competing product might have? Thanks in Advance, Geezer.
  2. I just purchased a pair of F-2 speakers used, one has a scratch that I thought I could fix with a sharpie and a little buffing, but the other has a chip where the MDF is visable. Any suggestions on how to fill it and hide the damage? Also, how easy is it to fix and replace the cloth on the grills?
  3. There are a couple of chips on the black finish on these speakers were the MDF shows through as well as a small water stain from a glass of water. Any advice on repair of the finish?
  4. Well now that my wife has separated from me and I can get larger speakers, I am upgrading my mini speaker setup (first generation Quints). I purchased a pair of F2 Floorstanding speakers. The speakers are in good shape, but the grills are trashed, I got the pair for $150 so I couldn't say no. Anyone know if I can still get replacement grills. What speakers would pair well with these for 5.1 or better. Right now I will probably still be using the Quints until I can replace these too. Andy
  5. What type of soundcard? What brand were the other speakers that you tried? Could the other speakers have been digital? ------------------ Andy Faull -- Language is a virus from Outer Space -William S. Burroughs
  6. It sounds like they are the V2.400's. They are the one without a headphone jack. Where did you get them? Is there a Klipsch Authorized Sales (and maybe service) center near you? Even if you have to corrispond by phone or E-mail with them, they might be able to assist you. ------------------ Andy Faull -- Language is a virus from Outer Space -William S. Burroughs
  7. If you want to talk about the best soundcard for .wav, mp3, CDs, etc. I would have to take my M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Nothing like 24 Bit .wavs (that I record) and although the board can sample at 96K, I find that 88.2 is more than sufficient. ------------------ Andy Faull -- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -- Albert Einstein
  8. I know that I bought the CP1 as an upgraded Control Pod for my .V2-400s. I think that it is still the upgrade pod for them. I think the 4.1 pod is different. I'm not sure though. I'd contact Amy promediatech@klipsch.com or call her at1-888-554-5665. Even though your 4.1s might be off warantee, you could probably find out from here the cost and best way to get a replacement control pod. I don't know about any new speaks due out in the next year, but most companies are tight lipped about any new development until they are ready for release. But since the 5.1s are now just geting reliable and just getting into the retail chain, I think that they will still be the mainstay for the next year or two anyway. But again that's just my guesstimate ------------------ Andy Faull -- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -- Albert Einstein
  9. Well I was looking forward to implimenting a mod to Hofy's Duct Tape Mounting System using an upgrade of bailing twine to support some extra weight that would be involved in adapting the HDTMS to work with the Quints, but alas; My wife noticed that they had mounting brackets already and hid the duct tape from me. Hey, I wonder if I could mount my amp to the wall (or my desk) with duct tape? Or then again maybe my sub... ------------------ Andy Faull -- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -- Albert Einstein
  10. Needing a little more than the promedias I put together a sound system for my computer (Limited budget), however; I have a question on the sub setup. My powered sub (JBL) suggests using a preamp for the front L-R into the sub, then the L-R output from the sub to the L-R in on the HT Amp. The sub has both Low-Pass & High-Pass crossover adjustments. Would this be the best way? Or would it be better to just plug my computers 5.1 to the amp and just use Sub Pre-out. Here is a little more info on my system. PC - Sound Card 1 (5.1) - Soundblaster Audigy Plat. (Connected to 5.1 in connectors on Amp. Sound Card 2 (L-R) - M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (Connected to CD on amp. Amp - Pioneer VSX-D509 (Programmable internal Crossover) Sub - JBL PSW-D11 Spkrs - Quintets (5) One for each channel. I did buy an actual center speaker, but it was too big for my desk so I replaced the Bose center in my HT system. ------------------ Andy Faull -- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -- Albert Einstein This message has been edited by ajfaull on 11-21-2001 at 07:32 PM
