  1. Close up of the finish. This is Duratex. I love this finish.
  2. That's all for tonite. I will be working on this in the evenings after work, if it isn't too cold. Darn full garage. [:@] I haven't gotten an amp yet. What do you all suggest? The Bash 300 from PartsExpress or the Oaudio Bash 300? Which one do you all like and do I have to do any mods to either one to get rid of the Bass boost?
  3. That plywood looks pretty good, but what you look for is voids in the lamination. The best plywood is imported Baltic Birch or Russian Birch. It is quite expensive, and quite heavy. Baltic Birch is about $58 for a 5' X 5' sheet of 3/4". Compare that 25 square ft of this costs $58, and the laminate veneer stuff you thought you were paying a ton for was $50 for 32 square ft. You are paying an overhead for shipping for sure! I know. I would have gone with Baltic Birch, But it is only available in half inch in my area.
  4. One more. Sorry I did not get more pictures of the construction of the stand, but I got busy building and forgot.
  5. Second day I cut the rest of the wood and also cut some wood for a stand for the 73 inch Mitsubishi tv to stand on. The Lab 12 will fit underneath. I designed the stand myself. I am not a wood worker by any means, but I think it came out alright. I will fill and sand the stand, and finish it with Duratex before I install it. I am also going to roundover the edges with a router.
  6. Next day. Have a small pile of wood on the barrel and some more that is not in this pic.
  7. This is either 11 or 13 ply. Depends if you count the veneers. It was the only thing available. Got it from Lowes. Nearly 50 bucks a sheet. Next best was a lot cheaper but crooked as hell and only five plys. It's only money, right.
  8. Cutting with straight edge of a fresh piece of wood. I used the methods described by CECAA850 in the "Plywood Cutting Tutorial" thread. This worked out great. Had to make a pair of sawhorses first.
  9. Carport and my new sawhorses.First day well into the night.
  10. I am building a Lab 12 Tapped Horn. I will get as many pictures as I can. My garage is too full to work in, so I am building it under the carporch.
  11. I just bought some "DuraTex" sold by http://store.acrytech.com/Speaker-Cabinet-Coatings/ It will be here in a few days. This stuff is the sh!t. Go on you tube and look at some of the videos. I am going to build a tapped horn and use this. I don't think you can do any better if you are going with a black or white finish. Bill
  12. I can wait. Only want to do this once. Bill
  13. I just noticed what you said about the more expensive 15 inch driver and about three inches higher. Must have missed it earlier. Can you model it? I think a lot of folks would like that. I do not have room for two. When you say "double your output" , What does that mean? SPL or Lower freqency? Thanks, Bill
  14. Thanks, That was what I was looking for. Bill
  15. I meant a layout for cutting the plywood for the Lab 12 tapped horn.
  16. Does anyone have a cutsheet for the Lab 12?
  17. First, let me apologize for not responding earlier. I have been very busy at work and I have preparations for my daughter's upcoming wedding that are taking all of my free time. Thanks for all the replies. I have been reading as much as I can find on the horns and tapped horns. I am liking the F-20. I am going to put an isolated top on it for the tv. CECAA850, I wish I was closer to you. I have read where you have built several horns and such. I would like to hear some in person. Do you have any more links to lilmikes other projects or designs? Also is the Anarchy Tapped Horn coming back? I see it is out of stock.
  18. I want to build a table tuba or tapped horn. I am leaning toward the tapped horn. I have been reading on this for days. My Mitsubishi 73 inch tv will sit on top of it. It needs to be 18 - 20 inches tall. It can be up to 66 inches wide. It can be a max of 30 inches deep. I want 3/4 mdf. I want the lowest hertz and highest SPL possible. Any suggestions? Looking for plans to build. Thanks Bill
  19. I got the little Lepai amp and finally got to try it with my Quartets. Let me say I was quite impressed. It will go loud enough that you have to raise your voice inside to have a conversation. I love them Klipsch.
  20. If I wanted to set up a portable two channel system with a pair of Klipsch Quartets, "SENSITIVITY: 97.5dB @ 1watt/1meter", and an Ipod, would this little T Amp from Parts Express at 20 watts per channel perform well? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=310-300 What kind of volume could I expect? If not, what would you think would be the minimum watts per channel to get some semi serious volume? Thanks, Bill
