  1. I've haven't heard them but I have heard of them -- the ESS AMT1B's that I recently picked up at a garage sale. The design (shape) was unmistakable from the road when I drove by and picked them up for $50. Nice condition also. Only trouble is one speaker is totally dead so I hope it's a fuse - gotta open her up to find it, though. Wish me luck!

  2. Hi,

I've asked you guys questions before about room sizes for Cornwalls and got great feedback - (the good kind, not the bad kind-lol). So after a bit of back and forth with the wife, in the house I'm planning to build - the dedicated 2 channel room went from a bad 12'x12' by 8 foot high to 12'x15' by 9 foot high. Now, thanks to LarryC's photo of his Klipschorn's in his white room, my wife likes the look of his K-horns set in the corners and has given her ok for getting them over the Cornwalls. I'm a lucky guy! My questions are - Would going to K-horns mean 10 foot ceilings be better than 9 foot, or is staying with 9 foot ok? And how about placement - would there be much difference in sonics setting them up against the 12 foot wall as compared to setting them up against the 15 foot wall? I will be using an H H Scott 299C ( newly refurbished ) to power them so I'm thinking they should sound fairly awesome.

Thanks for all your help, really!!!

  3. Hi , I have an H.H. Scott 299C amp and was planning to get a pair of Corwalls for it. Due to my finding info on all speakers, I came across a speaker kit known as Cornscalas which are a cross between Cornwalls and LaScalas. Are these Cornscalas measureably better than Cornwalls and LaScalas and I assume my amp should be able to handle them? Thanks!

  4. A Wave radio...........no, I got a Boombox!

Actually, as my story goes - I was in the Air Force in the early 70's and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi.

I was walking by a music shop and heard the most beautiful classical music. I trotted in and found out I was

listening to a pair of Cornwalls they were selling. That's what sold me on them ever since and figured I'd buy

a pair when I had the means to build a room for 2 channel music. The room will be about 11'x 15' x 9' high

with the Cornwalls being against the 11' wall in the corners and sitting 12 to 14 feet away. I can't really go

bigger as costs run $175 a square foot, but my question was would La Scala's work in that size room also

or should I stick to the Cornwalls?

  5. Hi everyone,

I'm designing a home for my family which will be built in about 6 to 8 months. I've got my dedicated listening room also known as the "Musical Man Cave" with the dimensions of 11 feet by 15 feet with a 9 foot high ceiling. I'll have a newly redone H.H.Scott 299C amp with my Thorens turntable (from the mid-eighties) and a nice CD player. I originally pictured having Cornwalls against the 11 foot wall. But after reading many posts here, I'm wondering if I should look into La Scala's instead. My question is would they work better in that size room than Cornwalls, or should I stick with the Cornwalls?? What difference could I expect between them? Thank you!

  6. Well Guys, you did it !!!!!!! After reading your remarks about the best size room for 2 channel listening and showing my wife what your suggestions were, we are now bugeting for a more correct sized room. So instead of 12 x 12 feet, we are going with 11 x 15 foot which sounds better. My question now is what would be the magic height to optimize the sound coming out of the Cornwalls? 8 foot, 9 foot or 10 foot ceilings?

    Thank you!

    Steve

P.S. Just wondered how would a pair of La Scala's stack up against the Cornwalls in that room using an H H Scott 299C amp? I see they are a bit narrower than Cornwalls but deeper depth (For lower Bass??)

  7. Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone here can help me. I'm building a house and want a dedicated room for 2 channel music. A musical man cave, if you will. I already figured out that for my surrond sound in the living room I'm going with the RF-7 II system just because of what I've read through this and other forums. Now, for a little backround....... while stationed in Biloxi, Miss in the Air Force in the mid 1970's I came across a store that was playing a pair of Cornwalls in their soundroom. Needless to say I was blown away by the clarity and richness........ well you know what I mean. Anyway ever since then I wanted a pair for listening to music.

The past 6 months or so I've been trying to find a store that demos Cornwalls so my wife can hear. Being silly, she sorta objects to the size of them but I told her that if she listens to them the size will not matter. I plan on using an H.H. Scott 299C redone by Craig Otsby with a really good CD player and my old Thorens TD 170 from the mid 80's. { Another quick question is looking for a new cartridge that works well with Klipsch and tube amps! }. I listen to Jazz, Gershwin, Beatles, ELO, John Barry & Bernard Herrman soundtracks ( Goldfinger, North by Northwest, Vertigo - to name a few) and classical.

I know I'm boring everyone, but here's my question; being that building costs are $ 175 a square foot - I'm looking at about 12' x12' by 10 foot high room for my 2 channel room. Would the Cornwalls be too boomy, or whatever the correct term is, or would, say the Heresy III work better in that sized room. (and would I be happy with the Heresy after listening to the Cornwalls?) I could be wrong but the Heresy's look like a scaled down Cornwall. I spoke to a road-rep of Klipsch to see where I could demo either of them. He said they are dinosaurs and if I wanted great music in that sized room to go with the RF-7 II's as they are more refined { his terms, not mine }.

That's my question (or questions) - would the Cornwall work or would the Heresy be better - or would the RF-7 II's be better. Any more info needed, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Steve
