  1. Using the merlin tool on the SVS website they suggest one of these 3 ... PC12-NSD - $750 SB12-NSD -$650 PB12-NSD - $769 I like the style of the PC12-NSD and might fit snug. I do 50/50 music movies. I've been looking for Deals on these subs but they seem so very exclusive and everyone that owns them never wants to sell them! That's the other thing, anyone know where I can look for a used one of these bad boys? I was looking at HSU but heard it's more musical but is a little cheaper price range wise. I have a Synergy Sub-10 right now and it's rumbly and easily gets loud just doesn't have that nice clean sound I want.
  2. This my floor plan. Id be about 5 or 6 ft in front of the tv if I did it that way. My couches are where the fireplace is pictured. My tv is where it shows a dining room. http://www.mungo.com/images/elevations/634389721010642500-underwoodABf1.png
  3. I have two satellite speakers for right now and they are about 4 feet above the main listening position (cannot do 2 feet as recommended) and pointed directly at a sweet spot. Should I have the point at a wall or in front of the sweet spot since surround speakers are meant to not be aimed at you?
  4. I believe at least for a sub, it will set the distance even further than it actually is to compensate for a delay in sound.
  5. I jumped on the new egg sale. I'm using WF-34 and WC-24 for center. A good receiver does wonders but I can see where the Center might be a little weak. I usually have it bumped 2 db for movies. I was just listening to some music on the wf-34 yesterday and they filled up the room wonderfully and sound so much better when you crank them (at least to me). They had no issues with music. Movies are definitely an upgrade from my quintet set, I am impressed with the towers. Also they do look very pretty I never tried the RF series but if they are the must have for movies I will eventually grab them. The bass on the WF-34 is almost non-existent, but my denon said it could go to 40hz but you definitely don't get a thump from them. I have my synergy sub which does very well and I have no complaints. I only seen a few movies since getting my denon/audyssey which was a night and day upgrade from my old onkyo.
  6. I have upgraded from a onkyo tx-sr504 which I think was about 8 years old. I now have a Denon 1712 and wow, I mean it's incredible night and day. It has Audyssey XT, this thing makes my movies sound amazing! I haven't done music, but my Onkyo seemed pretty good to power my Fronts. I can distinctly and clearly hear sound from every speaker. I was thinking of buying surround speakers (ws-24) but the receiver does an amazing job with my quintet satellites as surrounds. Besides all the configurations you can do and the convinience of HDMI switching, this receiver blew me out of the water in performance.
  7. I have klipsch icon wf-34 and wc-24. I also have a synergy 10in sub that been working fine. Just curious if I should jump On this new egg deal of $300 free shipping and no tax. Will a reference series sub mingle with my icons? Will I notice That much of a difference? I would then try to sell the synergy Sub for a $100 or more hopefully. New egg deal ends Feb 15.
  8. I am able to snag a denon 1712 for $300 new with 2 yr warranty so Monday I will order that. Btw I've been waiting and looking for ws-24 for my rears but seem pricey anyhow . There's wb-14 On new egg for $200 a pair which is a crazy good deal. Would there be substantial Loss of quality by using bookshelf over surrounds as the surround speakers?
  9. I have a 47 inch tv but showcasing my pride and joy! +
  10. http://www.electronics-expo.com/denon-avr2112ci-integrated-network-a-v-surround-receiver-ob Anyone use electronics expo? This is open box and still has all its factory warranty and is a denon 2112ci It is $450 shipped. Has all bells and whistles, pretty crazy savings cause it is open Box. That doesn't bother me . Includes air play, network connectivity, audessey xt. Web interfaces To control it. Basically gets audyssey xt at the same price as the 1912 And a little more that sounds good but I don't care to have but Would use. It's 90w per channel and I've read having 90 or 100 watt Per channel is unnoticeable.
  11. Here are some choices I like : Denon 1912 (but has no multi eq xt...is that needed?) 2112-ci but a bit pricey? Neither don't have dolby volume which I sort of want. Marantz 5006... I can get refurbished around $500. If I had to chose between denon and marantz what should it be? Harmony kardon seems pricey and doesn't have airplay and want prehiphereals for ipod!. I have looked at yamaha but denon and marantz seem more prestigous.
  12. Hey guys, So I got a handsome amount of tax return money and have been eyeing a new receiver to replace my ancient Onkyo tx-sr504. It holds up pretty well but I think I can do better. There are so many choices and wanted to see if I can possibly not break the bank but maybe I can splurge if it's worth it. Here's a pic of my setup. I have a WC-24 and two WF-34 towers. They are pretty close together, hopefully I can get a new house someday so I can have them spaced apart. Also I have two Quintet satelite speakers in the rear (would like to upgrade them babies too one day). Here's what I was looking for in a receiver: -Airplay -HDMI output (mine doesn't have it!) -Crossover frequency adjustment on all channels? -Wireless networking if it's beneficial... I don't know what I would use it for. -7.1, maybe one day I can use the extra two channels. Also another benefit of getting a new receiver, I would use the old one for my upstairs bedroom, since I Have 3 speakers from the quintet that I don't use. Anyhow I'm not really loyal to any receiver brand, I've heard Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Denon, and Yamaha as all being great. BTW I had a question, I use the PS3 for a lot of things, but if I had a receiver with HDMI inputs, is there any benefit to using the optical output over the HDMI output for audio? As far as I know they are both digital signals. I was just looking at this: Harman/Kardon AVR 2600 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver Harmon Kardon I'm going to check out the garage sale section too..
  13. Awesome, you've been amazing! Last night we listened to some music, it was pretty good stuff. I've been using the direct line setting, heard it was good to use for music, unless classical or orchestration, where you would want to use a setting for that to represent a hall effect. Anyhow I didn't realize how old my amp really was. I don't know if it would make much of a difference or not but as you said it shouldn't matter. I was just browsing around leisurely at accessories4less. All I would care to have is HDMI and wireless air play/network capabilities. Also saw that pre-out on an amp is if I have another amp laying around so I wouldn't need that right? I'll probably wait until tax season comes and see how much I have left over anyhow. There must be a quality difference between amps/receivers if some cost $1000 and others are $200 right? Or is it just features? Can one receiver send a better sound to your speakers than another one? Not necessarily talking about wattage but the signal? I am going to try some games on the speakers in a bit and watch a full movie tonight. I turned up the center and it sounded better, was watching a netflix show and could hear the people talk for once! I'll have to switch the phase to 0. I cannot say that i've listened to a nice sub over a crappy sub... I guess there can be a difference. I just expect the one I have to shake up the house a little bit and that is ok with me.
  14. Yes. When you are using a receiver with crossovers, you disable the one on the sub. Once you get everything set up and sounding as good as you can, you can play with the knob, but do not rely on it, as you will hurt movies' soundtracks. They send sound below 120hz as a standard LFE. For that, you need a newer receiver. Not brand new, just latest enough model with individual speaker configuration. Setting your mains as large, if you have too much bass now that you are diabling the LPF cam on the sub, just turn the double bass off and see how that does. The importance of going to all this trouble is to get movies and music to sound good. If you tune it for one, the other may suffer. An added plus is you learn your system. newegg jumps around a LOT! I expected sales on cyber Monday to be great, and they were higher than the Sat-Sun sale. For instance the 12d sub u could get for $299 on Sunday was on sale for $499 on cyber Monday. crazy.. I cannot disable the lpf on the sub unless cramming up the lpf is essentially doing that. Here's a pic of the sub I have the phase set to 180 I think...don't remember touching that. Auto switch. Top switch is volume. I have the sub plugged into the left lfe port. Yea I really wanted that ref 12 d sub but couldn't justify it .
  15. Yes I put the sub low pass as low as it can go (which is 40). The mains are still set to large and seem to get a good amount of the bass work. So you suggest the sub passover to be as high as it cam go? It would be about what you said.... 140 or so. I will crank up the center a bit too, that should help. Yea I do only have one xover setting for the amp, it'd be nice to configure all speakers individually. I saw that new egg cranked the price back to $600 each! I really want the ws speakers now but I can hold off for now.
  16. Alright now I have time to write up about my speakers. I turned up the double bass and at more than half the volume the SW is sounding "normal" with music. Still seems like a lot to turn up! I put the pass over to 40HZ and the amp cross over to 80Hz. Seems like the center should be a tad louder with the voices, most of the time it's pretty clear/cut though, much more often than it use to be. I don't know how to explain but the speakers are like a "pleasant" loud when they are turned up. It's like you HAVE to watch a movie with them turned up pretty loud. I really wish I had some more room to separate the speakers, when you sit right in front you can easily (and pretty excitinlgly) hear a distinction between all 3 channels up front. When 15 ft away (furthest couch) you kind of lose that since my TV is on a pretty small wall. The bass from the floors do not seem to "shake" or anything but seems pretty loud and distinctive. I was listening to Journey on cd and it was pretty great to turn it up pretty high on the amp. It's as if you are surrounded by the speakers. I like the clairty. Back to movies... sometimes it's a little quiet when normal talking is going on or nothing is exploding then as soon as action kicks in, it's a little too loud. I'm looking at my receiver instructions... it shows: This section explains how to specify your speaker configuration. For speakers with a cone diameter larger than 6-1/2 inches (16 cm), specify Large (full band) . For those with a smaller diameter, specify Small (default crossover 100 Hz) . The crossover frequency can be changed on page 55. Since the cones on the floorstanders are 4.5" should they be "SMALL" ? Also Crossover, does that mean the range before the sub gets it? Also the manual has: Speaker cone diameter Crossover frequency Over 8 in. (20 cm) 40/50/60Hz* 6-1/2 to 8 in. (16–20 cm) 80Hz 5-1/4 to 6-1/2 in. 13–16 cm) 100Hz (default) 3-1/2 to 5-1/4 in. 9–13 cm) 120Hz Under 3-1/2 in. (9 cm) 150/200Hz* WF-34 is: FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 50Hz-23kHz +/-3dB The manual also states: • Choose a higher crossover frequency if you want more sound from your subwoofer. I'm not sure if I do or don't, have to listen to it. Anyhow I am loving it! I'll update some more after getting more time with it.
  17. Yea we got the sub bumping. Hopefully we don't forget to adjust playing movies. Friends keep saying get a new amp but I'm telling them no
  18. Just got them and man are they awesome! I watched batman on bluray and it was amazing! Makes me want to watch all my movies again. Now I have some questions. My sw doesn't seem to be kicking in when listening to a cd? Thesse wf-34 have some awesome bass sound... I wasn't expecting it cause I kept hearing the bass isn 't too good on them. Well the sw bass does come in, its just barely there. On the amp I have crossover set to 80 ? On the bass the lowpass is 80 as well. Maybe its the lows that I head on wf-34. I have center set as small. Fronts large. I'm listening on direct mode right now.
  19. It says recommended power on the center is 100 watt. My receiver is 7.1 and 75 waitt per channel. Should I upgrade? What would be a good amp with hdmi for cheap if I should.
  20. Newegg 2 wf-34 ($250 EA) 1 wc-24 ($200 EA) Samsung 490 ( I actually have one already and Its a gift, its $1 after rebate!) Usb car charger ($5) Amazon Watch $20 The kings speech blue ray $11
  21. is kf26($174 BB) or kf28 ($224 BB) > wf34 ($250 new egg) ??? The look of the wf34 is very nice at least. I think it's too late for me to change anything but I have synergy right now and bought a pair of wf34.
  22. I don't have the 3000 budget option but I did pick up the wf-34 pair and a wc-24 from new egg, $700 total with free shipping and no taxes. Hopefully it meets my needs and is a upgrade that is noticeable and worth it over my synergy quintet set.
  23. I bought the wf-34s! I really hope its worth it, some friends and family don't think its worth it even though its a very good deal with no tax and free shipping. Out of curiosity I went to hhgregg and they had kf series floors speakers for $190 (employee at cost rate cause my bro works there.). These were the cheapest kf series, synergy I think. So after realizing its only $120 more (before taxes) for icon level I jumped on it. I cannot move the speakers along the long wall. The tv is mounted. Also I have a synergy 10 in sub , should that still be used on my setup? Onkyo receiver at KC-24, 2 kf-34, 2 rear synergy satelittes from quintet, 10 in synergy sub. My receiver is a onkyo tx-sr504
  24. Are the bookshelf speakers intended as fronts or tears?. I am on the edge of getting the floors though. My living room is quite small.I'd say 18 ft long but the speakers wood be about 5 ft apart since its a small wall they could fit on. This is my starter home so I will eventually move
  25. I'm poor! I have a sub, I heard icons just don't have a bass
