  1. I would say leaving her with (a) that information and ( him locked up in her house might be a good start on his punishment. Lou
  2. They could make this into the cruise ship version of "Airplane" but everyone would think that "Airplane" is the one based on a true story. Italy may be able to avoid bankruptcy if they can figure out a way to get paid for this captain's absurdities. All the late night talk shows are getting way too much free material out of him. Lou
  3. I like the wood one with the retro feet (and cerametallic woofs?) better. Also want to use it as a center channel, not a wireless stereo from my iPhone. How about it, Klipsch? Help a guy out? [] Lou
  4. They used to. People hated it, especially in college football. See Notre Dame vs Michigan State, 1966 for an especially egregious example. And in pro ball, it can still end in a tie (during the regular season) if neither team scores in 15 minutes of OT. Lou
  5. Don't know -- I've been afraid to sign in. The only positive I can see in the changes so far is that it "looks" better, superficially. The photo display system is better. But it's lost funtionality. Used to be you could click on the seller's zipcode and get the name of the town, click on the shipping cost and it automatically filled in the "From", "Weight" and "Value" fields for the shipping calculator. And I used to like to browse through the "New 2 Days" list and hover over stuff I didn't recognize, so I could see what category of equipment it was. All that seems to be gone and the thing is wicked slow to boot. "Train wreck" hit the nail on the head, I think. They should allow people to choose the old-style site if they so wish. I'm guessing they really don't want to see the numbers from that kind of choice however. Lou
  6. There is a general search box in the upper right, just above the yellow bar. But I agree with all the negative comments so far -- the site has lost its browse-appeal. Lou
  7. Thank you. I might actually be an extreme wacko, but as I said above, my intent with this question was purely practical and regarding my own admitted prejudices. Not trying to create a never-ending political discussion. And I wound up pretty much where I thought I would be going in -- Heritage series or RF-7 (I or II). I do appreciate getting the confirmation from the more seasoned folks however. Not worried really. I moderated a theology discussion list for years. Even the tube vs SS (or Klipsch vs -- hmm, what would be the other extreme -- Quad?) don't rise to the sort of heat we used to see there on a regular basis, at least not in my experience. Very much thinking about Cornwalls, and ironically I was in San Antonio for 4 out of 5 weeks recently. No time for fun, though. A return trip is not out of the question, so expect a PM re: your Cornwalls. Lou
  8. Gotta admit, I was a little worried when I asked the question that people might go Clintonian on defining "Made in the USA". For the purposes of this discussion (and seeing as I already have enough info to go forward on), take the common-sense approach of "lets the MFR legally put the 'Made in USA' sticker on the product". Or, say, final assy and QC checks in the US. "Special" forum -- you mean, like for "special people"? Sounds scary. [] Seriously, not sure how much time I would have. Only have a little at present due to the holidays, but I'm game. Thanks again all, Lou
  9. I see it pretty much the same as StephenM, with a particular emphasis on the dismal human rights record of China and Malaysia in particular. As to searching to "learn to use the site": I did. Spent several hours at it actually. While there are lots of threads discussing the issue, there are very few actual answers in those threads. The only thing that seems solid is that the Hertage series is still built in the USA, as was the original RF-7. Can't tell about the RF7-II, and everything else seems to be Chinese. All of which still leaves the historical part of the question up for grabs. Is it safe to assume older Klipsch models (Chorus, Forte, Quartet, KG-4, Belle, and so on) were made in the USA? Appreciate the responses, Lou
  10. My younger son is Mayan. The Mayan calendar doesn't end in 2012; it just finishes a long cycle. The Mayans were too smart to make a calendar that "ends". Recommend not breaking anything on or near 12/20/12. Lou
  11. Hoping you all a Merry Christmas and are headed for a Happy New Year. I asked this in another thread, but it seems to have died so I'll ask again. Is there a list somewhere of Klipsch models that are/were made in the USA? Thanks, Lou
  12. S4A headphones: http://www.klipsch.com/image-S4A-headphones I've used several different wireless systems, Bluetooth in my car, AirPlay at home. The only one that has produced OK sound quality was the audioengine AW-1 wireless pair. I'm guessing if you want Klipsch you want sound quality. Staying "on the wire" sounds better, at least until you reach the like of the Logitech Sqeezebox or Transporter. At least for me. IF you get an iPhone (I have a 4, but they're all the same in this regard, including the 4S), you'll get much better sound quality taking the line level out (bottom connector -- requires a special adapter cable but they're cheap) and an external volume control than using the headphone jack on the top. No idea if the same is true on Android phones or not. Lou
  13. This is the sort of delusional thinking that makes people wonder about Alabama fans in general. Had LSU lost the game they would have dropped no further than Alabama did, and would more certainly than Alabama be back in the #2 slot right now (due to a much more difficult schedule than Alabama). We'd still be having the same rematch for the Mythical National Championship, only LSU would be in the advantaged position, having lost the regular season game.
  14. Yeah, oldtimer, people forget the early Elway years. And they forget that Denver's first Super Bowl win was on the legs of Terrell Davis, not Elway's arm. As a reminder, - Elway started 10 games in 1983. He was 4-6, 123/259 (47.5%) for 1663 yds, 7 TDs, 14 INTs, 1 GWD (Game-Winning Drive). - Tebow has started 12 games so far. He is 8-4, 148/302 (49%) for 2138 yds, 16 TDs, 5 INTs, 6 GWDs. Football in general, and even success at the QB position, is about more than pure passing talent.
  15. Thanks, Carl. I'm just north of Orlando, FL. There is a dealer about an hour away, over in Daytona Beach, who stocks the heritage line. Think I'll call over there and see what they have and then go from there. How many of the lines are actually made in the U.S.? I thought it was limited to the heritage series and the RF-7s? I'd be happy to be wrong about that. Lou
  16. "Any team that does not win their conference should not play for the National Championship." - Nick Saban, 2006
  17. OK, I realize nobody can really pinpoint that answer in a forum, but I'm trying to get to a short list of models for audition. Needs to work in two different medium-sized rooms, one about 15x18 with a pitched ceiling, the other about 20x14 also with a pitched ceiling. The former is wood floor with large throw rug, the latter carpeted. I like articulation in the bass over sheer impact, but I like it to go reasonably deep, mid-30s or below (in room of course). In the mids, gotta get female vocals right and be able to differentiate instruments (trumpet vs cornet, violin vs viola, etc). Happy to trade some extension or "air" in the highs for a lack of glare. Needs to do work for both music and movies (I have kids), but so far I've found that if I'm happy with something for music, nobody complains about how it sounds playing movies. I'm not particularly beholden to any amp (have McIntosh solid state, Quicksilver tubes, vintage Marantz integrated, and others on-hand but regardless I'll find something that works. Primarily thinking used "heritage" series, though this makes the whole "audition" thing difficult. Would like something made in the U.S.A. Could go to $3k, maybe $4k for something really special. Ideas? Suggestions on where to get started? Let me know if this post belongs somewhere else. Thanks, Lou
