  1. Marantz MA700 @ 200 WPC monoblock Do not know if they still make it now but dealers still have them and I have seen them on e-bay recently but I can't remember how much they are going for at auction. I think they are around $450-500 new.
  2. If I remember correctly the A100 is not bridgeable so you would only have 100 watts going to your rear surround and 200 going to all the others therefor you would have to turn your rear surrounds up in level quite a bit to compensate. I had to turn up the 125 watt monoblock a little bit to compensate for the diff in 125 and 150 watts but since my 6.1 is outboard of my preamp I do not know how much in db terms.
  3. boa, I recently bought a MA 500 which is the older version of the 6100 to power my rear center surround. wwWhen I got it home I realized it did not have a DC trigger to turn it on so I decided to take it back and get the dealer to order me a 6100. I did try it though, and it sounded great with my Marantz MM9000 5-ch amp. I will let you know how the 6100 sounds when I get it in and hook it up. There should not be any difference. Keep in mind that if you got a A200 or similar 2-ch amp, you could use the other chanel to drive a SVS CS sub(at 4 ohms) or something like.
  4. EAR(s) What I mean by "tight" is that the sub feels like it is making more room shaking bass than good tight sound. This might be due to the fact that my house was built in 1829.LOL Also the sound comming out is more like BLA.BLa.Bla.bla instead of BOOMMMMmmm. (excues my ineptness at discription) Placement is probally the issue but I am concerned about the wattage of the sub at 200 watts for this room which is 400 sqft or 3600 cubic feet. I am wondering wether two subs placed correctly would have an exponential difference in the quality of the bass even if the other was a something like a KSW12 which can be had cheaper than an SVS. 5. Thanks EAR(s)! I understand about sub placement but have never really checked for propper placement of sub. BUT I do wonder if I have the sub set up correctly as to crossover etc. I run a Parasound Pre with crossover set to 80 and sub low pass set to 120 (maximum) per Parasound manual. Do not have sub manual (long story) even though I bought it new from a dealer. I have high pass set to 80. Does this even matter using sub-in input on back. The sub sits in a corner on a hardwood floor. It does not sound "tight". Should I put it on spikes? This sub is a 200 watt sub and the room is approx 400 sqft with 9 ft cieling, is the sub too small? If so, having another sub should help.
  6. Question? I have a KSW 200 sub but I am considering getting a SVS 25-31PC or CS with an outboard amp. I do not need the Sampson because I do not think I will get a second SVS sub since I have the Klipsch. 1) Which would be better - The PC or a CS with outboard amp? 2) Also, will it match with the KSW 200? 3) What should I do with the KSW 200? Should I use it line level or speaker level with either my center (C-7) or my surrounds (ls/rs KSP S-6 rear s KSF S-5). My mains are KLF-20s. Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
  7. In a previous room I had a pair of KSF-S5s mounted to the ceiling because there were no walls to mount them to. I used 3/8" threaded rod through the ceiling and bolted to 2x4s over the joices. The sound was OK but not as good as wall mounting them like I did when I moved my HT room.
  8. I will say this, I had my Legend 20s bi-wired with some 12 gage Monster Cable top and bottom and per a recomendation from one of my audio dealers today I took the high end off and replaced it with some audioquest GLC four conductor wire using two for + and 2 for - and it made a heck of a difference in the clarity of the sound comming from the speakers. He said it would not matter as much on the low.
  9. boa I just read your message concerning switching on your amp with the switched outlet of your receiver. Have you checked the wattage/amperage rating of that outlet? I am concerned that it might draw too much power through your receiver. This could also create more heat in your receiver. Just concerned. Don't want to see anything happen. aab
  10. C-7 only way to go! Your wife will get used to it, mine did.
  11. avman both those amps were sold. I just went to pick up my S-6s today and the dealer had several Acurus amps for sale used but in great condition. One was the 100X3 for $599 and the other was the 125X5 for ? (the owner was not there). Does the $599 sound like a good price? Should I stick with Marantz "mono500" @ 125 wpc since my other amp is a Marantz? The dealer also had a Parasound HCA 1500A 205X2 new for $579 with a 10 year waranty. Do you or anyone else know anything about Parasound amps? I run a Parasound pre and it is not bad. My "compatability question" really pertained to sound/tonal quality vs. the Marantz. Is that what you meant?
  12. Does anyone know about the Adcom 555II or the Rotel RB985-THX? They are listed in the clasifieds today. I have looked up specs on i.net but I do not know how they would match up with my Marantz MM9000 to power the rear surround chanel and/or the side surround chanels. No price info, because I have not called yet. Wanted to get some feedback on compatibility with Marantz before I called.
  13. boa12 unless youn are really wanting to upgrade your reciever to a discrete model you might want to check out the Parasound 6.1 CSE which is supposed to decode both DD EX and DTS ES from any 5.1 system. As mentioned on another thread I have one but since I just spoke for some S-6s which I have not picked up yet and have no amp yet I can not tell you how it works. It retails for $400 I think but I got mine from the same dealer as the S-6s for !!!$155!!! A lot cheaper alternative than a new Denon 4802. Others might make such an animal but I do not know of any.
  14. I have also bi-wired my Legend 20s with standard Monster Cable but I was wondering if the Monster Cable Z series single cable(not bi-wire) would give me a better sound than regular Monster Cable bi-wired. Monster Cable Z series 1,2,and especially 3 are dang expensive! Even more so for their bi-wire cables.
  15. I use a Marantz MM9000 rated at 150 wpc. It is THX Ultra certified and I consider it a very smoth amp. It will blow me out of a room that is aprox 400 sq ft. Others on this BB also use Marantz recievers and are satisfied with their mating to Klipsch speakers. Cost from dealer is about $1100 but I bought mine off the internet for $800 new. aab3rd
  16. boa12 I am running a Parasound Pre-amp only because I am cheap and always looking for a good deal which I got on this pre-amp from a dealer. It was about $200 cheaper than the comprable Marantz product - the AV-560 and also because Parasound has that 6.1 processor that will convert any 5.1 system which I bought at the same time. Going to use Marantz monoblocks to push the speakers for rear surround. The Parasound Pre is a pretty good product but I am not exactly overwelmed with its functionality.
  17. Does any else consider the Legend series speakers "bright"? I run mine off of a Marantz MM9000 amp and I do not consider them bright. In contrast the CF-1s I have downstairs run off of an old Poineer 603 Pro Logic reciever(which may cause the brightness-coments concerning Pioneer welcome) sound considerably brighter. The room size is exactly the same.
  18. Shapeshifter If I understand you correctly (and others doing this), you have two sets of surround speakers in a 5.1 system. How do you switch between the two, depending on wether you are listening to music or watching a movie? Do you use an external A/B switch? If money was not an option for amplification then I could use the CF-1 I have in another room (but rarely listen to) for 5.1 music. That is if they would match well enough with the Legend 20s and C-7.
  19. ShapeShifter My main concern is HT (95%), so given that does your assessment stay the same for the direct radiating speaker for rear surround channel or will the S-5s work since they do have a forward firing radiator unlike the S-6s. Any other opinions on this subject will be helpful.
  20. Nothing like a good run on sentence! What I was trying to say is that until I decede what speakers to use I do not know how well the Parasound CSE 6.1 works. Another point of note is that I have in another room a pair of CF-1s (which I like as well or better than the Legends although they are hooked up to an old Pioneer Pro Logic reciever) which I could use for sides but not for rears because of the lack of room between the seating position and the back wall (approx 3 feet).
  21. Rob_S Parasound makes a 6.1 expander for any 5.1 system. It is called CSE 6.1 Center Surround Expander. Check it out at Parasound.com. Like I said in my first post, until I decide about what speakers to use for rear surrounds i. e. using my S-5s in the rear with S-6s for sides or get a C-7 for rear surround and use my S-5s for sides or go ahead and buy some S-6s for sides as well and sell my S-5s.
  22. OK, I know this questions has been asked a lot lately but I have a twist. Would this work for rear surrounds? Current set up MAINS KLF-20s CENTER KLF-C7 REARS KSF-S5s I can buy a pair of KSP-S6s from a dealer for $375pr and am thinking of using them for sides and moving my KSF-S5s (one or both) to the rear surround run off of a Marantz monoblock with a Parasound 6.1 prosessor (still in box until I get this resolved). Parasound 1800 PRE Marantz MM9000 5ch AMP Pioneer 525 DVD Hitachi 55" ULTRAVISION ANY OPINIONS?
