  1. Hey, I would again like to borrow your expertise. I plan topick up a pair of KLF-30's this Monday. They are mahogony. Does anyone have a picture of these? Also, there's a guy selling a Conrad Johnson MF 2500 for $900. Is that a good price? I heard one of these about six years ago and was very impressed, but not so much that I want to over pay. Thanks, Chip

So, has anyone bought one of these and put it through its paces? Just curious. Are there any substantial reviews?
  3. Howdy, I am currently listening to my Chorus powered by a Cambridge Audio 840a. It sounds pretty great. But I have heard that separates are the way to go. Anyway... Locally, I have an opportunity to pick up 5 Marantz Powerblocks (125 watts) for a good price. How much would I gain if I move to these separates? I have been thinking about getting a couple Emotiva monoblocks. Would these be an improvement over the CA? Do you think there would be much difference between the Marantz and Emotiva? I should say that I would only have about $500-700 to pick up a used preamp? Thoughts? Thanks.
  4. Thanks Guys, I received the Owen Corning yesterday. It will be about two weeks til I get to the project. but I set up pieces in four corners. All I can say is "WOW!" It made everything pristine. What an improvement. Thanks again. I am psyched to get to the project.
  5. This may very well be a stupid question, but could you put a completely different 15" woofer in your Chorus? Another manufacturer? Or are they too carefully balanced?
  6. I recently inherited some Snells - C V & K iii's. The 8" in one of the K iii's wasn't working so I was messing around with it last night. Thankfully, it turned out to be a loose connection. Anyway, I decided to hook up my SW-310 and they played beautifully together. And it got me thinkn' (always dangerous), that they marketed the 310's with these words: "We designed our latest subwoofers to be cross-brand compatible with any speaker or home theater system." Is it possible that the 310's are less efficient than typical Klpsch and that is why you have to set the gain so high? Hopefully, one of the more technically savvy can respond. I can say, I am not usually impressed with bookshelf / subwoofer setups, but the Snell and Klipsch were awesome together. Chip
  7. Thanks, that is really helpful. If I may, I would like to ask one more question: Does it make a difference if I use 4" or double up 2"? Again, Chris, I appreciate the help. Chip Also, I plan to read that article this evening.
  8. Thanks. The reason I ask is that I have heard you can "deaden" a room with too much. Also, would the Owens Corning be as effective on the walls as it is in a diagonal bass trap? I wish someone would write a book: "Room Treatments for Dummies".
  9. Howdy, Although my concern is for two channel, this is where I was directed for help. It was actually this section that gave me the advice for my current setup. It should be clear where everything is in the drawing. Here’s my dilemma. Our basement flooded a couple years ago. I have fixed the problem and don’t anticipate that happening again. Anyway… there is some mold on that 18’ wall behind my speakers. I am going to have to tear out the drywall, clean the area, and then replace. Here’s where I had an idea. I have wanted to do some things to improve the acoustics—bass traps, etc. But what if I purchased some of the Owens Corning 703, 4” and put it all around Section 1 up to 4’. So instead of putting up new drywall, I put 4’of the 703 all around Section 1. Of course I would cover it with a suitable fabric. The floor is carpeted and presently all the other surfaces are painted drywall. The ceiling is about 6’9”. Perhaps my plan is overkill. Or it may just be a bad idea for some audio reasons that I simply don’t understand. Anyway, I appreciate any ideas, encouragement, etc… Thanks, Chip
  10. I have decided to sell mine. I may move to the RSW-15 or another brand.
  11. They are CV's. They sound sweet. I mean really sweet.
  12. The RSW-15's do seem to get a lot of good reviews.
  13. I have an SW-310 and am underwhelmed. I have a chance to pick up a used RSW-15 for about the same price as a new SW-115. Any suggestions? Should I consider another brand in the $900-1000 range? Thanks.
  14. Hey, Is $600 a good price for an Adcom GFA-555 Power Amplifier and matching GFP-555 Pre-Amplifier? I have an opportunity to pick them up local. Thanks for the advice.
  15. The ones I will be picking up are Class C. I don't know much about them, but I will let you know how they sound. Chip
  16. Thanks guys, This is encouraging to hear. I am picking them up tomorrow and will report the model... And most importantly, the sound. Chip
  17. I just found out I am inheriting some Snell speakers. I don't know what model or age. I had never heard of them. I noticed a guy has a pair of them for sale in the GS. I went to Snell's website and it wasn't much help. Anyway... What is the general consensus? Average? Good? Excellent? I suppose it depends on the model, but I would still love to hear you thoughts on he brand as a whole. Thanks.
  18. That's a great suggestion. Is there a different line of Heresy for "pro" use? BTW, it may be a challenge to suggest Heresy to the church .
  19. Hey, I have noticed several guys with granite tops on the Heritage Speakers. What does that do? Sorry if that is a stupid question. My wife believes my head is made out of that material.
  20. Our church is beginning a new work in a local school. We are renting the gym. We will be setting up in a corner with about 80 people. What kind of sound equipment would be advised and what things could we do to make it sound a little less like a gym? Cost matters. Thanks for the input.
  21. I hope this is appropriate, but it was too cool not to share.
  22. Thanks. I haven't heard of the "sub crawl" before. I will give it a try. Re: phasing. I thought you wanted it at 0 or it would sound muddy? I am rather new to this. Thanks.
  23. I am having the same problem. I have tried moving the thing all around my listening area and it still underperforms. Like you said, to even hear it you have to max out the gains. Let me know if you figure something out. Thanks, Chip
