  1. The speaker cone has 3 small sags about halfway up from the voice coil cover in the same horizontal plane.  It looks like the driver cone got wet or was in a very humid area while being played. It almost looks like the paper tried to fold up on itself. Tried to take a photo but the photo did not show what I am trying to describe.

  2. After discussion with some of the "old hands", Trey has indicated the recone kits I received will not work with the 1976 high basket, large square magnet K33.  The kits I received are for current production round magnet K-33-E.  :(

Any ideas as to a product to apply to stiffen the soft sagging paper cone?

    Or just get new drivers?

  3. After your listening tests, take a screwdriver and an ohmmeter, remove both leads for each speaker connected at the crossover and take a resistance measurement. Put the leads back.  Measure both tweeters, both squawkers and both woofers.  Write the resistance readings down for each set and compare.  The resistance readings for each pair of drivers should close within 1 ohm or so, if not most likely a replacement speaker was used.  Opening the doghouse should be only done if there is an issue with the woofers.  Depending on the vintage, removing the doghouse door can get tricky and messy depending on the type of material used on the door seal.

The surround is cloth without any of the butyl coating and there are eyelets in the cone which I believe the voice coil leads get threaded through to the terminals.  When I received the parts the cones very dusty, as if they had set around for some time.

  5. I would recommend a shaper and a plunge router.  The shaper is much easier to work with and more stable than a router mounted in a table.  Look at Grizzly Industrial to get an idea.  Of course gothoovers computer controlled router would be a dream.

  6. MikeRam,

The Klipsch part number sent to me was 151162.  However I have a pair of the older high basket K33 and this kit may not fit. I am working with CS to make that determination. The paper cone in this kit is very thin and light with no butyl on folds of the surround.

  7. Red and Pink are bad, Greens are OK, Yellow is simply in the middle. edit: I will add that white is no mode at that frequency. See piano keyboard to the right...

I was joking, this program has shown my room to be good and I am very surprised.
