  1. Roy, I know you followed my build and would like to know if you feel I got close enough to the real Jubilee to even be worthy of being able to call them a clone? Just wondering if the beautiful sound I am getting is close to the real Jubilee sound. rigma hey rigma, i would like your opinion on the sound as well see below. i think of all the plans i have seen, yours ranks way up there. i wish i could say more; i hope you understand . I have been in manufacturing all my life and I totally understand "intellectual property" would certainly call them a clone; a much more beautiful clone for sure. i am really impressed with your skills and patience....Thanks so much you ever thought about working for a speaker company? I never say never but I currently enjoy being self employed. have a blessed night, roy We spent several hours tonight listening and tweaking. The bass seemed a little overwhelming so I checked the FR with my RTA and saw a broad peak centered around 80hz (probably room) I had to EQ -8db 1 octave at 80hz to get it to look flat on the RTA at the listening position. It now sounds wonderful, but I may have gone a little to far. By the way, I had a peak at about 125hz instead of 80hz with the Khorn. I have been reluctant to post because I have gone from passive on the Khorns to active on the Jubs and just need some time to dial it in. I have your settings for the EV and am using them with the Crown active but some of the Q settings you use are not available on the Crown. I may want to talk to you about this but lets wait till I try the passives which I hope to use long term. The Jub passives should be complete this weekend. Bottom line is the clones are the most refined and best sounding speakers I have heard, even at this state of tuning. More to come with more time to optimize. rigma
  2. I also have heard their are plans out their, but am not sure who has them. Just to be clear, I don't have any plans to share! I spent 6 months designing and building my clones and did it one piece at a time. My sketches and notes would have no meaning to anyone other than myself, (my wife has call me a mad scientist for years). I really don't want to sound rude and will help anyone by sharing the building techniques I used, I just don't have any plans. rigma
  3. Dean, I don't have your email handy here is the link to the screws I told you about http://www.boltdepot.com/product.aspx?cc=13&cs=72&cm=25&cd=1222 item #13142 rigma
  4. JC, Not to worry, I don't take that as personal at all. Hey, you are a fellow DIYer and I respect your skills and opinions. Even if I didn't like the looks of the 402, which I do, I would keep it for the sound. It is the best I have ever heard bar none! I have not heard the 501 but can't imagine it could be as good or better, but I could be wrong. To me the sound is priority one aesthetics are desirable but secondary. This is an audio forum not "Home Decor"[]..LMAO rigma
  5. Maybe it is just me but I think the smaller horn looks strange on top of the Jubilee bass bin, sort of a robot look if that makes sense. The 402 looks proportionally just right to me. I still haven't decided whether to cover it with cloth or not, it really looks good with just plugging the holes with black button head screws. My wife is a great decorator and she likes the look also. Although we do like the photoshop version that bill did. The photos do not look as good as the real thing mostly due to lighting. The room is on the dark side since it is also the theater room. The 402,s almost looks covered from the seating position but the flash lights it up and exaggerates the look in the photos. Where is colter when you need him? rigma
  6. Alan, They really don't take up any more space than a Khorn, just a little taller. rigma

  8. What is that on the bottom of Parrot's shoe?? Could it be poo poo?
  9. Thanks Bill. Sorry for the delay, I just saw this. I like that allot! and my wife likes it also. Just last night we did somthing similar but had the frame on the outside of the 402 also and thought pretty could but your way looks much better. I will start thinking of a way to do this. Thanks again. rigma
  10. Dean Here is a pics of the rough layout of the passives. Do you see anthing I should do different? I tried to keep the coils as far away from each other as I could and to keep center lines the same and at right angles. rigma
  11. Dean, Another question. On the Solen Lintz coils what have you found is the best way to tin the wires. I have tried scraping the varnish off and also dipping in a very hot solder pot to burn it off (maybe it was not hot enough) and didn't really like the results of either. rigma
  12. Dean, Or anyone who knows. On a Hovland capacitor what is the correct way to connect the wires. I have some with green & red and others with clear & clear with blue stripe. Which goes to ground on the parallel connections and which is the input side on the series connections or does it even matter in the crossover. Logic says green to ground & I would think red or blue stripe is input, but I don't know. This is for Roy's passive. rigma
  13. A bunch more photos posted tonight at www.jubilation.ws rigma
  14. I have a pair of those in black in my bed room. They sound very very nice and smooth at low and mid volume. They may sound very good at high volume also but I never crank these up. If they stay near that price they are also an excellent deal. rigma
  15. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words and encouragement. The plan is to have them playing tunes this weekend. Maybe we can have a conference call so everyone can hear them.[] Maybe Coytee can set that up.[8-)] Sorry Richard I couldn't help it. rigma
  16. The woofers have now been woofed with a 20 hz sine wave at 10 volts for 20 minutes each. rigma
  17. Roy, Yes, I have K-31. Thanks for the info, I will do that. rigma
  18. What about pink noise? How loud and how long? rigma
  19. JC, I edited the above post the 6 mh inductor is 10 ga Litz wire not 12 ga, The DCR is .47 Hey it is big 6" dia X 1-3/4" thick. rigma
  20. Richard, I hope to have them up and running this weekend. I still have to paint the top and bottom access panels, edge band, install & wire woofers, install grill cloth on bass bins, & final assemble and hook up. JC, Initially I will use and active crossover (Crown IQ USM 810) with Roy's settings. A Crown D-150A II will power woofers and my home built WE-91 300B SETs for the 402s. The pre amp is a home built Berman 76 tube with 6SL7 phono section and Lundle step up trans for the Denon 103 cart. The turntable is a VPI Aries II and CD is Jolida 100 tube. I have all the parts to build Roy's passives, except I will be using all air core inductors. You ought to see the size of that 10 ga 6 mh inductor! I hope to have the passive done in a couple weeks. My past experience with active vs passive tells me that the passive will sound better with acoustic Jazz and Blues with SET amps, which is mainly what we listen to. The tone just sounds more pure IMHO. Oh, got them up stairs without a scratch. Thanks for all the compliments from the forum members. rigma
