  1. I have a KSW-15 Sub, SC-1 center and Quintet satilites. The center channel seems to be slightly over powering the sats. I had a thought and was wondering what every thinks it would do to my system. What is I bought 4 more quintet satilites and mounted them inline with my existing Sats. What would this do to my sound would it help or hurt ?? If it would help what's the best way to wire a setup like this ? Should it be Y'ed with equel length wires from the Y to the Sats or can I just wire from the existing Sat to the new Sat next to it ? The Quintets are so cheap at Ubid that I couldn't resist doing this if it will help my sound out. Thanks for your help.
  2. Yea I already did Avman. I watch Gadiator with DTS and its awesome to say the least. I was playing around with it some more and your right they do sound better in stereo. I can live with it.
  3. I believe with my Sony it has factory preset sound fields for the music such as Hall, Concert, Live house and such. I use them for DVD's in DTS and Dolby Digital and they sound great. With a PCM/Stereo signal they work also and output to the rears but not the center channel. I think this is the difference maybe. I'm starting to think I should of did a little more research before I purchased the sony receiver. Does anyone else have experience with a sony 975 receiver ?
  4. Well when I say music is lacking. I'm meaning regular CD music it doesn't use the 5 channels to its fullest potential. When listening to DVD Music videos like Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" in DTS or Bruce Springsteen Live in New York Dobly "Digital" this setup will rock the promedia's to death. But at regular PCM stereo signals its not even close to the pro's playing MP3's or CD's with my Philips AE sound card.
  5. Well my Livingroon is now Klipsch complete. I just setup my KSW-15 sub , SC-1 Center and Quintet Satilites with my Sony STR-DE975 reciever and let me say I'm impressed. Last night we watched and listened in total awe to Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" on DVD DTS. Man its hard to believe such awesome sound can come out of such small sats. Well anyway's can some of you Guru's help me tune this reciever for the Klipsch combo I have. Right now I have all the crossovers set to 120. all Speakers set to small. The room this is in is only 12' X 12'. To me movies sound awesome as it is. But CD music is lacking is there anything I can do to improve the CD music sound. My Promedia 5.1s will blow the HT setup in the dirt at regular Music.
  6. Does it look like thats how it was attached at the factory ? With some type of adhesive ? If so find out what kind and your problem is solved. Oh and hit the guy on the head that did it This message has been edited by NOS440 on 11-13-2001 at 12:58 PM
  7. If the wide screen has the stretch feature that allows regular TV and non wide screen formats to be strecthed to fit the screen. I would go 16X9 no matter what you get they are awesome for DVD's and wide screen veiwing. They also look okay strecth the regular stuff.
  8. Yea I unhooked the RCA's and reset the system and still no Optical out. I'm pretty sure the dam thing is broke. I'm on ebay right now trying to find a deal on a replacement unit. I even opened it up and redid the solder joints and still no go. I'm sure its just broke. This message has been edited by NOS440 on 11-11-2001 at 02:22 PM
  9. LOL I wish that was the truth well maybe not. If they came out and serviced my setup I would be in Jail LOL !!!!
  10. I've done all that and at the Dish reciever there is no red light coming out of the Optical port. I borrowed a DVD player to confirm that the Sony receiver is excepting optical and that works fine. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Sat. receivers Optical port is non functional. How the heck do I get that fixed ?
  11. avman All I can find that had anything to do with Audio on the Dish Reciever is where you choose what type of reciever it is outputing to and the choices are Dolby Digital or PCM or both. I can't find any place to enable digital out or Optical out at all. where would I find this option ??
  12. Well I just went and borrowed a buddies DVD player and now I have dolby digital with it just fine. I might add that there sure is a big difference compared to Pro Logic. now I need to just figure out what is wrong with my Satilite receiver and optical out. What a bummer.
  13. I just found something strange . When choosing "Auto Format Decoding" under Sound Field and than choosing Optical under Input. After a few seconds the receiver displays the word "Unlock" and then it changes to Auto Format Decoding and there is no sound. This is really weird.
  14. On the rear of the sony there are hookups for RCA and optical that are designated SAT/TV and that is where I have them connected. The only setting on the Sony that I can find lets you choose what Input and I choose Optical SAT/TV and all sound is lost. As far as the Satilite there really is no way that I have found to tell it what to send other than whether the receiver its sending to can except Dolby digital, PCM or both. I really think it just isn't sending a Optical signal at all. wish I had another reciever to try or someone with a DVD player.
  15. boa12 Well if what your saying is the facts than something is wrong. On Dish Network channel 9480 which is the Dolby Digital Demo channel which you have to have the dual dish setup or dish 500 to receive. Is a Dolby Digital broadcast. I also have a number of PPVs that broadcast in Dolby Digital. But I still am only getting dolby Prologic and no sound at all when choosing Optical in. I would think that this is most likely the satilite receiever is not putting out Optical out. I guess the only way to find out is to go out and buy good DVD player that has Optical out and see if it works. Any suggestions from say Best Buy low on cash so I'd have to use my CC with no interest ?? I currently use a Hollywood Plus from my PC to send DVD's to my TV and its getting to be a pain. Thanks for your help !
  16. I've been messing with this receiver on and off for day's. I have a Dish Network Satilite receiver Model 4700 which is suppose to be Dolby Digital and has a Optical out port. I have tried and tried to get the Sony to output Dolby Digital to no Avail . I have tried forcing Optical Input and get no sound at all from my Satilite or sony. Yes I'm trying on DD enabled channels and the DD demo channel. All I get is Pro Logic thru 2 channel signal input. Questions 1) Does Dolby Digital require a Digital connection either Optical or Coxail ?? 2) For the reciever to output Dolby Digital do you have to have a Active sub hooked to the LFE channel ? I'm waiting for my Klipsch sub to ship to me. I tried just hooking basic powered speaker to the LFE channel to see if DD would work and nothing happened. Could this just be a problem with my Satilite reciever ? I don't currently have a DVD player with a Digital connection to narrow this down and I'm not really sure if the connection has to be Optical. I'm beginning to wish I never bought this sony receiver Please help me out on this I'm at my witts end. Thanks Craig
