Can anyone tell me if a pair of La Scalas made in '89 would be plywood or MDF? Also, what mid driver did they use that year?

That's a great idea!! I hadn't heard about a die-cast car, but I will ask. I feel that I should be entitled to car #1 for such a brilliant idea!

Suitable Replacement driver for the KLF-10?
philly0116 replied to philly0116's topic in Technical/Restorations
I have a cabinet maker building new cabinets for my KLF 10's so they will be plenty sturdy. I just didnt know if there may be a selenium driver or something that would be smoother or better suit the KLF10 than what came with it. I would have to assume the KLF 20 horn would be different based on the fact thats a larger cabinet and a 3 way speaker not a 2 way. -
I was told by Bob Crites when I re-did my Cornwalls that after 20 years or so the caps are exhausted and are no longer accurate in sound reproduction. That being said....its not like remodeling a bathroom to get more money for your house. I'd sell them as is and roll on.

Can anyone suggest a replacement driver that may sound better than the factory driver?

Age old question gets the age old answer....they are worth what someone is willing to pay. Set a price in your mind you want for them, put them on CL for a couple hundred more and negotiate with someone.

I guess I was WAY over thinking all of this. I was thinking of gluing acoustic dampening foam to the sides and top. I never considered polyester batting or loose fill.

Yep! Sound deadening, foam sheets, etc.

Can anyone suggest a suitable speaker baffling for inside a speaker cabinet? Thanks!!

That begs the question....What x-over?

I appreciate all the positive comments but this bad boy just sold locally.

Thanks for sharing!! What sub would go with that?!

Any thoughts on the subject? Dual 10's are mighty appealing. I am pondering selling my 5's to have a custom build done on some KLF-10's....am I crazy?

Thoughts from those more experienced than I, Please.....

Thanks for the response! What about using the board separating the drivers and the tweeter? Go for it you think or leave it alone? -

First of all, I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here. I purchased a pair of KLF-10 speakers that barely survived the recent tornado's in Arkansas. The components are all fine, however, the cabinets are beyond repair. I have two options....sell the parts or build cabinets. I've never really liked the fact that the KLF series was glued together and not screwed together and I feel like the wood is to thin. I'm kicking around rebuilding these with a sturdy 3/4 oak, all screwed together, not glued. Also, as opposed to a bass port in the rear I was thinking about a port in the front at the bottom with a bass bin, similar to a pair of Cornwalls. I thought too of adding a board to separate the horn from the woofers inside. Does all this sound crazy or overboard? I would be keeping the boxes the factory dimensions. Thanks for any input!
