  1. All sounds good except for setting the avr to 0 for the sub channel. Let you avr decide that when it does the room correction. And if it's all the way negative after the results turn the sub down a notch or two and re run it. You basically want to know your sub volume is as high as it can be without the receiver adding any gain.

I tried that on my sub today, it couldn't handle cuz it was making 'farting' noises, so I had to turn the knob down a little. I wish my SW-115 would get here =^/
  2. after talking with Mike Embers at Acoustic Sound Design, he REALLY 'sold' me on the idea of saving money by going for the RF-82 system minus the SW-112 subwoofer, and in stead going with his PL-200 600-1,000 watt subwoofer, since it has the same BASH amplifier inside, as well as even more power handling. He was VERY confident it would sound better and would be half the price. Now, I do know that of course he's getting that subwoofer, which he said was designed by "Dr. Sub" (?) at a severe discount, so in the end he's making more (by selling the other Klipsch speakers with it)... but I didn't get the impression I'd be losing much, if ANY bass/low end frequency by going with the PL-200 model. He said it was more sub for less money, and people get too hung up on the logo on the front (Klipsch) and pay more because of it so they all match.

I've heard decent things about that sub. I've also heard a lot of people say the same thing about the Klipsch subs. I got mine as part of the package deal, so I got a decent price on the 115. I dunno, I'm sure I'll be plenty satisfied with it.
  3. I can't devote any more than $3,000 toward the 5.1 system in total, because I also need a new receiver with the power and featured to drive them and offer the bluray clarity desired... as well as the new 3D HDTV.

The RF-82 looks like the best 5.1 system I can do buying new from an Authorized Retailer at a great price.

I got the system in my sig for $3135 (minus the AVR) and got quoted the same system with the SW-112 for a little less than $3000. I got it local, but I'm fairly certain you can find at least as good or better of a price if you shop around. So if you don't go with the RB-81 IIs for the rear, that should knock another big chunk of money off. I don't remember how much they were exactly tho, probably around $600 to $650 or so for the pair...

  4. Alright alright, a sub is recommended most of the time. I suppose it depends on what the speakers are used for the most. I wouldn't have a speaker system used for mainly movies without a sub. If it's used mainly for listening to jazz, then yeah, you can get away without using a sub =^P

  5. I decided to move my living room around a little bit to see how it would sound having the speakers be at ear level but not straight across from each other. It seems to be sounding pretty good so I'm sure I'll be happy with the results of putting them that way.

  6. Just bought my first SACD (Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon) only to find out that PS3 and XBox 360 aren't compatible =^( I guess I should have not been lazy and looked it up before I ordered the thing...I wonder if my DVD player in my car does...hrrmmmm.

  7. ^^^the problem with me putting it ear level would be one would be in front of the listening position by a few feet. Wouldn't it be better to have them at the same position even if they were pointed downwards? I don't really have the luxury of trying both and deciding which is better. I can try the one where the speakers are uneven and see if it's satisfactory, but after that holes go in the walls so no way to really try the up high pointing down position to see how it sounds before attaching them...I dunno, I have the 2 RS-62 IIs in front of the listening position now, and although it sounds decent I feel like I'm missing some of the surround effect. I guess I'll have to roll the dice and hope I get lucky...It's all good tho, I won't be in this house forever, I can always do it better the next time around.

  8. I would say yes. You would definitely lose some bass response tho, but of course a sub would make up for the loss. A sub is always recommended anyways because you will get a whole lot more out of the bottom end that way.

  9. I actually have a similar question. I ended up buying these for my RS-62 IIs. They holes in the back of the speaker line up perfectly with the ones on the mounts. I have yet to put the speakers up, but with these it looks like I can pretty much angle them any way I want. I would like to put them near the ceiling so they are even with the listening position and then just angle them right down at the listening position. The other option is putting them at ear level, but the left and right one wouldn't be straight across from each other because of the opening into the kitchen. What would be the better option? I would think evened up, higher, but angled way down would make for better sound positioning than if they were ear level but not even...Hopefully my description is painting enough of a picture for some advice...

  10. Ha , I don't think that monkey was that old.

I bought it around 1981, lol, so it's your age, it's single ended class A on one side of the speaker and class A/B on the other side. The Class A controls the Class A/B, very complicated, but the sound is "invisible clarity" when compared to many other reasonable top shelf amps of the day. It cost me $3,000.00 back then and the pre amp is the C2a $2,500.00 the model before CD's came out. The C2x had 1 phono input removed and replaced with a CD input.

Heh, I thought you were talking about the monkey, not me. I guess I didn't realize my bday was on this site.
  11. ^^^I thought i specifically asked for you to not post that picture of me. I was young and I needed the money...

    PS: Heritage blows Reference A-W-A-Y!

    Devil

I would hope so for the price you pay...
  12. ^^^That sounds like a good idea. I'll try that when I finally get my sub in...

I don't remember my AVR having the 'small' setting, just crossover points...Is this normal with Onkyo or am I missing a setting in there somewhere?

My Onkyo TX-SR705's setup menu says: Full Band? yes or no.

    Bill

Ok, this is what I thought. I found all those settings so I wasn't missing anything. Just different AVRs/different menu options... thanks =^)
  13. nope, I meant exactly what I said.

    and... she's running a Yamaha

I gotcha, and I know. I had asked a question about my AVR because I keep seeing people say to pick the 'small' setting and I don't remember ever seeing that option in mine.
