  1. I just want to say this is a smoking hot deal on this sub. I've owned this sub and the downfiring 15" actually moved enough air to make the 95lb enclosure jump off the floor in my room! It is one of the best subs made by Infinity, it's clean and I measured flat response to 22Hz without it being corner loaded. If I remember correctly, the enclosure was made out of 1" MDF.
  2. I have a friend that wanted to buy some Klipsch, I'll let him know about your RB-75's. How many are left now?

And then poof!, you disappeared. And you're back again but selling off all your stuff? Not wanting to pry or nothing, but just out of concern, what's up? ---------------- I haven't been posting because I got a new job, I work ~50-60hrs a week and then when I have time off I still have a buch of work related stuff to do. I'm not selling off all my stuff, I just realized I'm just gathering too much equipment that's not doing anything. The only thing I'm selling that I've been using is the HK AVR325, I want a new reciever that will do auto-eq'ing. I think I'm going with the Pioneer Elite VSX54TX since it can tell the difference between the speakers response and the room's effects.

Also for those curious it's about the size of the krell MRS but made of HDF sorry I can't weld. ---------------- Is there going to be any type of EQ or LT? What amp are you using? Dual Tumults will certainly rock in almost any enclosure given enough power.

My biggest peak is at 50hz, however, and it's at +5 db. Since this is the first time I've ever done this sort of mapping I'm not so sure I'm reading this data correctly. However, from my sparse understanding I would think this is fairly good. I believe that somewhere on this forum I read a thread that indicated a frequency response that was within +/-5 db was considered good. Am I within acceptable parameters or would I benefit greatly from an electronic equalizer/room treatments? My room is about 7000 cubic feet. I haven't done any sort of special room treatments although I really don't have a ton of "hard" surfaces to deal with....carpeted floors and curtains work pretty well. Any help would be appreaciated. I could list the whole spectrum I measured if that would help some more. Thanks again for your help. ---------------- That is very good response for no eq or treatments. Eq'ing out that bump around 50Hz will make music sound more natural but you'll probably feel like it's lacking impact for HT if you do it.

Before I bought it, I went to every place in town and tried out every sub I could get my hands on over the last couple of nights. There were none of the high enders around like the Velo DDs. And noone has SVS. So I just checked out what was available. Honestly, and I don't mean to get negative here but there wasn't even one that truly impressed me all that much. Mostly because I am using the sub in a music application. Lots of them sounded fine for HT. I just thought that they all had just a too much boominess and distortion. Now I understand why there are the big dollar subs. I am sure they are probably what I was really looking for but I just couldn't afford them. So I settled for the DLS-4000 which was actually one of the best I heard. I think the RSW-12 sounded a hair better, but was was way more expensive. So anyhow I got it home and played with it for a couple of hours. Now I think I am going to have to go back and get a second one. Then, I think I will be satisfied. I am using these with a pair of LaScalas. I paid $378 for the first one. Maybe I can get a better deal on the second. I don't think that a single $800 sub would have done much better than one DSL-4000. So I don't feel too badly about buying a second. Actually I'm thinking two of these for $800 isn't really too bad. I was going to get the SVS PB-2 ISD for $899 plus shipping. Does anyone know if one of those SVS-PB-2 ISD would be better than 2 DSL-4000s? I can still bring the first DSL-4000 back. Thanks for any info. ---------------- A single SVS 25-31PCi should have around twice the output of single DLS4000 and since the the PB2-ISD performs similarly to two 25-31PCi's, it is a no brainer.
  8. TheEar's comments are pretty much my feelings as well. Right now Tweeter is selling them knd of cheap because the newer model(DLS4000R) is coming out.
  9. Well, I might be moving around the beginning of next year so if the new place allows for an IB that what it's gonna be. Hopfully I can have a dedicated theater as well.

What am I gonna do with the 85L/250W SVS CS based sub I have, or the passive version of the same sub, or the two other SVS CS drivers, or the Audiobahn 10" sub, or the Carver stereo amp I got to be used as a sub amp, or the Buttkicker amp I have...I HAVE NO IDEA. I'm sick, I know it and I don't care
  11. I'll take the port and two AV15's. Just let me know how you would like me to pay. If you have Paypal, that would be easiest. My zip is 22153.

Rob's right about the other sub, it won't have a any chance of keeping up with the LaScala's output.

  14. I also thought I read somewhere if you were using a horn loaded sub in such a small confined space like a car you would loose the effect of the horn loading because of something to do with the large amount of pressure created in the cabin. I really can't remember where I read this from or even whom so I don't know how accurate the statement is but it's at least something to look into.
  15. I did the last of the little bit of work I had to do on it yesterday. Instead of ordering more vinyl laminate for the baffle, I just used the last of the truck bed liner I had from the last subs I used it on. This thing is also very heavy so I put 4 Magic Sliders as feet(from Home Depot). Here are a few more pics: Installed feet make it easy to move Baffle finished with truck bed liner (This picture was deliberately taken without a flash so it is more indicative of the actual color.)

The only think extra I would of done with that budget is to gloss it up. I do realize it would make it more prone to finger prints but when cleaned up looks nice. I will admit you do good work. It would be cool to have you next door to help me with progects like that. Althought with a bigger budget, I would of done a PR box. Not knocking your box at all, as everything I would add just drives up the price which is something you didn't want to do. I hope it sounds at least as good at it looks. CD---------------- Picky, picky aren't we. I used the cheap vinyl stick on veneer so there's really nothing I can do to make it glossy. If I used real wood veneer I sure would have made the finish glossy. Performance wise I think it's a fair to estimate it's performance would be similar to a SVS 25-31PCi or Hsu VTF-3. I have close to the same amount of power and I have a slightly more internal volume than both of them with may lead to an extra dB or two down low. I'm taking it to the Tweeter I work at on Thursday to see how it compares with what we have in the store. While we sell Velo's DD series and all the Martin Logan subs we don't have all of them in the store. The best I'll have in the store to compare it to is the Velo SPL1000II and the Martin Logan Depth.
  17. This was built for my parents basement, they originally wanted to buy a $99 KLH sub for a 10,000ft^3 basement, I told them I'd build them a sub instead. Output was the priority, not extension. It is a vented Dayton DVC12 with a 250W plate amp. Internal volume is 4.2ft^3 and it's tuned to 25Hz. External dimensions are 23"(H)x18"(W)x23"(D). It has two internal braces and the internal walls are lined with polyfill. I'm going to take it into work(Tweeter), I was guessing it would be better than everything(output wise) at the store except for the Martin Logan Depth($1800 retail). I know it's not fair to compare subs unless side by side, but with my DVC12 having the disadvantage of being in a room that's ~3X the size of what's at work it seems to have more impact and booty shaking ability. Here are some pics. One roll of the vinyl laminate wasn't enough so I left the back unfinished. Instead of buying a new roll just for the back I might just paint it black with the truck bed liner I have left over from my sonosubs. I put the sub on the back of the enclosure because the cork surround had come off and it looked ugly. Being clamped Unfinished Looking at a port through amp hole Unfinished backside Side with amp Front shot I tried to keep price as low as possible, here are the cost details: $89 - MCM 250W plate amp(no longer on sale) $65 - used Dayton DVC12 $30 - MDF $14 - cherry vinyl laminate $8 - dual 3" flared ports(11.5" length) ---------------------------------------------------------------- $206 = Total cost
  18. Price updated to $200 shipped, if you live around Northern VA you can pick it up and save a few bucks more.

Besides the gutsy amps and awesome processors, there's also the added flexibility of setting up and storing presets through a computer that can't be accessed through the normal OSD.

Most of the smaller sets use 5" or 7" CRT's. 22. Where did you get it for that price?
  23. I say try and look for the older version Interlude sub, the IL120s. It will have similar if not a little bit more output than the Klipsch. The Alpha 1200s get's beaten by last year's smaller 10"(IL100s) when you go down low. When you go with last years 12" it will only be beaten by a larger margin. The best thing about the Infinity subs is the RABOS system, unfortunately you have to buy the kit separately but it's well worth it to properly use the built in eq to smooth out your response. If you want the absolute bang for the buck you should check out SVS, Hsu, and Outlaw.
