  1. You can read some of my thoughts between the 20-39CS Plus and the Ultra here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1306961#post1306961 If you scroll up, you can see someone else's thoughts between the two as well.
  2. easylistener, Just curious, what previous subs have you had to compare to the SVS? Frank
  3. Skip, I do like the HK better. I decided to sell because I wanted 7.1 and newer formats like DPL II/DTS Neo 6. I recently got access to webspace so here's some links to pictures of the unit: HTR-5280 front HTR-5280 remote
  4. Unfortunately, in your price range there are no "real subwoofers". I highly recommend checking out the used market. Try ebay, post something here asking for people's used sub offering in your price range, do teh same at hometheaterforum.com, or look at the "hardware for sale/trade" forum there. If you absolutely must buy something new, there is a much better alternative to the Sony. It's the $99 DLS-10 available from www.partsexpress.com. I've personally heard both and while neither can reach satisfying levels for me, the DLS-10 is amazingly free of the "boom boom" complex, most budget subs(like the Sony) suffer from. I would recommend two of them in the same corner for maximum impact. Here's a link where someone did some output tests between the SA-WM40/DLS-10: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1195021#post1195021 Also a search for this subwooofer on hometheaterforum.com will bring plenty of positive comments in it's favor. 5. I found the addition of a Parasound HCA-855a to my R*-3II system was a significant step up in quality over the amplification of my Yamaha RX-V995. I recently added a HK AVR-520 and found it's internal amplifier's to sound similar at low volumes only. Even though it sounded similar, it seems to lack the excitement the Parasound brings. When the HK amp is pushed hard, things seem to lack the definition the Parasound brings.
  6. This isn't mine and I don't know the guy but I found a cheap KSW-12 on audiogon: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?homesubw&1048935509 Refurb'd Infinity IL100's can be found on ubid.com within your price range also. I think they're a significant step up from the PB-10.
  7. Steven, Just shoot me an email whenever you have time and thanks for the invite. I've only had a 2 song, in store demo of the Storm III, but I agree that it's excellent for music. Frank
  8. Orange Peel, I just got a AVR520 and love it. My brother now wants one of the lower end HK's. I know the technical differences between the different receivers but I was wondering if you could comment on the sound quality difference between your two HK's.

  10. Matt, Not a problem, just send an email. When I was looking into subs I wished someone around me could let me hear their SVS, so I have no problem letting others hear mine. I hated making a blind purchase, but I couldn't be happier. Frank
  11. Iceman, I can't say much about the RSW subs because I've only listened to them in store. I previously used the 20-39CS Plus, I currently use a single Ultra, and my brother and I built a DIY SVS with the original CS driver(I guess you could call it a 16-50CS). With all the above mentioned subs, I don't feel their music performance takes a back seat to their HT performance one bit. Don't buy into the SVS not being musical until you've heard them. Where are going to hear them? I'm glad you asked. Well I noticed your "RSW-12 or 15" thread you're in DC, I live in the area too(Springfield, VA). I would be willing to let you hear the fury that is my CS Ultra. My brother's DIY SVS is here as well, so you could get an idea of what the lower line SVS' can do(this woofer is from the older version of the CS/PC subwoofers, the current one is capable of more output). I'm off today and tomorrow I'm free after 12:00. Just shoot an email to: fabulousfrankie@hotmail.com. If anyone else in the DC is interested, or wants to compare subs side by side, bring'em over and we'll have a shoot out!
  12. ---------------- On 2/12/2003 10:57:35 AM Colin wrote: you will find charts describing them both. (After evaluation, the author bought both the RSW and the SVS!) Take a close look at the charts. The peak of their frequency response defines what the sub can do. ---------------- While the frequency response chart is a good thing to check out when comparing subs, it is also room/placement/listening positiong dependent. So seeing if there's a peak in the charts in Brian Weatherhead's room, doesn not mean there will be a peak in someone elses. From the article: "Distance from the corner of the room to the listening position was roughly 12 feet, in a room a little under 3600 ft3." "You will notice that the graphs all seem to have similar contours, and this is caused by the specific listening environment."
  13. Unless your'e willing to go the DIY route, I'd choose the the SVS 25-31Pci($549). If a cylinder in your room is not to your liking, then I'd go with the new box version, the SVS PB1-ISD($599). For a little less money, there's also the Adire Audio Rava($399), which uses the popular Shiva driver.
  14. Still avaiable, I will also entertain reasonable offers. Thanks

  18. Doug, I don't think there's anymore thinking. It's a no brainer at $400.
  19. I run a HCA-855a to Klipsch R*-3II and it sounds outstanding! I tried Yamaha and Denon receivers, as well as Audiosource amps, the Parasound was the best match out of what I tried. It gave a more full bodied and robust sound.
  20. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/news.htm SVS recently posted info/pics of their newest subs. It's basically a 25-31Pci in box form tuned to 22hz. The link has info on preorder/shipping times. There's also a pretty recent review on their site of the 25-31Pci so you can get an idea of it's capabilities.
  21. What Cambridge Soundworks speakers are they? Some of the Cambridge stuff goes for extremely low prices on ebay.
  22. Also keep in mind if you get the powered version, you avoid the possibility of this problem.
