  1. I really liked the 280F's when I heard them. Scrappy hit it on the head. The 280F is much smoother. I still like the clarity though of my 7II's and can't speak of the 63's or 83's as I've never heard them. I did own the RF62II's though and I would still take the 280F's over them because of the smoother high end. So basically I think we are both saying the 280's are better then the 1" driver in the older reference but when it comes to the big boys like the 63's, 83's and 7's then they trump the 280. Does that make sense lol?

  2. Those are the first generation Synergy, never sold at Best Buy. They are similar to the original Reference line.

I bought my SF-1's, SC.5 and SS.5's at Best Buy along with the KSW12 subwoofer.

  3. I like my Sony BDP-S790 it's fast and delivers a sharp picture.  Why not get a player from the company that developed the Blu-Ray disc.  I thought about an OPPO but just could not justify the cost unless I could see that it is truly that much better than my Sony.

I own the Sony S790 in a small system the Oppo 103D in the main system. Both are great players but the Oppo has the edge especially with the darbee version. If your on a budget the S790 can be had for much less and will satisfy.

  4. I own the Oppo 103D and use it with an LED Tv. I wasn't sure if I would notice a difference but surprisingly I can and it does give off some nicer details. Run the darbee at 35-40% anymore and you start to see artifacts imo. I love the player and it just got an upgrade for Tidal which I also run through it. Sweet!

  5. Look at my sig. I have the 4520 powering the 7's, 64, and 62's and it does a fine job in my small room. If I bumped up to seven speakers and a larger room then I would get an external amp but for now....nah. Although I still want to try an amp and actually see for myself what the improvement if any would bring. It's just not a priority right now.

  6. I've owned several of the last gen reference series. RF52II's, RC52II's, RB51II's, RB61II's, RC62II, RF62II, etc..... I also have heard the 280F and I would take that over the 82II. Smoother on the upper end. I was very impressed. If starting out now I would go with the 280FA and jump into the atmos world. I'm having a hard time not doing that now but can't justify it financially atm. I think I'm getting bored with my system? Do any of you ever feel like this? I have a great setup but want to try something different. I'm even thinking of some LaScala II's and ditching the 7's. Am I going nuts lol?

  7. The SB13 is truly a beast considering how small it really is. One more would be more than enough for my 1900 cu ft room. Now when I move into another house down the road and have a dedicated room then I will more than likely venture into the so called big boy subs.

Thx ultra???? Man you guys got it all wrong. Cinema or bust! The thx and rf-7ii are NOTHING compared to cinema stuff.

I agree the cinema stuff is the direction to go but to say the 7's are nothing compared to the pro line. The 7's will hold their own and then some. Why you dissing on my speakers? :P
never heard them side by side only go off what ref head said. Night and day was what was told to me. So "nothing" means night and day.
I can see where ref would say that because he replaced his RC64 with a 904 for center duties. I have heard three 7's now in Daves system and they will give the 904's a good run. Having that extra 7 in the middle compared to a 64 is night and day.
64 no doubt about it. But ref said even for music in 2.1 night and day. But hey doesn't really matter so not gonna talk about it anymore on this thread. :)

Not saying the 7's are better than the cinema line because they aren't and as far as specs they never will be. My point is it's not NIGHT and DAY difference after hearing three 7's up front. I use to think that after hearing refs system too but now that I've heard Daves I don't think they are that far off. This is just my opinion ofc.

  11. Maybe after hearing daves dual 18's you'll be coming to the dark side chad

I really hope I'm impressed but after round one I'm skeptical. Concrete floors are such a bass wrecker. If I ever have to do a room in a basement I will spend the extra money for a sub floor for the tactile vibes.

  12. I also have the isolation feet from SVS. Guess what? They are still in the box they came in. I haven't tried them and probably wont for fear of taking some of the tactile going on from being on a suspended floor. I really don't have any rattles going on either. In case your wondering why I don't use them it's because they were given to me from SVS along with a t-shirt at no charge for letting them feature my system in one of their blogs on SVS website. Those are some great photos of the SB2000 and have considered purchasing one for nearfield but decided I would like another SB13 instead hopefully early next year.
