Hi folks
Just another quick update -
As its been previously posted about the custom crossover build I have decided to make one small but expensive change on the capacitors
I have decided to change over the Sonicap capacitors (white) and replace them with Jentzen Superior Z caps
In this crossover build design , the Sonicaps feed the mid and tweeter.
So in effect their about the most critical caps in the whole xover.
This is the size difference of the two prior to fitting
And this after

Full Range, did you notice that the reflection of the roof in the water has more detail than the actual roof. Cool.
It does look cool
I would say that I stopped at least 200 feet from the building and was fortunate to be going past just at the right time of day for great light

Great build - I have often contemplated a similar build
I would like to read about your listening test impressions please and did you work off an available schematic ?

I would also like to see a Jubilee added to that lineup

Go all the way and update all that your budget will allow
And I would also recommend that you do some basic maintenance now

Here you go - have a look at this thread first ( it's more than a La Scala bass bin thread ) and if you have any questions just askThis is my first post, though I've been lurking for a while. I'm start to build a pair of La Sacala clones. I'm using the Elliptitrac 400 horn and Eliptitrac for the skwawker and tweeter along with the La Scala bass bins using plans that were included in another post here. I have a question the bass bin plans, so if this isn't the appropriate place for the question, let me know. The question is regarding the dimensions, particularly using 3/4 plywood. It appears that if 3/4 material is used throughout, the horn narrows from 3" wide to 2.75" at the 1st turn (where it turns to towards the front). Am I seeing that correctly? And if so, so if impact the response? I'm sorry if this seems like a beginner question.

Hello fellow members. I am looking forward to build a horn in wood with K-402's profile. A clone in wood. Are there any plans or does anyone know of its modified tractrix profile. It is not possible for me to see or hear one in person where I live so I need some help from you people
I was thinking about this subject all week
And I don't believe there are any real plans available
Then I thought about an Eliptrac version of the K402
Don't think Dave would do it but if he did I would buy a pair
Come on Dave how about it

Good eye. I also love found patterns. I look for them everywhere when I have my camera with me. The moment you create an edge around a pattern, you have an abstraction that expands it's possible meaning. Do you have others?A couple of light installations on a cruise ship
I have taken a few
Here are some more

The first time I heard the Motengator was in '79 when we had them set up on a flatbed semi trailer for the Klipsch Harvest Festival as a stage on the West Patrol Road outside Old Washington. I need to scan some slides for the pics.
I found a cracker of a thread when searching for the Motengator -

I am blessed to have my highly tweaked La Scalas
They just make me happy listening to them every time I play music, and that's just about every day
However I have been known to say that I would only swap for a pair Jubilee's
But the K - 402 horn suggestions above are giving me ideas

Led Zeppelin do the best cover on the Stairway to Heaven intro as its not really there song
It was originally penned by Taurus

If they're going to end up in a garage, I'd bondo the imperfections, run a 1/4" roundover on all the edges, duratex the outsides and spray all 3 horns white similar to what I did on this sub.
That is way cooool
And a great suggestion with a photo to get a handle to back up your message

Bruce is correct there is one brace in the centre and the others at top & bottom are wood strips for the grill
Very nice indeed - did you make the braces yourself -you have 6 braces on the cab - 2 bottom - 2middle-2 top - plus thicker walls on the sides and back - I would have thought that 2 braces were sufficient -And this is how my La Scalas are braced but they also have double thickness side and back wallsimage.jpg
are these scala 2 or scala bins - that would mean you have at minimum 1.5 inches on the side and rear - how have the braces helped overall not including the bottom bass port -
The extra thickness has helped immensely
To your other question - All the cabinets are professionally built to Klipsch plans ( they are not factory made ) and I am the second owner
The bottom bass bin takes the bass range to below 30 htz when used with the Crites 15" cast driver to my ears
Anyway you can read about some of the build here - https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/108425-la-scala-bass-reflex-mod/

A Crossover Design on Single Exposed Board
in Technical/Restorations
Posted
I have made several observations after a break in period between the two capacitor types
I have had two good listening sessions since the Jantzen capacitor change
However about 40 hours of music has gone through the system to settle in the new capasitors
Fortunately the crossovers are fitted with attenuation in the mid range and tweeter section so I can tweak the db output to suit my room acoustics ect
So on to a description of my listening experience
Finally attenuation set on
- Tweet on -5 db
- Midrange - 11 db ( it sounds nice from 9 db to 12 db )
These atenuator settings have just the right and pleasing mix I like best for the room the system is set up in, but I change them to suit the material I am playing
Bass - Apart from the defined sound that we can hear - The bass presentation is fast and defined and also fuller longer notes at the same time, Bass also acts like a vibrating wave machine, the sound waves just bore into the body , furniture and walls ect
Mid Range - This section has had the biggest perceptible change
The soundstage is more expanded and I explain it in this way -
Notes start sharply and finish when the sound wave energy is depleted - drums, triangles , guitar strings, violin, piano, horns, breaking glass sounds ect - the notes just hang there if they are in the recording
Tweeter - Top end at first was not as clinical as before but as the caps have settled in the top end is now very sharp and subtly more musical kinda fuller but very sharp at the same time ( hard to find a word of explanation for it )
If one could see the sound waves you could describe them as hugging the listener
That's al I have in my report as I have written it as I was listening and describing my impressions for you as I listen in real time
