  1. Happy Veterans Day to all the vets. I'm not a vet either but deeply grateful. My son-in-law did 2 tours in Iraq and is currently stationed in Germany as a Staff Seargent.

The Weather Witch was right ... we got about 3 inches of snow last night. Much more in the mountains and foothills. Should be a good ski season at this rate. Our area is supposed to be back up in the 50s or 60s. by Saturday.

    Try to check back .....later.....

  2. I wasn't even familiar with her stuff, but Better Half was and she picked up tickets to see her at Red Rocks this past summer. Frankly, I was impressed, at least by today's 'standards'. Good show, nice voice, first rate band. Superstar quality? No ... but I'd pick up a cd and enjoy it, depending on the cuts.

    Agree with Marty.

  3. Happy Tuesday gang. Starting out as a pretty day which is supposed to go to hell later with snow, etc. I think Mark's Weather Drama Queen got a transfer to Colorado. We'll see.

JL ... they shouldn't take pictures of that poor man. Probably just a shy person who tries to not be noticed and hopes no one attacks him with a garden shears.

Top agenda item is spraying by pest control guy so it's probably a good to just sit down and play some music.

    Tuesday cheers.

  4. Beware of the USB versions of the Project Debut tables since the built-in phono stage in the older models was not very reliable and could not be by-passed without modifying the table. It also reduces flexibility since it prevented one from using an outboard phono stage or even the one on your preamp, even if the built-in held up. (Mine did not).

Things may have improved with the Carbon, but I'd ask a lot of questions before purchasing. Best of luck.

  5. Hey guys ... a bit slow checking in, but then again there ain't much to report! Will tune in to the Broncos game in a while and make a sausage mixed grill for my lady tonight plus stream a movie. Beautiful day in Colorado.

Joe ... our experience with the English Springer Spaniel Rescue was quite different. A guy did come check out our home but after that it was 300 bucks which included all of his shots, neutering and grooming. And ...they brought the dog to us from central Kansas. So ... keep a lookin'. At least some of the rescues are ok.

    Happy Sunday.

  6. Mornin' guys and Happy Saturday. This will be the first Saturday in while that I don't have major yardwork/clean up to do except maybe a little mulching. Our yard is not huge but has many beds with tons of great perennials, all of which need cutting back in the fall. Major PITA but worth it in spring and summer.

Mark ... the 'landscapping' is a riot. Would love to see the reaction to that in PC Denver. (Note ...we only got PC in the last decade or so with population growth from other parts of the country).

    Cheers folks. Enjoy the day.

  7. Another vote for Oppo. I have a 103 in our HT and it's excellent, both in terms of SQ and and overall quality. Bought it new. Also picked up a used Oppo 95 for separate 2 ch system based on reviews and comments about SQ. It is excellent (although admittedly underutilized) and the overall quality is far better than the lemon Marantz cdp I returned after it proved defective right out of the box.

  8. Dave, sad to hear about your pooch. We lost our little Shih Tzu a little over a year ago and I still miss her a lot. The silver lining was that it allowed us to find Baxter through the Springer Spaniel rescue organization and give a homeless guy a home. Take care.

  9. Happy Friday guys and Happy B-Day, Carl. Sounds like you had fun.

Chilly day and waiting on a tree trimmer to show up. Our mountains have snow piling up and ski season is underway, if anyone is planning on a fall/winter vacation.

    Have a great day everyone.

  10. Chuck....it would be fun to go to Luther's place just to admire the "toys" :)   That guy is incredible!

Thanks Steve.....I'll take pictures of the album haul when she gets back.  Oh and the B&O gear as well.

Good idea Carl.....I would hate to break up that rack of gear.  Can't make out the initials on the speakers.  JBL?

Agreed. Also anxious to see pics of your B&O gear. I bought a B&O TT in the early 80's and had it for many years. Really nice unit. The only issue with them today may be cartridge availability, at least according to one of our local stereo shops. I can't vouch for that, but you might want to check it out.

  11. Good grief ...there's a lot to catch up on since yesterday ...

We got a taste of winter with a dusting of snow preceeded by rain. Shirt sleeves yesterday and coats today. Not even going over 50 degrees today.

Interesting discussion of 'OC'. Different world than mine and I'm good with that!

Wardsweb ... looks like a perfect excuse to shop for a new toy. I've never run equipment so hard that it just died so I had to find other reasons to replace it, like moving it to Better Half's art studio as a 'gift' in her system. Making such a gift, of course, forced me to buy a new Parasound separates for my system.

    Cheers, guys.

  12. Mornin' guys. Interesting topics

Animal sacrifices?? Good god. Apparently they don't work. Disgusting, eh?

JL ...that's a great looking toy. If I were a lot younger, the prospect of getting a bike like that would likely tempt me into riding. Cool stuff.

Chuck ... nice work with Toby. Your attention will make him a better citizen in his new home, hopefully forever. Must be a little bittersweet, though. :(

Have a great Wednesday, all. Gonna go tackle a little tree trimming before the weather goes south on us.

  13. Fjd, so good that you're on the right side of the grass and suckin' air!! We live in a relatively 'young' metro area and I can't believe the sheer numbers of rude, selfish and inconsiderate drivers, mostly under-30 or 35. And ...unlike the dark ages when I grew up .... many are female.

Interesting comments on the Yellow Pages. There was a time most of us couldn't get by without 'em, and it really wasn't that long ago. Killed off by the net. I believe all the former Baby Bells (which are mostly owned by AT&T) have sold off their Yellow Page operations to smaller operators. Guess there's still a profit margin if run by smaller player.

    See ya soon............

  14. Happy Tuesday all. Another pretty fall day in our neck of the woods but the weather folks say possible rain/snow mix tomorrow. We'll see. Sticking one's head out the window produces a more accurate forecast much of the time.

We were sick of the usual TV crap last night so we located an old John Wayne movie "Fort Apache." Great old flick. Gonna seek out more of those.

    Have a great day.

  15. Hey guys. Checking in way late. Had fun yesterday after yard clean up. Did a couple mesquite grilled ribeyes and Sun nite football. Watched our underdog Broncos kill the Pack.

Ceptoman ... you are spot on about Peyton. I like his ads, too!

    Royals fans ... congrats.

    Cheers to all.............

  16. Happy Nov. 1 guys. We had a great Halloween with our 2 yr old granddaughter and the kids. Trick or treated our immediate neighborhood and came home to a big pot of chili and some cornbread. What a kick!! Good tunes too. We did have a fair number of tick or treaters and got rid of most of the candy we bought. Need to get the rest of it out of the house!!

Will probably do  a little bbq tonight and watch our underdog (!) Broncos.

    Have a great Sunday.

  17. You're getting good advice here. I had a mismatched HT system for a few years. Initially purchased KLF 30's just for audio and later added a center and surrounds on the cheap. Later on I spotted a CL ad for KLF 10's and a C7 center for about half the normal used price and jumped on it. You never know when a good deal will pop up that allows you to complete a well matched system.

  18. Happy Halloween weekend guys. Busy day for this old guy. Making chili ... or at least shopping the inredients ... today and going to an annual costume dance tonight. We have our grandaughter and parents tomorrow. We have a cool spell with some rain so at least I won't be tempted to work outside today. Snow in the mountains.
