  1. Focal makes a fine speaker. There's a higher end stereo shop in Denver which carries them. I had a chance to listen to them on a slow afternoon a few months back. If I wasn't familiar with Klipsch Heritage (and/or had room for more speakers) I might be tempted. The big question might be overall satisfaction in the long term with non-horn loaded speakers. Pretty sure I'd get tired of the more passive presentation other speakers give. I'd have to have the room and finances to support both if I was going to experiment. Let us know what you decide to do and how it's working out.

  2. They are just too darn big and prominent. She did comment how movies are not quite the same without them. Our house is small and we don't listen to music all that much anymore. I was probably more dramatic than I needed to be. If I really pressed she would acquiesce but she is the one who is in the house all the time. I'm just gone working all the time.

    wayoutback,

I think you've got good instincts in your decision. There are some things more important than speakers.

In our house there is no man cave or space that is just 'mine.' When you really share space with another person consensus is important.

Having 'my way' is nearly not as important as having my wife's respect.

Daddy Dee hit the nail on the head, I think. I was once confronted with the question "Would you rather be happy or be right?" Most domestic battles are just not worth fighting. You could put a pretty nice HT together with Heresys, a small sub and reasonably sized center if you wish. Best of luck and, perhaps most of all, peace!! Chuck

  3. Spare ribs (St. Louis cut) are probably the easier to smoke because of the higher fat content but also seem to take a little longer. I smoke with indirect heat low and slow using hickory on an oversized Weber. Finish 'em off on a separate pit with direct heat and sauce for 15 minutes or less. Baste with apple juice in a spray bottle throughout. I cooked baby backs for years and they are great too. We now prefer the spares.

  4. As I recall, the Legend Series was limited to the KLF's. I bought the KLF-30's in the late 90's and they are part of my HT today (along with KLF-10's in the rear and a C-7 center). Don't think any other models were included in the Legend line.

  5. When we upgraded all the HT electronics about 2 years ago, I did use a young guy in the Denver area to help and insure all the connections and settings were right, and to wall-mount the new Samsung. (He has a thriving little business going). I'm not very technical or very patient. On the other hand, and since I do know something about good sound, I researched and handpicked all the new components. The Klipsch speakers remained 'as is' with the addition of a new sub. I'd never let a contractor dictate equipment choices for me, ever.

  6. I'd want to know exactly what condition the cabinets are in and how much time and/or $ it would take to make them acceptable to me. Would also want to know if the crossovers have been upgraded, if all drivers are working properly, etc. The price would make it worth checking them out in person. Best of luck.

  7. Oh, I agree totally with Amy. The topic was to request nominations for 2-4 additional moderators, and I think we've successfully accomplished that task. The other 15 pages was for some light hearted fun, which I think we also accomplished.

A little thread drift is not a bad thing, and usually corrects itself without the formal intervention of mods, as members are usually self-policing.. I want mods for when it gets personal i.e. the word "you" gets tossed around a lot with some name calling, or if there is profanity. If mods jumped in everytime the topic wasn't 100% on topic, that would be a little too much for me. You really do need a little controversy for things to stay interesting.

We're now waiting for Chad to come up with his poll, so the denizens here can vote on who they would favor for a peer moderator, which we also knew would take a week or so.

Klipsch, Inc. could have simply chosen who they wanted, and not asked anybody. But by including the members in the selection process, they may have gotten a few names they might not have originally thought of, and it just about guarantees that us members will feel good that Klipsch values our opinions.

    Well done, Klipsch Inc.

    Suck Up!!

And very well done, if I do say so!!

  8. I recommend checking out Bose. Their theatre in a box is unmatched. With that bose name you can never doubt that your getting a quality product. I would lean towards at least the acoustimas 10, but the lifestyles are GREAT if you can flip the coin. Once you go Bose, you wont even consider another product.

Bose Motto - Music to grind your teeth to. Seriously, start out with the best speaker and best amplification you can afford and continue to upgrade both when opportunities present themselves. I started out in 1981 with a lightly used pair of Heresys and later moved up the chain to the extent my wallet would permit. Best of luck and keep us posted. Chuck
