After getting our big system back on line knew something had to change. The Lascalla's were lacking deep bass the highs were lacking. Bored the throats of the K-400's added new drivers, built a pair of Bill Fitzmaurice Table Tubas could not be happier with the results. This system is bi-amped through electronic crossover and resides in open finished cellar with heat vents cut in every room. The sound at a comfortable level for both floors is amazing we love the deep base as it gently massages the floors the highs are crisp and clean.

I have a Hafler power amp as well maybe I will play around with amps one of these days,it is hard to imagine it sounding any better. A sound engineer friend is stopping by one of these days he wants to listen to some music certain he will have something to say.

The Tuba's are done and wired the LaScalla'a as well and sitting on top of the Tuba's. The LaScalla's are now crossed for just the mids and highs fed by a Peavey 125wpc the Tuba's are fed with SoundCraftsman 250wpc. The room is 24x32 concrete floor open beam ceiling. This setup played in the 80 to 90 db. range will change bodily function. So far everybody has walked away in total amazement.
The LaScalla's with Modified K400's sound so much better not having to contend with sub base duties.

I don't have any rooms big enough to benefit from using a bigger THT, in fact the plan is to eventually build a 18" wide Lab 15 loaded to accompany my pair of La Scala's. Either way is really overkill for a small to medium sized room but a little over the top is something we all crave i think.
Could not agree more, my reason for choosing BFM subs was bases soley on seat of the pants and how they tickled the ear hairs. Our Lascalla's will be assisted in the bowels of sub-base by a pair of 22" Table Tuba's. Overkill is so easily controlled.

Just for the sake of some mids and highs wired in the modified K400's. Played with an electronic crossover a little now really anxious to get the finish on the subs and wire up the stacks.
We have been without this room for near 7 yrs really missed using this equipment. The wife enjoys hearing it again the whole house comes alive while exercising the voice coils.

Fired up our new 21" Table Tuba's with 10" drivers yesterday for the first time,once the LaScalla's are back together will stack them and see about dialing them in. It is amazing how good these sub horns sound,effortless deep solid bass.

We have two road cases full of 8 tracks and even still have our very first high dollar tape player in a wooden case from the early 70's.

Our LaScalla's will be augmented with a pair of 20" wide BFM Table Tuba's fitted 10" drivers.

Aside from the airtight issue is driving screws into the 1/2" ply end grain would make me very uneasy. Besides that if the Loctite PL were used initially doubt you would ever get the speaker apart without damage.
Gearing up for to build a pair of Table Tuba's the speaker access hole will be covered with grill cloth.

You got that right, picked up the wood for the jigs. First have to get my LaScalla knockoffs back together adding all the correct ramps deflector and motor boards at the same time opening up the doghouse.

[i just finished a project that was exactly what you're proposing to do HERE In my case, I built them mirror images of each other as opposed to identical.
Mine will also be mirror imaged. Found the Baltic Birch locally it is sitting near the saw also the Loctite adhesive. Will order the woofers and speaker accessories this week.

The large tree was a pine we wanted all the pines gone anyway and now they are.
We also lost a beautiful major Oak tree out back a few years ago, it went down between a new garage and a flowering crab tree. Luckily it only peeled 3 feet of singles off the roof from the ridge to eaves but the flowering crab had one side ripped off. That alone was bad enough but the Oak also had the wifes swing she always loved and is now gone.
The good from it all is the back yard is more open and we added to the garden space.

Finally decided what sub I want to help out the LaScalla's after previewing one of BFM subs in a huge field yesterday afternoon. The band I listened to was using a Titan 24 I believe. It was truly awe inspiring to think that small box built out of 1/2" plywood could produce such tight solid bass. With permission stepped over to the cab was even more impressed. Will be building a pair of Table Tuba's 20" wide powered with a couple of 10" Dayton woofers.

We actually have a new antennae rotator still in the box we got after being hit by lightening 30+ years ago. Never dared to put it up because having your home hit by lightening is something you do not want repeated. I'll bet the wall plates like this one are in the box also. We lost a lot of things all those years ago including one very large tree.
Honestly have never had one problem with the 1/4" plugs they get pulled cleaned (with DeoxIT G5 tuner cleaner) regularly and also kept tight. Very hard to justify changing over, not to mention all the custom made cables.

Thirty five years ago while restoring our new fixer upper home hardwired one room with two channel our living room with 5 channel including subwoofer with similar wall plates but used 1/4" jacks. All still there and being used.

Getting ready to build the boxes to open up the dog houses for more breathing room. Hopefully it will satisfy that need for deeper cleaner bass. Modified the K-400's larger PRV Audio drivers bored the throats of the horns.

Having adequate space never stopped us from having the speakers we wanted money was always our barrier. Because of that started building speakers 40 yrs ago. Getting set up for two more sets one set to house new horns the other to improve bass response.
You can bet if money were not an issue the room were not be the barrier.

We are old schoolers tried and true. Many years ago when giving the living room a complete facelift hard wired in all the speaker wiring with 1/4" jacks everywhere. At first it was amazing having that surround sound the wife did not care for it at all I knew the novelty would not last,so we removed the rear and center speakers left the sub. It has been that way ever since.

You will also find as the crowd starts getting more comfortable the volume will need attention to cover the background noise. Keep in mind your amps reserve you could start clipping the signal before your hear it,

Funny my first instinct was how cool,but in reality I would never want to piss off the neighbors except for one home have all been here near 40 yrs. Now thinking of our system downstairs one of those wooden signs would be a great fit even tough the days of making the ears bleed volume only happens in very short bursts.

Still have not made the decision on the sub horn yet,very close with only two left to choose from. In the meantime picked up a Klipsch K400 horn with K55V driver it sounds great but it is a 20+yr. old design. Was tempted to pick up one more K400 but before I do hope to listen to a 2" driven horn for comparison.

Been following several threads trying to get a feel for what would be a better choice than the K400 horn K55v driver. I reamed out the bore of the K400 to match the bore of the driver. Sure would like to be able to hear a 2" horn before making any moves.

We have a pair of Bill Fitzmaurice Table Tuba's doing the sub base chores the LaScalla's turned sideways sitting on top electronically crossed over doing the mid work. The K-400's are in separate cabs sitting on top of the LaScalla's. The K-400's throats were bored to fit new PRV D290 Drivers truly an amazing difference.
