  1. Is that picture from the one that made the road trip?

it actually is not. the black one made the road trip.

Got pictures? Wouldn't happen to look like this one, eh? https://community.kl...with-this-k55m/

no its nothing like that. on sunday night of my party, there were some kids running around. i suspect they squirted some water in them? i set it in the sun, went out for lunch, and when i reinstalled the black la scala sounds amazing! i will post a picture of its crossover in a bit.

my thoughts on la scala vs rf7ii, rf7ii beats the la scala with music, or really most anywhere when a lot of different frequencies are playing at the same time. it just seems to handle busy sounds much better than the la scala. the bass output by far exceeds the scalas too. but with dialog, and movie playback the scalas really shine! that single scala really out did both the rf7s during the short bit of a movie i watched.

sadly the other ones will need quite a bit of work before they sound as good as the black one.

  2. So, as many of yall know I am trying to build a theater with a la scala trio up front. I got a pair of 1992, and a single industrial which I am unsure of the year, but I would say 2000 present. I was unhappy with the sound of the 1992 because of crap sound in my opinion. Granted I did not hear them with lossless or what not. Now that they are in my livingroom I have listened to them and started looking at each individual speaker. the 3 la scalas will be called light, dark, and black.

    light tweeter is unreadable resistance

light squaker is at 10.1 ohms

light sub is at 3.9 ohms

    dark tweeter is unreadable

dark squaker is at 10.3 ohms

dark sub is at 3.9 ohms

black tweeter is at 6.3 ohms

black squaker is at 10.2 ohms

black sub is at 3.9 ohms.

the unreadable tweets have very very low sound output. the light sub has a huge crack going through the sub, the voicecoil also rubs on the magnet. the black squaker is very very quiet. once I unscrewed it, I saw some liquid on the outside of the diaphragm. it has been drained and is drying. I believe that it will function normally once this is corrected.

who in the heck made this speaker?! this does not look like klipsch at all!

    post-58456-0-22920000-1409934325_thumb.j

here is the view after I tore into it! I already ordered some k-77s to replace this junk!

both of the wood finish la scalas have al-3 crossovers. they look like crap! I mean they function, but it is clear they have not been treated as well as I would have treated them over the years.

    post-58456-0-63440000-1409934569_thumb.j

    crossover al-3

as far as the sub, do yall recommend replacing it, or reconing it?

    post-58456-0-41160000-1409934640_thumb.j

this one is rubbing and cracked!

I will try and get some picture later of the industrial la scalas crossover. it has a k77 tweeter instead of whatever junk is in the 1992s.

thanks for reading this, and giving whatever advice you have!

  3. In the 50's Mercedes once showed the "ruggedness" of their roof-construction by placing more than 20 people on the roof of a bus.... Found the picture in one of our original workshop-manuals.

Not to mention the crash-tests with various models strapped to a rocket and crashed against a concrete wall.

After having to haul several cars out of the ditch further down the test-site [powerfull rockets..] , they attached a chain to the car so they wouldn't have to drive that far to examine the remains and drag it out of the ditch. :D

So a single La Scala is no problem for a Merc !

heading home this morning after work i catch a rock on my windshield and bust it pretty good! 539 dollars for a new one. anyone know of a cheap place to get a new windshield?

That's awesome but wouldn't renting a van or SUV have been easier?

Where's the fun in that?  Now, when he finds a pair of MWM's for sale......

Exactly, I know how that feels Coytee, I won't do that again, I thought for sure we were going to get pulled over for having mwm's strapped to a jeep from Athens GA to South Mississippi

mpg over the 400 miles to pick them up, 27.8 mpg over the 400 miles back home, 22.3
    .

Doubt there is anything in the Mercedes owners manual about strapping speakers to the roof, :o  that's probably a first ?    :emotion-21:

im a cheapie... this was much more cost effective than renting something to pick it up. update on the truck though, i bought a new hose to fix the leak. then when i get back home, i bust a fitting to my heatercore and nearly overheat my truck! so i ordered new fittings. :( it doesnt seem like i will ever get to finish my theater room!

  5. Now that's the spirit !

Nicely thought out and constructed, what some folks do to get a good speaker home.... good thing you didn't have to make a emergency-stop though..... :D

    Enjoy your new asset. B)

yeah, i had her strapped down pretty hard! took an hour or so total to make.

mpg over the 400 miles to pick them up, 27.8

mpg over the 400 miles back home, 22.3

i did notice a huge difference! lots and lots of wind resistance. klipsch should have made these more aerodynamic!

i had some moving felt laying around. so i streched it over my roof and sprayed it with water. stuck the hose under it with water running.

my old lady can get this thin square tubing as scrap from where she works. it holds lawn mowers so i get a couple every now and then for the tubing. it comes in handy as you will see

    post-58456-0-35280000-1409720108_thumb.j

cut a few of these out with a grinder.

    post-58456-0-90320000-1409720154_thumb.j

i attached the mount that i made with the mill, and then attached the tube to it via a 1/4 20 hex head bolt.

as you can see, i have to build up one side of this to keep the bar off of the top of my car.

so i drilled a hole in a solid block of metal to use as a spacer.

  8. so i got a really good deal on a single la scala that will complete my behind screen setup for my upcoming theater. heres how it turned out as my truck has a massive power steering leak!

here are some metal peices that i cut out. after milling down the thickness just a hair.

im cutting the slot on one side to fit the roof rack

  9. slow update tonight. i got my 703 board in. wow its a lot softer than i thought. i will make a frame around each one, and canvas it to give me nice sharp edges. once i get to this (my truck sprung a leak on the power steering pump) i will take some pics and what not. here is my ideas for the acoustic panels.

    1. build a frame around them

    2. dye the canvas black (opposed to painting to keep from making a hard acoustically reflective shell over them)

    3. wrap the canvas around the frame and insert the board in behind it

    4. put a hanger on them similar to a picture frame cord

    5. have my friend paint klipsch, samsung, and harman kardon logos on 3 of them. then have him paint the hobit lascala tshirt theme on the 4th, the rf7ii sketch on the 5th.

    6. im lost on the 6th. give me ideas?

  10. I love having a nice comfy reclining couch, and would have never thought of changing it. But that was when we spent all are time in that room (tv games and movies). But now we only use it for movies so I have been thinking of getting some really nice large reclining movie theater chairs. But imo if your going to use the room for everything day and night. I would stay with the sofa.

yeah. I hate that I only have seating for 2 or 3. I only have one couch, and the orientation really makes it hard to add any seating. the long way ill have room for 2 rows. I really like the way youthmans back row is built up some. im pretty tall at 6'7" so the poor guys sitting behind me wouldn't otherwise be able to see.

on a side note, I did end up winning the la scala for 250! now I gotta drive 300 miles to pick it up. :(
