  1. Are you set on 16:9 or have you considered 2.35:1? I did a lot of research and decided for my needs, a CIH (Constant Image Height) using 2.35:1 worked best for my setup since my room is primarily used for movies. I LOVE having a cinescope screen. It really sets it apart from what my friends experience on a 16:9 setup on their TV's.

I just posted about that, I think I will go with 16:9 and then mask it off for 2.35:1. best of both worlds, and no regrets.

Also depends on whether you will have one row or two rows of seating. With 1 row, you can easily go with 150" screen.

I want/need 2 rows. going to use the existing couch for the first row, then build up just like you have for the second row. eventually I may or may not replace the first with cinema style seating. my couch is veeerrryy comfortable!

Use the Projector Pro at projector central to plug in that BenQ projector and play with it to see what throw distance you will need and such.

after checking out the benq I realized it didn't even have hdmi. think I will opt for a different one. I like the zoom feature you were talking about. right now, I am focusing on prepping the room. also the massive bbq I am having sunday evening.

  2. 11 dollars a piece! Crap that's a good deal! Lol, I know all about the hk mic and what not. I was wanting to know more about sketchup. I'll have to check it out when I am back on a computer. What size screen would you go with if you had my room? The wall area I will build will be 12×8 so I don't have the luxury of a 10 foot ceiling. If I remember right I believe I have exactly 141 inches from side to side. I want as large of a viewing area that I can get. Gonna put my amps/subs/receiver/ and all below the screen, and la scalas behind of course. So I don't really need much room to the sides. Think I found a single la scala for 250! Or 2 for 600 closer as well.

  3. after i get back from hamptons in the morning, i think i will lay out how much i have to sand off, then hopefully friday morning ill slap the rest of it together! they have got to be out of the garage by sunday.

  4. yeah, i will focus on the windows, paint, and acoustic panels first. i ordered 6 703 panels along with canvas that my friend uses to paint on last night. i am gonna dye the canvas black, then have him paint some of them up for me.

while i am waiting on that, i will start painting this monday. gotta find a color i like, and move all my existing equipment away from the walls. i was looking at some of the recessed lighting, and dimmers to go with the harmony one remote i ordered last night as well. i cant quite pull the trigger on lighting yet.

where did yall get the 703 board from? 6 ended up costing me 105 dollars.

  5. Wishing you luck with all your decisions. Mine is 11 x 20 I run an Optoma projector. The color is awesome on it but there are a few things that could be better on it. $720 delivered to my door I can't complain. Way to many suggestions and Ideas to mull through for me. I like the way the one guy hid his speakers behind the screen but I can't imagine a more worse idea when it comes to getting the best sound from them. It's like stacking them in a closet and expecting great sound. Not trying to be a debbie downer, Just that placement is pretty crucial to great sound. I drywalled over my window on the end of the room then painted the wall with flat white ceiling paint and called it good. I'm sure you'll come up with what suits you best though.

they have what is called acoustic transparent screens. it is bascially perforated to let sound through.

  6. Also if your going 3 LS. I would pass on the rs62ii and get some pro speakers. The rs62ii would work wonderfully. But something like the kpt1201 would cost less and be even better. Bigger more effortless. Plus it would match your fronts better im sure.

how would they sound with music? this will be my new livingroom, so music, gaming, and movies will all be played here.

  7. Great project! Thanks for updating - you have my wheels spinning too!

to be honest, the guy at lowes did a great job cutting it up for me. friendly guy, and did a good job. i will only have to sand one or two surfaces to get the top to fit on right.

  8. think he's filming now.

    hahah! that is funny!

actually work load increased at the jobsite, had a few storms come through that blew down 8 trees at my parents house in the past couple of weeks. so i have been hitting up the chainsaw quite a lot.

so i had an idea, make a template out of plexiglass and use a flush cut router bit to cut my holes. id get the plexiglass at work, and naturally id cnc myself a perfect 16.75 inch hole in it! well that worked out perfect, aside from the router i borrowed was complete junk! the base kept lowering itself, getting the bearing off of the plexiglass can causing me to cut slightly into it. i managed, and if anyone else needs a perfect circle i will send the template to you if you wish. after of course i build 2 more 18s!

here is the template, the router cut that drifted down is minimal as i caught it as it happened.

it slightly messed up, but you cant really tell! woohoo!

and finally my double pane front side. they are glued in now, but i havent taken a pic of them yet. after i cut the inital hole with the template, i used the mdf as my next templates. that way the holes matched perfectly!

i am hoping to finish these up friday, as i need space in the garage for a party i am throwing. everyone is invited if you are close!!

i am seriously considering having these rhino lined, or linex'ed so i dont have to deal with the mess, and will have a uniformed finish.

  9. Deep blue is a nice  color and will help with the light coming into the room.  If you want a big screen use the long wall for the speaker and screen.  Some of the other guys can help with screen type and projectors.

i cant sit far enough away from it then. false wall will take up at least 2.5 feet of room. then i can only sit 8 to 10 feet away from a 10 foot screen. i think that would be uncomfortable.

  10. http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Screens-125-Inch-Projector/dp/B000Q87LM6/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1409034382&sr=1-6&keywords=16%3A9+motorized+screen

what do you all think about this? what is a good guideline with brightness, vs screen amp? what color should i paint the room? i dont want it to look gaudy so id like more of a neutral color that works well with keeping the brightness down.

  11. the only room i can use for this measures 12 by 20 feet, it has a closet in the back corner. i want to tint the windows to remove some of the sunlight, then i will cover with blackout curtains. (most likely tack them to the wall under the existing curtains) id like to put the screen on the wall with the single window. (i will probably double tint this glass and make sure no light gets through maybe even add some insulation to keep the heat down as well) i really like youthmans seating arrangment so i figured i would copy it for the most part.

i want to maximize the screen size so i was thinking about 120 inches? i like the idea of a roll up screen and was wondering what was wrong with them as no one seems to use them from what i have seen. what software have you all been using to make plans from??

excuse the mess, i am currently rebuilding my soon to be bedroom setup as we speak.

  12. so i know this is better off suited in the avsforum, while there are more opinions and what not there. i wanted to start here as this is a much smaller forum and i can take the opinions and recomendations slower and research them individually without feeling overwhelmed with responses. i am very new to the home theater area and what not. i know i want an AT screen. thinking about using my dual lascalas for left and right, and adding a third for the center as they are still sitting in the garage just chilling. i would like to be 4k ready, but that seems very expensive compared to my 4k tv. i got my samsung 65 4k 9000 series 4k tv for just a little over 2000 bucks, and i was thinking a projector would be cheaper, but boy was i wrong!! i want to build a false wall, make the screen as large as i can, trio lascalas, most likely 2 or 4 18 si d4s, and i am thinking about using 3 inuke 6000dsp amps for all this. i would like to stick with another harman avr3700, ps3, htpc, rs62ii X4, i have a friend who paints, so i will most likely get him to make me some sort of acoustic panels that double as artwork. pictures will be posted of the room.
