    Poll Question

Not bad mix, although I agree with Boa12 that the LFE could have been a little better. For a Legendary action movie I expected a lot more. Maybe too high of expectation. All in all Not the best sound I've heard, but it was enjoyable!
  2. How about these (don't think some have been mentioned): MJ to the MAX -(UN-F*CKING-REAL) the IMAX experience on dvd. If you zoom... there is NO distortion. A MUST for the true Jordan fan. Matrix -of course. The Jackal - the scene where he kills the maker of the tripod and then blows up the car. (that precision craftsmanship) Dolby DIgital Demo Disc - cool trailers Swordfish - Opening claymore mine spin scene Deep Blue Sea - The helicoppter scene including the glass breaking. U571 - of course Three Kings - C4 Nerf football shooting on back of Hummer. Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents
  3. As I was making a post asking how to buy new grills for my Heresy II's, I came up with an idea I may want to take on. I was going to get black grills to match the grills of my KLF C7. Thats when I thought why make the Heresy's change. They were there first, they shouldn't just let the C7 come in and start changing things. Why doesn't the C7 go cane with the Heresy's. How cool would that be! How hard would that be? I'm thinkin I could just get another grill for a C7 and tear off the black and order some cane. Would it stretch over the C7 alright? Just let me know what you guys think!
  4. may be too late but if they don't cost too much check out Digital Designs Subwoofers. They are a rather new company I believe. I heard them this summer. UNREAL. 4 15's took the world record for db drag racing at 174.6db!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And ONE 15 hit 170. Granted these are measured in a car with 4,400 - 16,000 watts running them but that is still LOUD!!!!!! I seen one guy in Fond du Lac Wisconsin shatter his reat window with one 12. DD
  5. I remember reading on this BB about putting something under a downward firing sub to get more output when it sits on carpeting. Does the carpeting affect the subs output that much. If it does how about putting a 20 inch by 20 inch slab of marble or something under it. Would it make that much difference?
  6. when I was refering to a two channel amp, I was suggesting possible using two subs like the SVS ultra. And that configuration is pretty much unmatched in that price range (ok Velodyne is pretty good). Just an idea if you want to go that way. Using one sub and a mono block would also be good. I have nothing but good things to say about RF through my experiences. I still have my original RF power 6.5's and my RF punch 5.25's in my front door pannels along with an RF tweet, all powered by a RF punch 60ix amp. I still love them. ALthough a while back I believe I heard that they are now manufactured in the US and their amps aren't built as soild anymore, but that is just what I had heard, I have not experienced any of it. And although I am not familiar off hand with the HX2 subs, I'm sure they pound. Do some research on the model. Check for excursion, power handling, sensitivity, etc. As far as the box building go here http://www.blaupunktusa.com/install/install_index.html this is a great program for building and tuning certain box types etc. All you would need is the Thiel Small parameters that should come along with the sub. I mess with this program all of the time and try to find realistic sub and box combinations that would give me the highest SPL and like 20hz. It passes the time. I suppose you really don't need all of that power, but most car subs can handle it. This message has been edited by tgourlie on 01-15-2002 at 06:24 PM
  7. just some spec on that W7: Actually 13.7 inches in diameter 1000W power handling 3.5 inch excursion peak to peak (now that is moving some air) I also remember a funny looking speaker(not actually) from Phoenix Gold. I think it was called the Cyclone. It was a like a bucket with two fins inside that rotated with the help of a motor structure. It looked nothing like a conventional speaker. It's hard to describe here, if you are interested try searching for it. It is no longer in production though. But it claimed massive excursion.
  8. I was a car audio nut way before home audio came into play. I think most top end car subs would hang with or surpass the home subs in home use. Car subs are built much much more durable due to the fact they have to deal with a more harsh envronment (sun, hot, old extremes). And most of the time hanlde way more power. Anyways if you are looking to do this check into the Phoenix Gold Xmax 15 or the JL15W7. Use 1 inch MDF for enclosure. Tune port around 30 - 33 hz PVC with flared endcaps works well. Find a high powered two channel amp that will handle 4 ohms, or 2 ohms if possible (5ooW per channel) Granted the enclosures may be large and extremely heavy, but so are the Klipschorns. But F the footprint... if you want to have bass in your back pocket you'll make room. I haven't heard the SVS Ultras, but I'd bet that the Xmax 15 or the 15W7 would step on that small footprint like a t-rex in jurassic park.
  9. One of my Heresy's recently died. (story in another post) Anyways, since I will be taking the woofer out and whatnot, I figure Klipsch is going ZSeries so are my Heresy's. I plan on using the 3 different types of ZSeries Monster Cable wire for each driver. Just thought I'd see what you guys think.
  10. Thanks TheEAR and djk! I will try this and I hope all goes well. I have heard of GOOP. I used it for a couple of jobs around the house. Is there any particular one you suggest? I suppose one that is somewhat flexible, but if there is a particular type of GOOP to use let me know. Once again thanks!
  11. One of my Heresy II's decided to fault. The silver wire running from the basket to the cone broke off this morning. It broke right next to the cone so it is very difficult to fix. I tried soddering it back together, it worked for a while then the sodder broke off. I'm thinking if I sodder it so it works, and then put this black stuff (see photo, stuff right below the dust cap holding the thin wire against the cone) on and around it to hold it, it may work. Any help/suggestions. Does anyone know what this black stuff is and where I can find some? Thanks
  12. here is a picture of the black stuff I speak of. It's just below the dust cap. what is it? where can I find it?
  13. I noticed int he first post you stated THX. If you want to go with a THX "type" setup (I say type because I don't believe these Klipsch speakers are THX) I would go with the dipoles. I myself have the direct type and absolutely love them. But If I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong cause I don't claim to know eveything) THX requires dipoles for surrounds. Just dropping some info cause I seen the THX in the first statement.
  14. Oh NO!!!! Today I was thumping away with my Heresy's and my KSW15 and I thought it sounded a little bright. After turning it down I discovered the the woofer in the Heresy II was not functioning. I about lost it. Many four letter words were involved. After I settled down I took out the woofer and realized what had happened. The positive feed (after the speaker wire hookup on the basket) broke off from the woofer. I hope you understand what I mean. The thin silver wire from basket to paper woofer broke reight at the point where it goes throught the woofer. Now I have just enough (barely) to sodder the two back together, but the first times I tried it broke again. This is because of the movement, the sodder is not flexible. Do you think that I could sodder and then put super glue or other type of glue on the sodder to hold it and prevent it from breaking? But I don't want to damage the paper woofer or discolor. I am thinking maybe about that black stuff they use under the dust caps of woofers. I have no idea where to get such an item nor do I know what it is called. Please please help. Anyones input or help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Thank You!!! Fellow Klipsch fan-4-life
  15. These are not feet or spikes, but rather a box you put on the rear of your speaker to prevent cabinet vibrations. check out these links: http://www.sonic.net/soundscape/teknason.htm Yet after a little more research I think that these may be intended for low build quality speakers. In some test these did really well, while in test with B&W and Klipsch they didn't fair as well.
  16. I am in the market for a new reciever / possibly pre amp / amp. Looking for a list price of $500 to $1000. Hoping to find a deal on the internet. Well I had come across the Denon and the Onkyo THX recievers. I know both are very good, but I guess I am just looking for some info that a sales person might not be able to tell me. Just experience type stuff I guess. Whatever I do I would like to go THX though. Thanks
  17. Does anybody have any experience witht the Tekna Sonic Vibration Absorbers. They are suppose to improve bass. for $60 each I'm a little curious.
  18. OK heres the deal. I have two Heresy II's for my fronts right now, I need a center !!!BAD!!! I would love to get another heresy for the center but the magnets would kill my tv. Even if I put bucking magnets on it I just cannot see a Heresy sitting on my TV. I was thinking of maybe the KLF-C7 in the oak woodgrain(if it would match my heresys). I know these are not an exact match, is their that much difference? Also if I would get the KLF-C7 I was thinking about buying the KLF 10-20-30 for the fronts and moving the heresys to the rear. But the $$$ could become a problem for me. Any help?!?!?!?!
  19. I'll try to get a deal!!!!
  20. WOW you have got quite the system HornEd!!!! That has got to be LOUD!!! And clean SO this is what I'm think. I'll put a pair of 10's or 20's up front because I don't think I could get a pair of 30's in my budget. Then a C7 center, and the Heresy II's in rear on Lovan stands with the 15 for LFE. What do ya think?
  21. OK the 10's lower than the 20's, which in turn are lower than the 30's. So witch has the loudest, hard hitting, bass. I have the KSW 15 so I can go pretty damn low with that. So all I really need now is the punch of a drum.
  22. RWMIN.... WOW you have an excellent setup!! I can't believe you have 10's as rears. That really shows how good that system must rock. I would be using Heresy II's as rears with the legend fronts. I sound like a perfect prospect for the 30's I love that bass. It aint enough until it's breathing for me. TG
  23. I'm really looking for that PUNCH of the Legend sereis. Because my local dealer has no KLF 30's in stock I can't hear them. I heared the 20's And I can really feel the punch. My question is How much more punch would I get with the dual 12 the 30's provide. And is the bass sound the same on the 10's as on the 20's? Dealer was out of the 10's also. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to owning the Legend Series! TG
  24. How are these KG-4's? How are there low end respose? They look awesome!!!!! one of the coolest looking Klipsch speaker I think. With that passive radiator in the back. What does that actually do?
  25. I bet that Vel sub pounds pretty hard huh? I was also looking at that sub. Great system though. Heck a lot of people would love to have your second system let alone your better one. Great work. TG
